I'm unusually unexcited for this rumor.

Before the Steam release, I just remember FFVII being 50% dungeon/slow-ass random battle padding. Upon Steam release, my memory served me well :/

i think even TLG isn't nearly as big as the FF7 Remake
ICO/Shadow of Collosus were great games, but still niche games iirrc for an core audience

FF7 however was the best selling FF Game and 2nd best selling Ps1 Game with over 10 million copies sold. That Game was universaly sucessfull and accepted.

Still to this day the greatest gaming experience iv'e had, My gaming time now isnt like it was way back in 1997, Barely anytime at all to play.

It'd be really great if they went with the Kingdom Hearts style characters and artstyle, over AC. I feel like they're just cartoony enough to still keep the light hearted moments working, while also being a huge step up graphically. But what the hell, I'll take either.
