Consider it accepted. How dare you bring Tango into this.
I challenge you to a duel.
Yeah, this thread if nothing else is showing that you basically can't impress everybody. I didn't realize until just now that people dislike Naughty Dog's name, for example. I'm certainly biased having grown up on their games, but it never occurred to me.
CD Projekt - Perfect name for a mostly PC (re-)publisher at the time and place of creation. It's a business project which involves selling CD-ROMs. Duh.
How do you make any sensible studio name that starts with CD Projekt? I don't really think you can. "RED" was possibly the shortest thing that wasn't horrible.
what is pretentious about having a name that is supposed to be pleasing to the ear?Right, but a) I highly disagree with the premise and b) it's super pretentious.
Cherrypop games...just ewww. .

Turn 10. Like what is that? a kid turning 10 ?
Even better: SEGA started out as a US company!
Definitely this one. So bad I refuse to type it out.CD Projekt RED
CD Projekt was the first company in Poland to sell CD-ROMs after the fall of the Berlin Wall, before that literally every game was pirated. RED probably refers to Poland.

Great read
They're not called it any more, but I hated the name Artificial Mind & Movement, or rather it's abbreviation 'A2M' for short. Whoever came up with that obviously was not familiar with certain parts of the Internet.
I think they're called Behaviour Interactive now. I wonder if this factored into their decision at all.
The thing with Naughty Dog is that they've come a hell of a long way from (and have basically zero attachment to) the couple of dudes nerding out in a garage.
Like, when I know that they guys who put a secret code into their game so that you could see their pixel art of nekkid girls also called themselves "Naughty Dog" (and with a mascot that looked like a worse-than-90s-leering-Chester-Cheetah-knockoff), I can't give the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't an in-joke about them being a bunch of horny dudes.
I think its more of the fact that the Naughty Dog of today is a very different company than old Naughty Dog and the name just doesn't hold up anymore to what they are serving now.
what is pretentious about having a name that is supposed to be pleasing to the ear?
If GAF was to launch a game company, what would its name be?
Everything? It's fine if you don't mind how pretentious it is, but it can't be argued that it's not pretentious.
Gaming Age Games.
By saying "everything" you're saying nothing at all. And of course it can be argued that it's not pretentious, that's what I am doing right here right now. Saying "it can't be argued" strikes me as somebody who is convinced they are right without actually backing it up. Having a name that is regarded as pleasant sounding is pretentious how exactly? I can't argue with you when you haven't even given any reasons for it's pretentiousness
Pretentious literally means "attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed." Calling yourself something that you're not simply because you know it is regarded as important or beautiful by others is de facto pretentiousness. It cannot be argued otherwise.
You know saying "it can't be argued otherwise" only makes you look really stubborn to a fault, don't you?
They aren't calling themselves anything, or showing greater importance. Having a name that is pleasant to the ear and might catch people's attentions doesn't imply that they think everything they makes is pleasing to the senses.
I'm pretty stubborn about facts. There's no shame in that.
The Zoë Mode name change press release is a personal favourite of mine.I once worked for Kuju Brighton, which became... Zoë Mode
there were no facts but ok man . Keep on getting needlessly offended at all these "facts"
I'm not a man and I'm not offended. I'm irritated that you think the dictionary definition is not a fact, but it doesn't offend me. You're welcome to like Cellar Door's name; clearly some people do. But you're wrong if you don't think that it's a ploy to bank on the prestige those words carry, which is pretentious behavior.
