What's your reasoning? Can't just predict things without providing reasoning. :p

okay, can anyone link me to an image of Monomi with mushrooms on her head? I've been searching on google forever to find the image for a reference but I can't for the life of me find one.

edit: nevermind I finally just found one. Didn't occur to me to search for a sprite list cause I didn't think of character portraits as sprites...

End of Ep 4

Best case of DR2, best class ending,
best complex murder plot so far in the series imo, loved the funhouse and all its fuckery including the octagon and the dead room.
Tanaka went out like a G. The standoff between him and Nekomaru was dope plus i loved Tanaka's ending speech, i really need to find his voice actor, he really made the character for me.

SWEDISH PERFECTION
Just finished this game, started playing it pretty much after finishing the first one. My gut feeling: great game, but not as good as the first one. Had too many characters I just found annoying and/or boring (like Gundham, Kazuichi, Mikan, Monomi) compared to 1. And the story and setting didn't quite have the same impact as the first game. Also that they tried to evolve the trial system with all the minigames by adding more of everything, but I just think it makes it worse.

Just finished case 5. I was absolutely loving this game right up until this point, which was a lot better than my sort of tepid enjoyment of Danganronpa 1.
Then they jettison the mastermind rule without blinking an eye in order to kill Chiaki, and claim that there are literally more Monokumas than their are atoms on the earth.
The second part is just normal roll my eyes stupidity that I could absolutely tolerate, but the first part is game ruiningly dumb. This gaping rift of the in-universe logic turns the flow of the game into a train wreck for me, and every single small problem from here on out is going to pile up on that and slowly drive me bonkers.

Why, Spike Chunsoft? Why?

Monokuma really doesn't give a shit this time around.

Monokuma really doesn't give a shit this time around.

I would not at all put cheating past Monokuma. In fact I'd be fine with it.
But for none of the characters to object, for even Chiaki herself, ever the voice of reason, to not bring it up, is just painful.

I think there's a reason for that one. Ish.

Gosh I hope so. But I don't have great faith. Unless you mean the reasoning is that
Chiaki is the one who herself threw the firebomb. Cuz if that's the reasoning, then I have to ask. What good is the mastermind rule exactly, if it's voided when the mastermind gets someone to do their dirty work?

Cuz that's the only reasoning that my googles turned up, and that definitely doesn't satisfy me.

Regardless, onwards to victory! ...maybe.

Mastermind
rule was always vague and wishywashy. Looking back on how it was used, the scenarios were generally unclear and didn't back up whatever explanation was being used for it heavily.

Basically, don't worry about it. Even the older example is questionable in what it actually means on closer observation.

You've forgotten how the mastermind rule works. If a person assists another person in killing someone, then the culprit is ultimately the person who used that person to murder someone. "Assist" and "Used" are the keyword here. Nagito was working alone. He didn't cooperate with Chiaki to kill himself. You can even refer back to the second chapter to see this in play. It hinged on whether Peko was acting at Fuyuhiko's behest or not. She wasn't, hence why she was executed.

In Chapter 5, Nagito may have set it up so that the traitor would kill him, but it was Chiaki throwing the bottle that ultimately killed him. Nagito wouldn't have died if she hadn't thrown it. Ergo, she is his killer. Monokuma explicitly states that accidental murders still make you the blackened.

Ch5+ spoilers

I still think that, even with that distinction, things are a bit hazy. One could make a similar argument that Nekomaru's death was suicide because despite Gundham attacking him and tying him up in a way that would lead to his death, it was still Nekomaru's act of squirming that caused him to fall to his death, no?

End game spoilers

Either way it doesn't matter a great deal

Finally found a copy of the first Danganronpa during a trip to the Netherlands!

I will try to get the second one as well, maybe in the airport.

It's not a suicide if you unwillingly fall to your death as a result of squirming. Gundam took steps to ensure that Nekomaru would die, hence he's the culprit. If I were to the same to a random person, the police would deem it a murder, right? It's the same deal here, but even simpler since Monokuma only operates on a single binary. If you killed someone you killed someone (regardless of whether you knew or not, regardless if it was accidental) you killed them. Nagito took steps to ensure that he would die but... before he could commit "suicide" he was killed by Chiaki. It's an incontrovertible fact that Chiaki killed Nagito. And she isn't protected by the mastermind clause because she didn't willingly assist in that crime.

I beat the game yesterday. The ending draaaaaags. Best things I can say about it over the first title is that the music is much better and the cases are in general much better mysteries than the first title, which had some epically dumb arguments in their early cases. I still stand by my initial impression that they had no idea how to make a sequel to DR1 and probably have even less of an idea where to go from there.

Just started playing, really excited to play this. Liking all of the designs so far

Immediately recognized Byakuya haha. Also the BGM when they get to the island is incredible. (or rather, I guess it's the Usami BGM)

edit: prologue done

I'm confused as hell on a lot of things. It's easy to think about the first game for explanations but I'll be surprised if it's that simple (especially if they expect the players to have played it first), either way I'm expecting lots of despair.

This is dangerous. There's not really anyone I dislike from the cast so far. Extremely dangerous.

This line though

I was waiting for things to deviate from the first game but I didn't expect the memory thing right away. I guess a traitor's possible, even a hardcore bad-guy traitor, but we'll see. It's hard to get my mind out of the first game since they're so similar so far.

Wait... did you take a picture with a camera? Why not just take a Vita screenshot?
Eh a phone photo instantly uploads anyway, it's too trivial of an action to think about logically

edit

"this party is obviously all going to crash this is all going to crash this is all-" *blackout* *byakuya gone* I KNEW IT

I KNEW IT!!!!!

things are really going to hell now, holy crap

Nice jazz for the investigation music. I'm into it

I guess Nagito has trouble seeing red on white? Just guessing from that moment in the storage room. Wouldn't surprise me, with how often they use that in murder plots. Well I doubt it matters for this chapter

Done with ch1

Gotta say I love Nagito. Dude's great. I really hope he's endgame. Aside from him I also love Ibuki, Akane, Nekomaru and Chiaki. When Chiaki told Nagito to shut up I cracked up. I'm totally okay with Teruteru biting it, relatively safe first death.
I did more or less knew what happened from the investigation but I had no clue who did it, so the twists got me pretty good. When Mikan said "did Nagito really do it?" I freaked out.

By the way the minigames are all terrible this time. I don't like the new Hangman at all, there's more than one name to something so a few letters would help narrow it down. Both Hangmans I obviously knew what the answer was but I just didn't know how to say it. Constructing the sentence at the end of PTA is also ridiculous, there's no way to derive multiple meanings from those 4 words, it's just a grammar question (I'm salty because it made me die when I missed). And there's no point in only giving me 5 pieces at a time for the comic.
I'll hang in there though, it's not intolerable.

My in-game time stands at almost 10 hours, kinda crazy for 1 chapter. I'm hoping to finish the game before school starts in 2 weeks

...Wow. That was out of nowhere.

There was a bunch building up to it in retrospect, but I was not ready for this after all the swimsuits. The fact it's Mahiru changes my perspective on pretty much all the events in the chapter so far.

And I'll just say this here, but Nagito is giving me really strong Kumagawa vibes. I really like that guy.

I was seconds away from triple posting before you saved me by the way, just wrote the post, good timing

You guys BETTER not do anything to Chiaki. She's been getting the spotlight a bit too often lately (before and during the investigation) and it's terrifying. I'll seriously cry. Ibuki better stay safe too, those two are my biggest concerns right now.

Wait. The game was based on their school life? Does that mean a girl killed yakuza-dude's sister and he killed that girl? I'm pretty sure yakuza dude mentioned his sister before... I'm not ready for such a big case, man...

Y'know what before I go with Nagito to question the girls, I'll put down some predictions
Girl A is Mikan
Girl B is Hiyoko (lol this is the most obvious one)
Girl C is... by process of elimination, Ibuki
Girl D is Mahiru (i mean, photos)
Girl E is... wait, huh
Girl killed is yakuza's sister

I'm getting lost with all the letters already, this sounds solid enough right now though. Straightforward reaction would be that yakuza and Mahiru found out about all this and he killed her for revenge

edit:

Haha, well dang. I was all happy I was doing good, then they go through all of it during the investigation. So it's not even worth the trial, huh...

The twists...

I love how the game literally said "you must have figured who the killer is, right?" and made me choose her immediately, at the same second that I first thought about her as the killer for the entire chapter. Manipulate me, manipulate me more, I need to be manipulated.
I've really started to like her more this chapter too, this sucks. Chiaki and Ibuki going strong though.

Also Nagito please chill. He's totally reminding me of Kumagawa.

I'll just throw this out there before I get any hints for/against this, I've been thinking Nagito or Usami's crew are related to the survivors of the first game, in the case of Nagito he wouldn't remember it. Not that crazy of a thought but it's all I have so far

edit

AAAAAAHAAKLHSFKLJHSDFGKLH DANG IT

It was night and I was going in to check on Nagito one last time when Ibuki was creepily standing outside his room. Nearly had a heart attack. I visibly jumped. Geez.

Now I'm scared to check up on him. Despair Ibuki is so creepy, man...

I forgot to ask about this back when I played the game but *endgame spoilers*

Did we even get an explanation on why Nagito has the same VA as Makoto? I recognized him instantly and thought he was Makoto for the whole game until the real Makoto showed up. I mean, I guess he still can be Makoto considering they're just avatars but yeah, did I miss anything? Maybe AE explains that?

He's still at chapter 2 , he hasn't sunk DEEP ENOUGH in despair yet.

This was part of the design of the game..this was a thing they did on purpose for the JPN version and they asked for the same thing for localisation.
There is a reason for that but nobody knows yet.

PS: your guess is wrong, that was proven by the epilogue of the game.

Also, their names sounded super similar but now that I checked which letters get left out I just realized that Komaeda Nagito is an anagram of Naegi Makoto da (I'm/it's Naegi Makoto). That's pretty funny.

He's also wearing the same hoodie that Makoto wore under his jacket in DR1. It's all intentional, but we don't know why

Pretty sure the whole point is to establish false expectations for Nagito early on. You don't really need any more motivation.

@ R_thanatos, chapter 3!

I'm loving Chiaki and Nagito more and more as we go on, they're definitely my favorites. Mikan's cool too and Fuyuhiko post-eyepatch is really growing on me, he's much much better now.

Investigation went pretty smoothly, as in I'm somewhat ahead of the game even a bit into the trial, at least I think the entire hospital team is safe, reassuring since I really like them.
Minigames are still really bad, especially that Hangman nonsense. I'm pretty much guaranteed to lose a third of my health there.

It really seemed like they were going for some dumb
Kingdom Hearts like swerve. Then for a bit it seemed like they were going to do MGS2!

Well, I don't think we know that for sure, it's just assumed.
I doubt they're doing all of this just to fuck with the players.

Isn't the voice actor for that character Megumi Ogata? [Ed. note: Ogata is best known for playing protagonist Shinji Ikari in Neon Genesis Evangelion.]

KK: Yes. So you know, the character -- I don't know if it's necessarily an anagram in English, but if you move the characters [in "Nagito Komaeda"] around, it's "Naegi Makoto da." [Ed. note: meaning "It's Makoto Naegi," who is the protagonist of the original game.]

The main reason was to get players questioning, "Wait a minute! Is this the same guy wearing different clothes?" kinda thing. In order to that, Megumi Ogata was the go-to person for that. That's why we chose her.

So, it was planned. About three months before the game came out in Japan, we announced the voice actors and stuff like that. People were speculating on the web. They were like, "Oh, this is an anagram. It's the same guy!" And in the development room we were all laughing because, "Of course. That's what we wanted to do to you guys!"
