E3 2015 Predictions & Discussion thread

Goddamn that was rough.
If Minecraft 2 goes exclusive, the IP will begin to die. The acquisition of Minecraft was more for Windows 10 & Microsoft as a whole than for Xbox themselves. I believe the plan was to use Minecraft's crossover appeal to market a whole range of Microsoft products. Bought a PC, get a free copy of Minecraft. Free Minecraft with a Surface Tablet. Free Minecraft with Microsoft's smart toilet paper. It's the new Minesweeper, it's on every device imaginable.
When you start locking audiences out of a product, you reduce the user base, and therefore it's crossover appeal. Besides, after paying $2B for the IP and the rights, I doubt they'd want to lose that consistent revenue stream of Minecraft PlayStation buyers to try and get people to purchase their struggling console. Think about how many people are actually going to be swayed by this. Very few people going to pay $400 for a Minecraft machine. More likely than not they'll go somewhere else to play it, like iOS, PC, Android or something similar. Minecraft 2 being only on Xbox One would be a terrible business decision. Even if Phil & Co. tried to do it, I'm sure someone higher up wouldn't let it happen, because the short term benefits wouldn't be worth the long term losses. Don't consider it just from the Xbox perspective, you have to see how those actions work for the long term future of Microsoft.

It is crazy how tempered expectations are this year with no hype threads and no leaks. It is kind of creeping me out. I hope that all of the companies bring the heat this year though, so far the generation has been kind of sterile with Sony leaning very heavily on indies and Microsoft scrapping back mindshare lost from their initial idiocy. I don't know that I will be allowing myself to get hyped even after the conferences though. This generation has been so full of delays, botched launches (TMCC, DC, Unity...) and lackluster new triple A's that I think the wait and see approach is most fitting for any games shown or announced this year. Nintendo is the only big developer that has been consistent in their releases, so hopefully they surprise us. Not to say independently developed games are bad, or less than those made by huge studios, but there is something seriously missing in the industry for me now that the major publishers are essentially franchise factories and the "New Big Thing" isn't there... I guess I'm just depressed at the current state of gaming in general. The PS2 era was the best gaming will probably ever get in terms of out of nowhere games, huge new IP and births/rebirths of franchises. I want the awe back in my life :'(

Yeah, there's no reason to expect GoW to be announced there. Cory seems like he doesn't bullshit around and he's already said that they won't be at E3.

Maybe the indie scene will eventually reach the point where they are the A and AA developers of the gen, so for every pixel art sidescroller we have now, it'll be an obscure survival horror or third person action adventure one day?

This is honestly what I'm hopeful for. Indie studios taking gaming back to what made it a great hobby. I want to be lost in the surreal worlds of the likes of Psychonauts, Otogi, Dark Cloud and countless others. Gaming seems so emo from the big publishers, everything is so me too with their dull color palettes and "real world influences". Nintendo game universes are the best around this gen so far, which is disappointing to me personally.

I am excited for new info on Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 as well. CI Games has been steadily improving...love their shooters for what they are.

Also, a number of those "expected announcements" seem like tales from your ass. Just because we know some games exist, doesn't mean they'll be announced there. God of War 4 is probably too early for an announcement, given that it'll probably be a March 2017 game. Dishonored 2 may be too early as well (and I think there's a rumour that says as much). EA may not want to announce Bioware's New IP just yet, making sure all the Bioware limelight stays on Mass Effect. Same thing goes with Visceral's Star Wars game.
Gametrailers unfortunately won't have standard coverage like previous years. They won't have direct stream links and they won't be able to use any other sources full screen.
That's where YouTube comes in. Geoff Keighley is covering E3 for them this year.

I thought Giant Bomb said they were not streaming the PC thing because it's being organized by another media outlet (PC Gamer). Jeff's reasoning was that it would be no different than them covering an IGN organized thing, which they obviously would never do.
