Sequels that will never happen for games that ended on cliffhangers

So recently a friend of mine beat Bulletstorm and thought it was a blast to play, he then asked me when the sequel was coming out because of the ridiculous cliffhanger it had. I had the honor of telling him there wasn't going to be one.

This had me thinking if there were other games that were very clearly meant to continue but for some reason or another didn't happen, so Gaf what's the worst blue balls a game has given you in terms of one ending on a cliffy that will never get resolved?

If you say Half Life 2 you're a LOSER!

I mean... there's a chance, but it's very slim right now.

Such a badass ending.

EDIT: It's Darksiders, damn it!

Rage, I think.

I liked the game, but it just kinda ended without any warning. Likelihood of a sequel is minimal.

Chrono Cross kind of ends with a cliffhanger
(Though no apparent threats remain, it is implied that Schala is still alive and traveling through many timelines, including our own, to look for Serge). Schala became a time/dimensional wanderer.

Highly doubt we will ever see a new Chrono game.

EDIT: Also Mega Man Legends 3 and Breath of Fire IV.

Too Human comes to mind. It seemed like the story was only kicking off when the first game ended. The downside of planning a trilogy straight out of the gate I guess :(

Vanquish. Ending has closure, but it did leave a massive tease that eluded to a bigger plot down the road.

Prince of Persia 2008 has a massive cliffhanger.

Granted, it got [partially] addressed with DLC but come on.. I want a fucking sequel, Ubi! DO IIIIT.

Beyond Good and Evil.

I know a sequel is supposed to be in the works, but how long has it been since it was mentioned?

Advent Rising had a really interesting cliffhanger.

This is the one that I was going to say. Wasn't it a planned trilogy?

At any rate, I knew it had a cliffhanger ending but I never actually beat it. My roommate and I had a blast laughing at its incredible glitching until we attempted to speak to an NPC and it randomly ran off into the sunset. We thought that was a fitting end to our time with Advent Rising so we left it at that.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn spends basically the entire game hyping up a sequel that looks like it is never going to happen.

I find it funny that this isn't really even asked anymore because of what Ubisoft has become nowadays, I remember this being in the same league as Half life 3 and Last Guardian.

The Bionic Commando sequel in 2009 introduced a character whose motivations was never elaborated upon in the main game but was the basis for a post-credits sequel tease that hinted at the resurrection of The Albatross.

Then the sequel bombed, Grin went defunct etc.

And I really liked that game too. All it's flaws were things that could have been easily addressed in the sequel but they never got the chance. Sigh.

I'm still very salty about megaman legends 3, it would be fine if we never got the glimmer of hope, but the fact that it was canned and then blamed on the fans really stings;

This. DLC had an even bigger cliffhanger really. It's a shame we'll never get to explore more of that world.

Should have been the first post. A sequel to this game would would be DoA even if it did come to pass. No one remembers or cares at this point.
