New Devil's Third Trailer (Itagaki/WiiU, Japan - Aug 4, retail is Amazon exclusive)

Except you're using popular series' that have retained the expected amount of players that you would assume those kinds of series retain.

If 100 people buy a game and 2 are still playing it at the end of a month, how many people do you expect to still be playing a different game at the end of a month when only 10 people buy it initially?

Except that my point is that Splinter Cell for example has sold around the same as this game will probably sell.

And more so, we're talking about a game launched 2 years or 2 years and a half ago vs. a new game after 1 month.

You are way more optimistic about how much Devil's Third is going to sell than I am.

From what we've heard about the sales for Splinter Cell on the Wii U, it would actually be pretty hard for it to sell much worse, provided it gets a general release at retail.

Between the state of the game's graphics and Nintendo cordoning it off to Amazon is Japan, I fully expect it to be the worst selling retail game Nintendo has published in the past couple of years.

?

It's not a dodge. I already told you I think it'll sell worse than whatever Splinter Cell/Black Ops 2 has ended up with. I'm not giving you a concrete number because frankly I don't know what that number is and neither do you. All you've provided is launch number percentiles.

What about that other oft forgotten element of video games-- gameplay

The launch figures are the biggest number possible. Usually the following months are under 10-15% of the launching month especially for games like Splinter Cell. You know very well that 4800 copies sold in the first month means much less than you thought, it would be nice to admit that. But whatever.

Alright. Devil's Third will sell less than 5000 copies in NA in whatever similar timeframe.

I am making that a declarative statement.

If people cared about that, I would still be able to find sessions of Anarchy Reigns.

Really wish they translated his lines so we might be talking about gameplay instead of industry analyst amateur hour

Unfortunately, that game was actually not that fun for a lot of people.

I believe a lot of people are missing the sarcasm/irony in Itagaki's games. It's supposed to look like a 90s action hero flick, how can you take these over the top characters and melon throwing combined with chainsaw swinging seriously.

Devil's Third is a celebration of everything 'wrong' with western pop culture, mixed with a great deal of comic relief and japanese folklore. I love it. It takes balls to deliver a game like this.

Not everyone will be charmed by it. For some, it's purely because of its Wii U exclusivity, for others it's gonna come down to graphics or gameplay (or whatever else).

My preorder remains intact though.

Got no problem with how it looks.

Is there some sort of AA at work in those shots? (looks kinda blurry - FXAA maybe?)

Unless they are "touched" ofcourse.

Those MP maps look fantastic.

The whole game seems to have shaped up quite nicely. The city levels give me some Army of Two vibes, which is always a good thing.

It will be also one of the few games, where I'll dive into the MP from day 1 before finishing the campaign, just to experience the insane carnage right from the beginning.
Hope the player count won't dry up too soon and the game gets at least some decent sales figures. It's great that these kind of games are still being made and especially the fact that it comes out on the Wii U is awesome.

And you can edit them.

how about that shit, how about it

Unfortunately Nintendo has no idea how to market this game.

They don't realize that if the MP has a lot of depth and modes and things to do that should be the focus.

It does suck because if the MP turns out and the base building and game play is solid it would be one of those cult games with a really solid community. As it is I just don't see Nintendo being able to convert people in to playing it.

Pretty much this. It doesn't look like the most technically brilliant game on the system, but it is hardly the worst. The Wii U is never really going to be able to amaze people graphically with games that utilise realistic artstyles as they will never stack up with what people now expect as the norm on PC, PS4 and XBO. The real test for this game will ultimately be how it plays.

Hope remains.

I'm really excited about this game from the "reveal" a year ago, really hope it will have an active online community, even if will be small. But I'm pretty sure there will be one, because all people that will buy DT will be absolutly sure on what they'll spend their money, is not the kind of game that you buy because of the commercials XD

Many screens and artworks are posted here.

Here are those I like.

Seems the protagonist and the major villains all have their own tattoo. Extremely cool idea. I think those gods/Buddhas represent that particular character. Could anyone help research on those tattoos?

Screen shots look nice but I want to see more gameplay footage.

I will put it this way...this game wont make me buy a WiiU tha's for sure...looks absolutly awful to me.

People keep saying things like this. I wish people would stop. If the current library and what we know is coming very soon isn't enough to buy a Wii U one isn't going to buy a system. The library is there and it won't be changing much with one or two more games. Unless they simply don't have the money right now. If that's the case then people should just be honest instead of making it seem like one single game will be the turning point only for that goal post to be moved further.
