Final Fantasy 7 Remake Announced (First on PS4)

Some analysts in Japan are speculating that SE in financially healthy shape is really encouraging them to take some risks. Maybe mobile game boom isn't a bad thing after all?

I believe it. With the enormous success of the PS4, FF Record Keeper being a big nostalgia success on mobile (partially cause of nostalgia, partially cause it's good), the huge hype for FFXV, and the success of the HD remasters has shown them that there is a lot of potential for this to succeed. Then with a little help from Sony and some mobile revenue it makes a lot of sense.

Just wow. This is amazing. Hopefully it does exceedingly well and shows SE that they can remake their FFs and make money....

Because I want FF6 remade lol, and FF12 in HD.

You know if it was just FFXII I would have been happy. FFVI I also would have been happy.

FFVII I screamed outloud for 3 full minutes and ran around my apartment like I was 6 years old and it was fucking Christmas.

I wonder if people who are surprised by no Xbone version know about the Final Fantasy Type-0 player base split... wasn't it 80-20 in favor of PS4?

20% is still a significant percentage of the market. In a consolidating AAA industry removing potential customer-bases is the opposite direction third party developers should (and are) taking. Unless it's being funded by a manufacturer of course.

Seems like there will be no Xbone version, just saying it's almost certainly because of a funding deal not because of that split

I've never seen console makers say "First to X Console" and it not mean timed exclusive but coming to the other 2 major platforms later.

Generally when they mean not on the competing console they just say console exclusive. Most of the time they use specific wording.

We'll see though it'd be a big get for Sony if true.

That is true but if Sony is bank rolling this... I doubt SE cares

Nomura has been co-directing KH with Tai Yasue for a while now.

I guess Yasue will just have more work now =P

Although, if KH3D is anything to go by, they're still quite dependent on Nomura for both the story and the gameplay stuff.

Who is Tai Yasue? Is he a newbie or have we seen some prior work from him?.....Still a shame I didnt get my FFXII remaster but Lawd Have Mercy

I still don't and never will see how this is a risk(I know S/E clearly thinks it is otherwise this would of happened a long time ago and not needed Sony help).

It is taking the most popular story from Final Fantasy and re-imagining it with cutting edge graphics.

To me it is much less risky then a new FF that may or may not connect with audiences.

It's like do you reboot Batman or make a new comic book story if you are wanting to reassure investors?

I know this sounds weird but I've felt this coming for about a year now. There were certain signs coming but they were all extremely subtle. A large portion was a gut feeling too, but I kind of knew that something was happening. When the trolling happened at the Playstation event near Christmas that more or less confirmed for me something more was going on. So glad this is finally happening though.

So really, how long as this been known? Is this even in development yet? Ughhhh.

All the sources say that it's been in primary development for months and is slated for 2017 to coincide with the franchise's 30th and the game's 20th anniversaries.

It hadn't been known until today outside of a tiny few people.

I literally got misty eyed multiple times watching that reveal.

FF7, Xenogears, and Suikoden 2 are my favourite games of all time, and only 1 needed a remake.

My man.. speaking the truth here. All my favs (including FF6, Vagrant)

As someone who's beaten the original multiple times...I think it's cool they're redoing it but I don't understand the freak outs. I was more hyped when I was watching the trailer and thought it was going to be a sequel to VII.

Starting a new game tomorrow when back from work.

I need a fix, SOMETHING. I feel so overwhelmed. ;_;

I'm curious whether the game will get a full 3D remake or if it'll still have pre-rendered backgrounds, small characters while exploring, and such. Keep the charm of the original.

I also initially thought it was gonna be a sequel when watching the trailer.

Kagari,

Can you comment on the CyberConnect2 outsourcing rumors? That seemed like a pretty specific mention from one of the leaks this morning.

If they are doing the heavy lifting, with support from S-E proper and the trinity of Kitase/Nomura/Nojima, that makes it more believable that if they haul ass development-wise this sucker could definitely make it in time for the 20th Anniversary in 2017.

Sooooo many questions with no answers now.

Hope it will be the latter. I fucking love prerendered backgrounds. It will probably be 3D everything tho, but maybe with a fixed perspective like the original.

This is the conundrum I feared would happen with a remake. No matter what changes they do, good or bad, a large portion of the game's fans will never be satisfied.

Well the game won't be out for like at least 5 years. Maybe they are releasing the original to help ensure FFVII interest/hype in a remake?

FFXV can hold us off till then.

A proper HD open world reimagining of this master piece is what dreams are made of ,but its no small task.
