Phil Spencer comments on Silent Hills rumor: 'not true'

What's with the attacks against IGN? They did not start it, they just referenced the youtube video. They said it was very hard to believe, they tried to get comments from both Microsoft and Konami, they offered comparison with other recent IP/studio purchases.

People aren't criticizing IGN because they started a rumor. They're criticizing them because they chose to report on a rumor that was obviously baseless. Any gaming outlet with any self respect would not have given this garbage the time of day.

This was probably the most irresponsible rumor reporting I've seen really, it was just ridiculous.

It's interesting how GAF has handled some recent games/news bits much better than the established press, first the idea of not giving bad games oxygen and now shutting down clearly fake bullshit because it's not helpful to anyone.

Even giving it the time of day is irresponsible, lazy and greedy (dem clicks!). A reputable outfit shouldn't be reporting every rumor that comes across their doorstep.

So, is it Sony or Nintendo that will do it?
I heard Nintendo bought Silent Hill for one trillion dollars. Silent Hills was 160% done anyway so it was a good deal for them. My source is a guy who predicted that there would be another Nintendo system after the Wii so he's pretty credible.

First time I hear about this in my YouTube feed from rooster teeth and machinima, next day its spread even further and all I can do is roll my eyes. Shit doesnt have to be remotely true or have a plausible basis, it just needs to collect and generate traffic. Spreading rumors is just irresponsible point blank.

I knew this was false. Why in the world would Microsoft spend that much money on Silent Hill which probably wouldn't be well received or appreciated on the Xbox One in the first place?

Implying what, that Xbox owners wouldn't enjoy a survival horror game? I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

I'd rather have an apology from Rooster Teeth than IGN. They're not known for their journalism, but they're getting big enough in the gaming media that they need to be held responsible for things they release.

Let's not go that far. Plenty of gaming outlets didn't go near this nonsense rumor.

Duh. Now on to the next rumor, what will it be? Resi Evil 7 is gonna be Xbox One exclusive!?

That was an actual rumor among some(that will not be named) last year.

Honestly, for me the part that made me roll my eyes at the rumor was it being 80% done. In all due respect, I would be surprised if it was more than 20% complete.

I'd like to know who that 'source' was just so someone could kick him/her in the balls. Not because I believed it for even a second(I didn't), but because the emotions surrounding Silent Hills and Konami are at such a level that I really haven't seen in any community in a long while, probably due to how the whole thing has gone down. So putting out such a blatant lie to prey on that emotion is a really lame thing to do, really.

But look, folks: the game is dead. Really, REALLY dead. I wanted it more than most, and I know that technically there is some small chance(after all, the Twin Peaks tv revival rebounded even after Lynch initially left, so miracles CAN happen), but the odds are infentesimal at this point.

Konami sucks, the game is dead, enjoy P.T. Pachinko.

No, Xbox owners would enjoy a good survival horror games, but I honestly think that particular type of game would be better received on PS4 because it seems like Playstation gamers are more into Japanese developed games. I just do not see Microsoft shelling out that type of money for something so unproven on their console, that's all and I woudln't even see Sony or Nintendo doing that either.
