Can't wait for the meltdown posts of "Pre-order cancelled, childhood raped, no 4k no buy, only 8/10???" when it turn out to be 1080p/30fps or when it comes in with below 9/10 scores.

Oh no, this is going to be a much, much more consistently heated pre-release.

"They changed the battle system after all? They actually listened to a few idiots? Done."
"They kept ATB? They actually listened to a few idiots? Done."
"They changed the order in which certain locations are visited? Done."
"They changed the script that extensively? Done."
"They didn't change the script much? Done."
"They aren't providing my total vision for what this project meant the moment it was announced? Done."
"Yuffie just randomly joins in Junon? Done."
"Fort Condor's minigame has been removed? Done."
"The submarine is automatic and only in one section? Done."
"Materia-setting has been removed with another system entirely? Done."
"Cloud's eyes aren't glowing? Done."
"Don Corneo's role has been reduced considerably? Done."
"The music is AC-ish? Done."

This list could go on forever.

Seriously emotional moment for me with this one. I've been waiting for this day since I was fourteen.

This was the first year that this rumor went around that I really didn't believe it. Even slept through the Sony conference (started at 2:00am here).

The rumors also said that they were aiming for the 20th anniversary. Can't see that happening unless they've been working on this in secret for some time.

I've primarily been a PC gamer all my life but I'll be damned if I didn't just get sold a PS4. I will wait no longer than is necessary for this game.

On a more somber/depressing note, my first thought upon seeing the trailer was that four months ago I very nearly took my own life. I was pretty close too, police dragging me off of train tracks and whatnot. If I'd succeeded I'd have never seen this day finally come.

Final Fantasy VII, The Last Guardian, Fallout 4, Doom, a backwards compatible XBox One that supports mods, the PC being taken seriously, VR, Hololens.

Sony didn't win E3.

Microsoft didn't win E3.

The PC won't win E3.

We won E3.

What a time to be alive.

Have they said anything about the soundtrack? I hope Uematsu does it, like he did with Advent Children. I didn't like those remixes in FFX.

To be fair, some of those would be pretty damn bad.

Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was...we finally really did it.

Ehm no thank you. The game need to be a remake, that is fully remade starting from scratch. Gameplay changed and more real time; no random encounters; open world, dynamic weather and day/night cycle; scenario rewritten and updated to match with the prequels and sequels published after the original ect.

If they want it to be a big hit, it must be a game the new generation of RPG players can appareciate.

What an awful idea.

No random encounters? Open world? Scenario rewritten? Different battle system?

They have XV for the new generation, this is a remake of a classic, they can't completely change it, it defeats the point.

A port of a PS3 game, a remake of a 18 year old game, and a crowdfunded sequel of a game released 14 years ago expected to release in 2017

In other words: They are three out of the five most anticipated games in video games history. micdrop.gif

But well...

I really dislike people saying all we need is hd graphics and minor tweaks to the script because ff7 is perfect etc etc. Oh those people will be in for a huge shock and I will be laughing.

Man, the threads are gonna be glorious.
Personally I don't really care if they do it one way or another, I'm just there to relive the (greater) story in new graphics.

Yikes, I dunno. I thoroughly enjoy that ending.

I guess it helps tremendously that
I've always just happily assumed the answer is that, yes, of course humanity survived.
That there was ambiguity on the subject was mental-gymnastics'd out of my head with every playthrough. Heh.

Ambiguity / uncertainity can be great if done right (see also: Watchmen's ending) but I hate when narrators resort to shitty Lindelof-esque "mysterious" narrative, specially when you leave almost every single character character arc "up in the air". Specially after 70 hours of gameplay or so.

No,
they died from Holy
.

Bugenhagen:
"It is up to the planet to decide.
What is best for the planet. What is bad for the planet.
All that is bad will disappear. That is all.
Ho Ho Hooo.
I wonder which we humans are?"

The rabid speculation that ensued afterwards was better than the ending itself, I will give you that :p

Agreed. Since they said "first on playstation," this is definitely coming to xbone/pc eventually. This is Square after all.
it's not definitely coming to anything but PS4 right now though. Some insiders have already hinted the other Platform is PC, Sony did not use that wording to illustrate it's coming to another console, just maybe another platform.

Still very wait and see...

They won't throw millions and years away developing something for people who already played it years ago and probably don't even play games anymore.
You want your remake to please new people too. Changes will be made and it will be painful for us old timers.

Honestly, this is why I am not a fan of the remake in the first place. All these people saying random encouters might be out... I will just keep playing the original. No idea why anyone would want an expansion on the game in the first place after Advent Children, but you now got it, hope you are all happy.

You need to be open for a few changes with a project of this scale.

It'll come to Xbox eventually. If it was a console exclusive then they would have said so. The fact that they said "first on PlayStation" implies it's coming to more than just PC; they're always very particular with their words. But honestly, the more people that get to play it, the better.

I'm open to a lot honestly, I'd be ok with a reimagining. Just not from these people.
I can only pictures flashy cutscenes everywhere, slashing bullets, flying people, Genesis, shitty camera angles, worse writing, and less summons (let's face it) sidequests and minigames.

A positive from this is that FF XVI could be something completely different and new!

FF XIII, FF XV and FVII have just consumed the last decade and i would like to see something else from them instead of remakes..

At the same time if they announce FF XII HD i'll be hyped.

Wow... I don't know you, but I'm glad you're here for this day. Pretty much the best news day in the history of video games

Too much, really. I'll be surprised if they can recreate even a third of the game authentically within the next few years unless they already have been working on it for years, with a substantially large, multi-studio team.

It's easy to assume they're just going to do it somehow, but FFVII has an unprecedented number of totally unique locales, characters, enemies, scenes and movies. There's really nothing like it in gaming. Something's going to have to give somewhere, unless like I said, they have a small army and an insane (and risky) budget for the project.

I'm expecting something more along the lines of Crisis Core or FFXIII in terms of content, complexity and structure, rather than a traditional all-you-can-eat '90s RPG, but I'd like to be proven wrong and see a fully-fledged HD FFVII with all the trimmings.

I expect cuts.

Final Fantasy VII was about the story, the setting, the world, and the characters.

No one remembers FF 7 for things like the crossdressing or the dolphin ride.
I have no problem with cutting out some things in order to make the atmosphere and settings more beliavable.

That's all that matters.

I'm surprised that so many people didn't get the tongue-in-cheek nature of the narration.

It was talking about fan reaction to the original FFVII release, how the characters we met there were never forgotten and we waited so long for them to return. Now after so long, "the long calm", this announcement has happened. Now that there's going to be a "reunion" with these characters, some people will be happy and others will be worried but we should all just embrace whatever the remake brings. Because they're coming back, and they're finally promising that an FFVII remake is coming out.

It's great.

Ah, agreed. I did get that notion but could quite put it in words. Nicely put.

I totally remember... I also remember Hojo bathing in the sun with beach babes.

Ugh I hate just about all the extended universe stuff they did with 7. If they are gonna remake 7 in that image I think i'm out.

I was always in the "rather they make a new game" camp over remaking 7.

Superb surprise, but I don't trust SE to release this anytime soon, if at all. No in-game footage is a bad sign. Still no sign of KH3. They haven't even finished FFXV FFS!

I think they'll have to do the Corneo scene. I mean part of his animation was him humping everything in sight.

It would be funny if they kept it identical though just different graphics but I have a feeling that whole area is changing. Maybe they'll just make him a total creeper.
