Tales of Festival 2015?

Announcing it after PS3 release. Lawl.
Doing this makes no sense at all.

Can't they really see the potential of better good sales of Zestiria if it was released on both the PS3 and PS4 in the west at the same time?

No way they didn't know about the fans crying out loud for the new generation version...

Maybe they're hoping to inexplicably catch double-dippers.

If that's their plan for the US version, they should kiss all their goodwill for the series in the west goodbye.

the only thing better good would be the initial sales numbers. Doing ps3 first and announcing ps4 afterwards would do higher numbers in total for sure.

their games are too good to skip them over a bad business move unfortunately :p

Let me put it this way, if they did do this, who wouldn't buy it on PS4 here still? Looking at the Cross gen antics especially with the west who has a heavy preference for current gen platform. I don't think there'd be much protest, especially since the PS3 version performed like hot ass on a technical level. It's a win win for them, abuse NA fans clamoring for a Tales title by only releasing PS3 version, then announce the proper PS4 version a bit after.

I don't think that's true for the audience they want in America.

They're only recently starting to come around to the idea that Tales games should be released internationally. We're sitting on nearly six months of localization time on Zestiria in a world where most games are released worldwide.

If a PS4 announcement comes soon after US gamers had to settle for the PS3 version despite the lack of market sense that move makes, at the very least, I imagine most fair weather fans (which is not a pejorative when it comes to consumers) will wait for a used copy or a sale.

It's just not a smart idea.

I don't think they can afford to put the brand ad risk trying to make people double dip releasing the PS4 game at a later date. I makes much more sense to do what they did with J-Stars VS.

You underestimate domestic Tales Fans. (Or Domestic JRPG fans in general)

Could look at it this way, Atlus did this with Persona 3, when Japan had FES out the date at the same time, and still released FES down the road in the west. Which still performed very well.

Personally I don't see Zestiria selling better if it was released first on the PS3 then they announce a PS4 version and release it later....... It will hurt the sales and those who bought it on PS3 will feel betrayed.

Beside the game will sell very badly if it was released only on the PS3... Basically sent to die.

But if it was released in the west on both consoles it will guarantee a better sales that's for sure.

What worries me that they somehow doesn't understand and get this... Which is something impossible not to see.

But is it being sent to die? How many domestic Tales fans are super excited about Zestiria right now regardless? And what if we were wrong and there's no PC or PS4 version even? There is a very feverish domestic fanbase for Tales.

What wild theories here...

I think there might be reason why Zestiria releases in Fall and not Summer. The localization is done, but I think they need more time for porting...

FES was still for the PS2 when the PS3 was crazy expensive, it had a bunch of new content and an extra expansion pack-ish and for most people who bought both it was still their second Persona game. Zestiria PS4 will likely have very little or no new content two/three years into the new generation, the new game is already announced and the PS3 version's technical shortcomings are bad enough that people would feel burned by the bait and switch. It's really not a good move.

And lets be realistic, this isn't new practice for them.

Tales of Symphonia GC -> Tales of Symphonia PS2
Tales of Vesperia 360 -> Tales of Vesperia PS3

They're not above milking their fans loyalty for all their worth.

There's Graces Wii and Graces f PS3, too. I imagine that one must have stung because I'm pretty sure I remember Graces Wii having some nasty, potentially game breaking bugs in a few places.

They are just trying to give the fans the same experience the Japanese fans get.

They've never done it to their Sony platform fans though.

I don't really think the situations are analogous. Atlus got out in front of it when FES was announced, explained they didn't have the resources to simply switch gears onto FES, and detailed what the differences were so people wouldn't feel like they got a lesser game. Atlus is a small company with limited resources, their explanation made sense and it reached the people it needed to reach. If you were aware of FES, you were aware why it wasn't releasing day-and-date in America.

Is there any Tales fan in the world who doesn't think a PS4 version is coming? It would be way different if Zesteria was that transcendent game with incredible word of mouth that no one could wait on playing. The best case scenario is people double-dip and feel kind of screwed. Middle scenario is they buy one or the other. Worst case if they wait for the PS4 one and then decide they don't care to buy it.

The longer you give people to reconsider a purchase, the more likely they are to do it.

Mind you, I'm amenable to the idea that this could go either way. It just seems sleazy at best.

I agree, even the PAL stuff is done, they've shown the spanish localization of the game in Madrid a few ,months ago and that's rare unless it's finished or close to finished.

They also said they were aiming for sprin/summer and now moved it to autumn. It's clear they have something else on their hands.

It happens when a mainline game releases on a non PS platform. Not the case with Zestiria.

The only truly good way to go here is releasing both versions simultaneously in the West:

.Let those who don't own a PS4 enjoy the game
.Benefit from the PS4's expansion to boost sales
.Let collectionists get both versions (and their CEs lol) if they want to do so

No other outcome would make full sense:

.PS3-only: inability to measure the current state of the Western market accurately. People know about the buzz and a fair share of the fanbase is doubtful as to getting it on release day: sales would hurt.

.PS4-only: people who haven't made the generational leap yet have been counting on playing this on their PS3 since it was announced. Localization would have to be done anyway and the game is done so it should hit PS3 too. (from my perspective, this would be okay too, given the issues the PS3 version seems to have)

.PS3, then PS4: I don't think I need to explain the UGH in this outcome.

If they have intentions of releasing ToZ PS4 only on Western markets, then I understand their silence at the Festival, but they better speak up at E3. After BestBuy listing it, a clip of the game showing on a PS4 commercial in Japan and Steam listing it we know it's not staying on PS3, so just say it already BN.

And so should Zestiria PS4. They would be stupid to just straight port the PS3 version to PS4.

So you think they will release an enhanced port exclusiv in the west?
I totally see that happen! If we are lucky the PS4 version will feature 1080p and 60fps and the PC port maybe some more graphics options.

An enhanced port with extra content releasing in the same year. Sounds like a great way to make sure nobody is going to buy anything you produce ever again. The PS4 version is a means to make a western release viable, not to provide more Tales-goodness for a new audience.

Again, Namco-Bandai. Folks are being way too optimistic about them when they have always done pretty sleazy practices.

I toltaly see that happen!

But the PS3 version should be enchanced as well... and that should be announced for japanese audieces with enough time and that did not happen...

Maybe we'll see an international version of the game with some fixing like ToA, that had some stuff the Japanese version did not. Maybe they're doing just that and making it run on both PS3 and PS4.

No that's why it was strange that they didn't announce it today.

You are probably right, that they will just straight port and do shit job. I don't expect 60fps. Which is why I think the decision is probably stupid.

unless it's a part of the Sony presser I dont see them announcing it at E3, it would get lost in the noise, I expect this week as far more likely than E3

Do shareholders care what the fans think?

Well, we know BN has a 30-minute theatre presentation of an unannounced AAA title "we won't want to miss", so I wouldn't be at all surprised if they just popped a trailer and called it a day. Still, they may show up at Sony's presser, we'll have to wait and see.

Namco has a record of treating Japanese Tales fans like shit and it blew on his face. I don't think they want to risk the international market. Sure, westeners did not get many Tales but they have never pulled the "re-releasing it in better shape for another system" kind of thing on us. I don't think they want to give it a try when their domestic market is fed up with that.

Also, the relase date was pushed on the west by several months and they've shown the game in a very advaced state of localization quite a wile ago. It's only reasonable they're working releasing it on a different way it was released on Japan, probably a port to PS4.

I actually dont think that it is strange that they didnt announced it today. The Tales Festa is event for the Japanese audience and not for us Western plebs. What would be the point to announce a Western PS4/PC port that they wont release in japan.

I could see Sony approaching Namco about including Zesteria in their E3 press conference so that they have more PS-exclusive holiday titles to show off, given the delays of Uncharted and Ratchet.

What major titles come out for PS4 in autumn? Maybe ToZ could indeed fill some gaps.

well I believe some said on GAF that Sony E3 presser was going to have a much bigger Japanese focus this year, don't remember who though
