They did a Smash tournament last year and that was really nice to watch even if they were all amateurs.
The Smash Invitational had a bunch of pro Melee, Brawl, and Project M players. The final was between one of the best Brawl players (and current Smash 4 Apex champion) and the best Jigglypuff player in Melee.

Oh man, this Gif is gonna get a lot of mileage.

So the digital event is happening at the same time as Square Enix's event?

Yep, SE did it to themselves though. They pretty clearly scheduled it for the exact same time that Nintendo has done their presentations in the past, so I can't see how they thought Nintendo would move from their time just to accommodate SE.

There's only so many pre-show hours to use that have reasonable international viewing times.

If you ask me, Nintendo and Square-Enix should have, like, talked and Nintendo shouldn't be conflicting with a major third party's conference, but Nintendo gonna Nintendo.

you mean Square gonna Square

this is Nintendo's usual time slot

There was more footage of the Virtual Boy than the Wii U in this video.

Hilarious stuff, though. Good on em.

This has been Nintendo's E3 conference slot for many, many years.

It's not really Nintendo's fault that SE decided to schedule the first conference they've had in many years at the exact same time.

Nintendo has always had that time slot. Tuesday, Usually at 9am. One day after Sony and Microsoft.

Current Nintendo is so weird. They've gone from Blue Ocean strategy to focusing exclusively on a caricature of their core fanbase.
Well the demographic of an E3 hype video boils down the absolute core of their fanbase so in that sense it's on point.

This video didn't work for me at all.

Even if they went for deliberately cheesy, it didn't work.

Not sure what the demographic is that there were trying to hit.
It worked for most of us.

The games demoed at the last two BestBuy E3 demos were the flagship titles of that year: Mario 3D World (plus other games) and Smash for Wii U.
That doesn't mean that Mario Maker is the flagship title. It just means that Nintendo understands that Mario sells. The games they demoed at Best Buy were games that appealed to a large audience and they just happened to be the flagship titles.

Tanner should've convinced Iwata there is a market for F-Zero while he still had a chance

I was half expecting this joke to be in the video.

"We'll make another F-Zero, and it'll be EVEN FASTER!"

"But Tanner, we already have 200cc in Mario Kart"

"FASTER"

Be fair. The 9am Tuesday slot has been Nintendo's go-to time for god knows how long, and arguably Nintendo is bigger than Square Enix. It's more Square Enix trying to horn in that "Nintendo gonna Nintendo"

Edit: Whoops, beaten.

This video feels way too much "we have to repeat 2014" imo.

Yeah, I thought they would add a real press conference, but since it looks like that they have nothing big to show this year its better if they do that next year.

Mario Maker seems to be the flagship game which is very sad....

Everything Nintendo does is reaction gif worthy. I actually did chuckle a few times in this video, the cheese and terrible acting makes these perfect.

Really? We're going to go down this road again? Haven't the last two years of people saying this proven that it's foolish to say it?
