Major spoiler if you never played the original:

I wonder if Aerith/Aeris will finally be savable/revivable? I always heard it was planned for the original game, but got cut due to time/budget constraints.

This is pure speculation but I wouldn't be surprised if some re-imagining/modernization happens to certain systems/parts of the game. I don't really mind that, personally.
Me either, but if it isn't menu-based combat I'll lose my shit! Lol

People prefer the older games because they DON'T play like XII, XIII, XV, etc.

So it seems the community is already pretty divided on what a FF7 remake should be in terms of the battle system... I wonder if SE will go for action and draw in a bigger crowd, but risk dissapoining the more hardcore FF fanbase. I'm indifferent, perhaps leaning more towards action.

Waste? Oh boy. The red X you just put on yourself. But 3 years? Holy.

I think he's full of shit, but I wouldn't mind seeing people tarred and feathered for blaspheming FF7.

That back in the 90's when development cycles were more concise and most of the areas took place on pre-rendered backdrops. A full AAA budget RPG with full scale HD visuals and enviorments? Even if it's a remake of an existing game I'd be shocked to see this finished quickly unless it was in the oven for a while.

Presumably KH 3 is almost done, so I could see all resources devoted to REMAKE.

I think it would be super neat if they offered 2 combat modes for the FF7 remake, the classic combat system, and maybe something like FF12 or Crisis Core where it's like semi real time.

Honestly the only things I don't want them to change are the story, the characterizations, the music and the visual aesthetic, if they want to fuck with the gameplay then go for it.

Crisis core had the FF7 aesthetic down while maintaining it's own identity, so as long as shinra troops still look like shinra troops and midgar looks like midgar, I'm down for whatever.

Known about this for three years now as SE is one of "my" clients. Still sad it's true. Waste of time and resources.

Compared to the trite they have been releasing the last decade or so I don't see how it's a waste, even if the only thing good to come out of it is to remind Square Enix what made their games great to begin with. Their stock price agrees.

i remember Nomura saying in older interviews that he would really love to work on a remake, but its not up to him.
Maybe this is his dream project

I wonder who is now his favorite Character - Noctis or Cloud :p

Can't wait but I hope they modernize the battle a bit. (at very minimum have shorter version of the summons lol)

I used to summon Knights Of The Round sometimes just because I wanted go to the bathroom without pausing the battle. It was very useful. I don't want them to change that.

I am excited but must acknowledge how long Square Enix can take with projects so hope and look forward to it coming out in my lifetime.

I'm a little pessimistic even with Nomura's involvement.

-UE4 and not Luminous
-Currently outsourced
-If the 20th anniversary thing is true then that would be just over 2 years dev time?

I would expect a lot of cuts and because its outsourced UE4 and not internal Luminous I'm not aniticpating the same levels of production values as seen in XV. (Animations, lighting system, day/night cycle, weather systems, large environments etc...).

Suppose that's a little pessimistic, but I want to keep my expectations much lower than usual. A butchered or watered down remake would kill me!

They'll put it on X1. The architecture is practically the same and it's been some time since FF was exclusive to a Sony console. SE won't leave money on the table. The bigger question is PC release or not.

I honestly think the bigger question is X1 release or not. I think PC is a given considering what SE's been doing recently. They've got that game streaming thing, so they pretty much have to have a PC port in order to do that, and they might as well release it at that point. That's why we've been getting a lot of other PC ports.

maybe but where would it go? there is no audience for this on xbox. And I hink on PC not many people would buy it until its lowered to 15 bucks..

Speak for yourself.
I have a PS4 and an Xbox One.
I'm an audience for this on Xbox. I want the achievements.

This thread is full of horrifying ideas to 'improve' the game. Jesus, if it was down to some of you lot, they may as well call it FF16 starring Cloud and be done with it.

No random battles? Fuck that.
No turn based combat? Fuck that.

These are staples of the game and the series. It's bad enough they are not in the more recent games, you don't remove them from a remake of a classic, then it's just another game. It NEEDS to be the same game, with reworked assets, nice new cutscenes and slightly updated story. Slightly to give it some extra angles, not to butcher what it was.

I hope, really fucking hope they understand this, and don't listed to all you quick fire shooter 'no one wants old style of play anymore' people that resulted in the ruination of the more recent entries.

Turn based rpg don't belong on home consoles anymore. It's a waste, if they decide to keep the battle sydtem

This statement makes me legit angry. You don't like them on consoles? Take a ride then. You don't get to call that.

You know what really need a gameplay update?

Fort Condor

Fuck that shit
Or they could just get rid of that and all those tedious minigames that add nothing to the game (that weird submarine chase that does nothing, for example, I would also be fine with the snowboarding segment gone because it was dumb but I bet most will disagree) but I'm sure I'm in the minority with that.

Maybe it could be something like Crisis Core?

Final Fantasy V and VI be like.

lol.

Except the difference is that Fredo deserved to be passed over unlike FFV and especially VI.

Wtf is this crap? Go play something else if you don't want turn based.

No. I want to play FFVII with a combat system that isn't complete crap on the big tv.
Turn based only works on handhelds now.

Don't worry if you want the old turn based combat, you should play the PS1 version. :)

I'm kind of curious which project Nomura is directing has the priority for square at this point, Ofcourse they're going to put out XV first but I mean after that. Seeing as he is directing both Kingdom Hearts 3 and FF7 Remake, Both should be very important and both should still be ways off. They announced KH3 first so you'd think that has priority but people have been waiting longer for FF7.

You are going to be very disappointed.

Do you have some information about it?

This is what I have:

So no I don't have information lol.

SE better have some today.

As someone who only experienced FF7 by watching a friend playing it through completely when I was 10, should I go and play it on my own now?

The irony is a little hilarious. People have been complaining about the downfall of FF but now want to strip the FF7 remake of some of it's iconic features.

Are we seriously spoilertagging things about FFVII? How about we spoilertag events from Romeo&Juliet? Or The bible?

Those dumb mini games are part of what makes the whole so charming. Just like the dumb arcade machines, dumb bike section, dumb chicken racing and all the other unrequired mini games, that instead of just having a cut scene, effort was made to make them playable, or exist at all.

I don't think I can handle this thread :D

So many questions! What type of camera will they use? If the camera can be freely controlled will we at least have the possibility to have the camera "set" to the original game? Will we have chibi models outside of combat etc. etc.

On this scale, where do you expect the game to be:

True to the original |-----1-----2-----3-----4-----5-----6-----7-----8-----9-----| Targeted at new players

I think game mechanics: 9, story: 2

kingdom Hearts is basically in Yasues hands at this moment - he even said in an interview, that even after nomura loosing his director postition on FF15, his work rate towards KH3 didn't change

I could image both Kh3 and FF7 releasing in 2017
