I very much enjoyed the emphasis on game design, a refreshing perspective.

Makes sense given that they are giving us a game design tool through Super Mario Maker.

Meltdown tyme.

Wii U fan here, and I'm angry at how 3DS centric this was. 3DS is a shit dying handheld with a future that isn't particularly long, but apparently Nintendo, even Nintendo themselves, see Wii U as something even shitter. Shitter than shit. Worthy of scraps until they yank even Zelda from it.

I have this console and the sum of first party content I want for it at the moment is Mario Maker and Art Academy. Animal Crossing Party looks crap and I have no interest in Starfox, because apparently even Platinum can't make Miyamoto's multiscreen vision feel flashy. The chicken arwing is awful. Nice puppet intro though, good use of resources Nintendo.

I already sold my 3DS, and I am strongly contemplating binning my Wii U.

To do this on a year when the others had such a strong showing, and when it was obvious they would, is unforgivable.

The games they showed were good but there were no big surprises at all. The new games they showed were nice but nothing big. Really disappointing worse Nintendo E3 since 2008.

I don't understand how everyone thinks this conference is worse than the Vitality Sensor and the failure of the Wii Music reveal

Oh, sure.

It definitely wasn't very good at all, though. A feeble lineup padded out to 50 minutes by spending far too long on titles like StarFox, Zelda 3DS, and Yoshi.

The entire thing felt like it was aimed at children. Nothing but kiddy games. Children aren't the people who watch e3. The more mature games like Devil's Third and Fatal Frame didn't even get a mention.

The big
trick
questions is, are you a squid, or a you a kid?

People joke about the Vita, but at least the Vita still has games releasing on it. The Wii U is more dead than the Vita.
Just what the doctor ordered. As shit as this was, I would not trade the Wii U lineup for the Vita's. Of course I own both so I get to eat shit either way but whatever.

They seem to be all in on NX and I can't blame them due to the Wii U's poor sales.

But that was probably the weakest of the Big 3's conferences. Sony wins E3 for me this year though MS still had a good showing.

This is extremely harsh reception at Japanese stream for any type of conference, really :(

What am I looking at? Is it a rating for the show? Is 5 the worst?

Well that was lame. The only **new** games they announced I'm interested was StarFox (Not even that exciting) and Zelda Triforce Heroes which could be fun. Nintendo is clearly preparing for the NX now.

I wasn't expecting much, since I felt after the World Championship and the Smash DLC reveal/leak/what have you, they blew their heavy hitters too soon. All they had to show was Starfox and the same stuff they had for years now.

Nintendo is shifting focus, some of it not as game related, and I have a feeling like with every Nintendo cycle, things are starting to slow down before NX gets revealed and all their energy will be going for that. It's going to focus more on other property like toys and mobile, while keeping 3Ds afloat as long as possible. There might be Wii U stuff in the pipeline, but don't expect much once NX has been made official.

The lack of new stuff makes perfect sense. They fucked up by having a huge lack of games for the WiiU release, so they are doubling down to have plenty of games ready for the NX launch.

Just like they had plenty of games ready for the Wii U launch after they fucked up the 3DS launch.

Potentially?

...You clearly haven't seen any conference. This was an average direct. A 6/10. It did fall behind because Sony sucked the dicks of ever Neogaf member and was never gonna top it. But because Nintendo came after...it's now the worst. Of course.

Just for perspective:

I'd say the event was "underwhelming" in one word. I mean, a lot of people were expecting megaton after megaton from Nintendo after Sony's press conference, which wasn't a fair expectation to go into. This seemed like typical Nintendo when all they can really show are games that are coming out within the year, not games coming out who knows when (Zelda U, for example.)

I'm interested to see how people react to the announcements.
  • Metroid people technically got a Metroid game, but it's probably not something they wanted.
  • Zelda people got a Zelda game, but they'll be upset that it's not Zelda U.
  • Paper Mario fans didn't get a full on Paper Mario game, but they did get some Paper Mario that will probably turn out better than Sticker Stars.
  • Mario sports fans didn't get Strikers, but they did get Mario Tennis.
  • Animal Crossing fans are getting something on the Wii U, but it's definitely not what they probably thought they were getting.

I guess every year can't be like last year for Nintendo, but really not a bad year. Nintendo went the route of "let's show games coming out Spring 2016 or before" while people will compare it to Sony's "let's drop megatons that really aren't coming out this year". I appreciate Nintendo focusing on games coming out soon, whether the hype is there or not.

I also enjoyed the Muppet scenes. I can't wait to see all the new gifs.

It's not that it was Zelda U, it's because it's not the kind of Zelda game we wanted for the 3DS. But everything else is closed to nailing it.

That and we know that NX is coming, it creates fear.

There was really no reason to even separate Smash from it's own panel because the digital event needed it.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
People say that Nintendo never showed stuff that wasn't coming this year forget that last year they had plenty of those.

Not even DLC for Splatoon, Mario Kart, or Hyrule Warriors proper. Severely disappointing E3 for Nintendo. I have no idea why they split up their announcements so much when they had nothing - the conference would have been infinitely better if it at least had the Smash announcements from Saturday.

-Out of the games they showed, we already knew about Yoshi, Xenoblade X and Super Mario Maker.

-I'm not an Animal Crossing fan, so I'm not interested in either the home designer nor the amiibo "game".

-No interest at all in Yokai Watch, either. Nor FExSMT.

-Metroid Prime...? lol

-That leaves us with Star Fox, Paper Jam, Mario Tennis, Hyrule Warriors 3DS and Zelda multiplayer. Out of those, I think only SF, PJ and arguably HW interest me. What a shame.

EDIT: oh, and that amiibo/Skylanders thingie... I haven't even played a Skylanders game. Not interested at all.

EDIT 2: Oh yes, Fire Emblem Fates. Still hyped, but they only showed us the title and release date, nothing more.

lol what is this post

Nintendo really should have had some mention of the Wii U Zelda, since we got announcements for 3DS games next year. At least the backlash wouldn't have been so bad.

Calm down and smile squids kids. It will be alright.....

Splatoon still best Nintendo game shown this week despite being out already.

Anyway. Starfox and english Fire Emblem are the only interesting new things shown for me so far

Shouldn't have split so much stuff beforehand. If Mother 1, the Smash stuff, and honestly the "mini-direct" stuff was here it would've felt a lot less flat.

Yeah. They really should of just put that in the digital event.
Would of helped somewhat. This was just kinda boring.

That was at least funny. This was awful. I didn't even want much. Just a real Animal Crossing U and I would have been happy.
