Final Fantasy 7 Remake Announced (First on PS4)

I am hoping the graphics get a huge upgraded obviously but as far as gameplay they start as true to the original core

Materia system must stay
Random encounters can stay
I'd like it to stay turn-based as well
Would like some additional side quests and what not
New "Weapon" enemies
New materia would be kinda cool

If they make the combat significantly changed (like FFXV or Witcher etc.) then they have fucked up

The game should be turn based and Im pretty confident it will be. Also dunno where the whole idea of "turn based don't sell" started, they are a different mechanic not an old one.

What Im curious is if this game will be a step by step remake or if they'll add more tie ins with the sequels/prequels. That'd be kinda cool, at least for me (I know there are a lot of people that don't want this)

Lol I lost sleep last night imagining how they're going to handle certain things in the game. How are they gonna do Fort Condor, how are they gonna do the whole Wall Market segment, how badass are the weapons gonna look (that attack on Junon), how will they handle the overworld/highwind? How will they handle Cloud's freakout scenes? How will they handle summons. What will the battle system be like. It sounds weird but a PSX game almost sounds too huge to do with current tech.

I assume they're aiming for 2017 to coincide with the 20th anniversary, not that I trust Nomura in that regard

Also classic combat pls
Makes sense. FFXV for 2016. FF7R for 2017. FFXVI for 2018.

Square Enix have been aiming to annualize this series for awhile.

- Materia system would *have* to stay, otherwise it wouldn't be FF7 anymore.
- I am not so sure about random encounters -- maybe have a decent respawn rate at random locations.
- turn based, or action would be fine, as long as we had the choice
- sure, why not have quests
- after emerald weapon, I don't know that we need more lol
- new materia like what? they had pretty much everything covered in game. unless you wanted to do like crisis core where you can do stuff to the materia

What an awful idea.

No random encounters? Open world? Scenario rewritten? Different battle system?

They have XV for the new generation, this is a remake of a classic, they can't completely change it, it defeats the point.

You're missing which is the real point here, as Verendus says... this is the start of the re-launch of the FF7 franchise and IP. You'll see sequels and other projects soon after it popping out. This is not just a remake but a full lunch of a (re)new('d) IP that will generate more project within the following years. FF7r is not just for old nostalgic fans, it's for attracting new gamers mostly and reinvigorate the FF brand. People expecting this title to be completely loyal to its origins are setting themselves up for big delusions. It'll be more like a re-imagining of a 1997 classic in a 2016 era.

Pokemon is on hand-helds and not a product for which visual spectacle is critical. How can a turn based console game which has to look visually impressive pull in a huge modern audience?

If FF7 remake did Persona numbers, it would be a dismal result. Consider the relative production budgets, jeez.

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
Oh man not a single gameplay screenshot. That's harsh.

Way too optimistic.

A more realistic schedule is Mainline, Remake/Spinoff, Remake/Spinoff/-2, Remake/Spinoff.

If they had any leadership.

If they didn't think it was coming to Xbox, they would have said console exclusive.

They didn't, at all. That makes me fairly certain that it's not exclusive, just timed release.

I want the classic combat with additions and balance tweaks, and I don't mind random encounters but the one thing I think FFXIII did really well (I think that XIII did a lot well, but let's ignore that for now) that its sequels missed out on is the seamless transition from cutscene to boss fight (Palumpolum spoilers). Just picture when the guard scorpion turns up, fighting Rufus on top of the Shinra building, the final fight against Sephiroth.

It'll be delicious.

Will Square Enix actually do a real live conference or will this be something pre-recorded that will be livestreamed?

If that's the case then they should call it FFXVI. At some point if they adopt all proposed changes it stops being FF7.

Isn't that the point of a remake though? To reimagine it in current generation. I'm happy they're doing it at all as long they keep story and setting the same.

Maybe we'll get a tiny smidge more updates at the SE conference later? after everything that has happened, I'm now a believer.

That is SE's press release. It only mentions PS4. So right now it's a PS4 exclusive. Sales of xbone and FF15 (global and in Japan) will decide if there is even a chance for porting. I'm sceptical because of Type-0s abysmal sales on the bone. The audience for FF games is simply not there.

Cannot wait for the SE conference, hopefully we'll get plenty more info on this and maybe a ff12 hd right? Right? I mean everything else is happening this e3.

When I heard remake, I'm thinking about a total new experience. It means change in gameplay and story. It will not be the same game

guess so. ffx and kh hd were a success.

I cried watching the last twenty seconds of the trailer, Midgar looks fucking godlike.

I'll never lose faith again. Sony with this alone you've earned my PS4 purchase out of sheer gratitude.

Seriously, everyone who wants the battle system changed doesn't even want FF7 anymore. Just a Modern FF game with Ff7s story. I will be highly disappointed if they do not have the exact same turn based battle system. Don't mess with the battle system.

Do I win a prize for talking about my penis on the Internet???
Imagine knowing back in the day when you first played FF7, that a remake would be released whose in game realtime graphics would blow all those amazing CG clips out of water.

HNNNNNNNNNG

People actually think we're getting classic combat with this? There is no way SE makes this turn based and I'm completely fine with that. The game would be a dud with the public at large if it was turn based.

There are a lot of people, with or without directorial experience, who could potentially develop FFXVI. Ito is just the most seasoned and obvious person for the job.
Yeah but giving mainline FF to a completely new person seems risky. They gave Tabata control after 3 successful handheld entries. I can't think of anyone else with at least that kind of experience.
There is always Motomu Toriyama ;)
Don't do that man. With the way things are going, everything we say seems to come true. D:

But honestly, a big reason of why I can't stand to play the original is the battle system. Having a honest-to-god remake that allows me to get the admittedly ridiculous story beats without suffering through days of grinding, random battles, and chocobo breeding is pretty much the only thing I want from this.

Really interested in how they'll handle this, a full remake of a PSX game... Even then, what little we saw of the places and characters looked fucking good, so i have faith.

And also, Lord Nomura is directing
so everything will be fine

This whole thing stinks of Tomb Raider.

Stop being Microsoft and clarify what you mean.

It's pretty clear that the game will launch first on PS4 before going anywhere else. Hard for Sony to give an exclusivity window when no one has an idea when this may come out. Also, the game was not announced for Xbox one yet. For all we know, it could just be PS4 and PC.
