To be fair, though, in Portrait, Charlotte is a really strong character that doesn't take shit from Jonathan. It's also implied that she played a part in the final destruction of Dracula in 1999.

I thought they implied that she was of the Belnades line, aka badass witch with mad skills. What's the 1999 hint?

This is how a modern Castlevania should look imo. Amazing.
Yeah I love how it looks. It's coming to every major console too

Also, in regards to the rumored Shanoa-like main character: I hope that they don't reuse the stamina system from Order of Ecclesia. It made the game feel so artificial to me. The flow of combat constantly got interrupted as you waited for your stamina to fill back up.

Mind you, I don't mind stamina systems if the gameplay is based around them (i.e. Dark Souls does a solid job of that), but if it's just slapped onto a game just to make it a little different from the predecessors, it cheapens the gameplay imo. That stamina bar just didn't fit into the main gameplay of Igavanias (or 2D Castlevania in general).

Yeah, IGA mentioned somewhere that Charlotte is related to the Belnades clan. And in the game's dialogue it is said that Charlotte would be a "weapon in the final fight against Dracula". She would be an elderly lady of 70+ years then, but given the fact she's a powerful sorceress, I'm sure she could get around.

This just makes me really wish for a 1999 game where you'd have coop elements in which one player can play young Julius, one plays an elderly Charlotte, one Alucard and one that Hakuraba priest, and the 4 of them would finally defeat Drac together.

don't forget the best female protagonist,
axe armor

The Axe Armor is actually genderless, PoR just treats it as a female so you can't get infinitely looped by the boss in the first pyramid (Astarte) charming you over and over. And it has Jonathan's grunts.

"She runs from herself. What does she run toward?"

"A new, vital heart, pulsing with the old blood."

"How can you protect the ones you love when the thing that threatens them is inside you?"

These three quotes seem linked. I hope She is in relation to the main character, inflicted by the curse

There's also quotes about alchemy and a curse.
I believe that the main character might be in the vain of CV2 Simon and try to prevent some sort of curse killing her.

I forgot her, I am an idiot haha

Oh yeah, I forgot that piece of art. Is that really official?

This is basically gonna be a spiritual sequel to Order of Ecclesia isn't it? That game was very much Simon's Quest 2, albeit with a map screen.
Imagine if they go full out with a sidescrolling overworld and you finally reach a castle and it's all..big and stuff. Shit if the description was "Like Order of Ecclesia without an overworld level select and much bigger" that'd be all I need to read

Well, its from a official wallpaper of Portrait :p

For the DS games they did a lot of silly drawings though :p "Official" in a sense I guess.

.

The stamina bar really was nothing, after an early point you can destry most enemies without waiting. its not a system that has to return because it was redundant, but was harmless.

Yeah it's kind of like they took Charlotte's magic meter and then said "Eh, fuck it!"

Can you explain this Reddit thing? I don't think anybody here was posting anything from there. :p

A guy came out a while back saying the name of the game, and he described the main character (Shanoa ripoff) and a Alucard look-alike while also saying it'd be revealed on May 11. Trying to find the post again. But everything that's appeared on swordorwhip kind of lines up with it.

Anyone else remember that Reddit dude? Could also be /v.

female axe armor is canon to me dammit

I also didn't really mind the stamina bar as much as chaining attacks in OoE (which I guess kinda ties in to stamina bar depletion with weapon attacks). I'd rather basic attacks do more damage and have longer recovery like they do in near every other Castlevania.

Game looks interesting 1:1 pixel mapped in game, but I'm not sure how well it translates to full 1080.

flying_witch_by_aloooo81-d8sr88p.gif

The art in that game looks nice, but I really dislike the use of hard pixels that are don't hide the fact they are pixels. The rain looks too "rectangular" and pixel-ly. It's like when you see someone make a game like this and they shoot a gun and the bullet is basically just one pixel square flying across the screen. The best pixel art games don't try to throw the fact they are all made of pixels in your face. It's a mixture of hard pixels and smooth details.

The only thing I didn't care for in some of IGA's DS CVs were the instances when he used pre-rendered-like backgrounds. You see that in the rooms where you fight Balore in DoS and Keremet in PoR.

Since I like traversing the map fast, shield dashing was made incredibly annoying. :p Didn't even the regular backdash consume stamina? It's been a while since I played OoE.

I think these are new:

???: You are ready to choose the weapon. Will you be ready to wield it when the time comes?

???:"...for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword..."

???: It will not work. Perhaps the same could be said of all tactics.

Edit: Ninja'd!

Curious to see who is involved in this project. It would be something else if members of DF like Anna etc worked on the game or like DF runs the kickstarter and brought together the old team members. Gotta wonder why Koji is basically doing a "tour" in the West right now while his campaign awaits.

New quotes, as predicted. Seems they arrive at this time every day.

Should only be one more set in any case.

Because she made Sonia Belmont not exist so he could do Lamment of Innocence.

There's also an interview which, as I recall, explained that Igarashi removed her and Legends from the timeline because "only men could be vampire hunters", or something along those lines. It doesn't explain why she was one of the characters meant to be in CastleVania: Resurrection but I digress.

The depth of the environments are much more noticeable once you see shadows on the environments and in the dark regions with the lighting effects

30 layers sounds a lot less impressive when in practice its just like two layers that are duplicated 15 times each lol.

Maybe you should reserve your judgment until you experience the final game. Personally I find these gifs incredible and exactly what I have always dreamed 16 bit art could be, and it sounds to me like you've already decided not to like Rain World's direction. But if you're really not impressed, maybe the art style just isn't for you. Which is cool, but that's independent from its quality.

Rain World is quality.

EDIT: I read Alo's post without any context of his actual enthusiasm of the game and am wrong. Ignore me forever until I die.

I am not the sort to be a downer.

What if the teaser website mini-game was secretly a poll in disguise.

Those that vote whip not realizing they are asking for classic staged based Castlevania, like CV3. SC4. Bloodlines, or DX, and those that pick Sword are asking for Metroidvania style game, like SOTN, CoM, etc. I say this because most of the CV games in which you wield a sword are generally the Metroidvania titles, and the ones where you mainly use a Whip are the staged based games, There ARE exceptions of course (Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, and Portrait of Ruin), but still...just something wonder.

Probably not, but it's just me thinking what other purpose is behind the two weapons outside of some fun diversion while we wait for the announcement tomorrow.

I don't think such a big decision would be hidden behind a hidden poll, just me theorycrafting.

They dont, just checked powerful attacks drop a little but the magic bar refills so quickly that can be more of a problem on the early levels, but even then its mostly a matter of having a bit of patience :p before long you wont even notice there is an stamina/magic bar

but it was fun doing you own little combo attacks, what was annoying is that you have a set of weapon glyphs that have stronger variations and those make the others useless.

Alright, all of the new quotes I've seen so far for today:

???: You are ready to choose the weapon. Will you be ready to wield it when the time comes?

???:"...for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword..."

???: It will not work. Perhaps the same could be said of all tactics.

???: It is not what the words are capable of doing. It is what the words are capable of stopping.

???:Do we learn to control our powers, or do we learn to ignore them controlling us?

Uhh..

Rain World continues to just completely amaze me. I love everything about the look. It's so fluid and sharp and just, gah wow.

Okay then.

If you say so I guess.

To be precise, I believe IGA's exact quote was that he didn't believe a "female Vampire Hunter could exist in the 1400s".

Why he thought that much was worth splitting hairs over, among the so many anachronistic things that were in IGA's games alone...yeah, that's just something we'll never know.

Right, I looked it up, it was Magnes and Shield dashing that consumed stamina like crazy. As a speedrunner (who invested time into CV runs as well), it just was really annoying.

Either way, I don't like having to HAVE patience in a game which isn't built around patience. If I wanna be patient, I go play Masters of Orion or some other strategy game. I don't play an action game like Castlevania for waiting, y'know?

Besides, I was always aware of the stamina bar, especially in harder areas and boss fights. I was painfully aware of it in the bonus stage that is like that gauntlet of really annoying rooms with super strong enemies, or against the enormous centaur boss (Eligor?) and Blackmoore.

I feel bad for myself for saying back then, that they made to many 2D castlevania games back during the GBA-DS generation. Nowadays I am craving for a new entry in a great Iga 2d Castlevania game.

Offcourse his game wont be Castlevania, but it will feel like a Castlevania game, especially if Yamane will compose, she will definately use her famous Castlevania trademark in composition.

Just got: "Why do you enter my castle, Malphas the Mystifying? Is it simply fate that connects us?"

Haven't seen it posted here but I may have missed, sorry if it's already been noted!
