MGR + transformers

the game about fucking up giant robots and equal sized robots with a sword now has it's director on a game about... the exact same concept except with a big ass energy axe

i'm down

also lollin' at transformations being parries or something of the like, that's great

edit:
seriously they even went with the extreme buttrock they knew exactly what they wanted to do

Hearing it's Saito definitely has me more excited than before. I hope they actually have time and more money for this one.

Any word on pricing?

My thoughts exactly.

Same.

I'll let tomorrow's showcase be the best indicator of if this will be a Day 1 or something I may pick up later.

I mean, it's already got my boy Grimlock in it, and it's made by P*, that's enough to warrant my attention for at least an hour...

Ironhide. Wheeljack. Starscream. Soundwave. Ultra Magnus. Arcee, even. These are all characters I would rather play than the ones announced, especially Optimus and Bumblebee, but I wouldn't be surprised if Activision pimps out character DLC.
It also wouldn't kill them to use some other continuity.

It looks good and beat-'em-up-y from this teaser, but the game also seems kind of empty and barebones. I'll really need to see more before passing any kind of judgment. Platinum has my trust, but this is...iffy.

Man I really want to see just how bad this trailer is. I have to wait until I get home. How can there be this much negativity about G1 Transformers handled by Platinum?! Is the trailer really that bad or is it just Gaf being Gaf?

Baaaaaaad trailer. Bunch of stills and little of gameplay. Carcombo's look weird.

Yeah, I mean how ridiculous of them to choose Optimus Prime and Bumblebee as part of the character roster

LOL half of the pessimism over this game is just coming from people disappointed it's Transformers because they somehow seriously thought Konami would consider funding a sequel to Revengeance.

The other half is that the trailer kinda sucks. We saw a few combos and single attacks, but otherwise not much more than what we got from the screenshots.

Haha, nice call out to Bayonetta with Devastator reaching up and coming over the building at the end.

Transformers G1/IDW + Platinum? Yes please.

I'm not holding my breath for it being GoTY, but it looks like it will be fun!

Urgh.

Really, what a waste. Those US cartoons from the 80's were so ugly and this trailer totally mirrors that ugliness. Who asked for that? I want names!

80s US cartoons were basically anime, very few weren't made in Japan like Masters of the Universe.

Transformers G1 and the movie were made by Toei/Sunbow.

And Transformers is also a Japanese property too as it's co-owned by TakaraTomy.

This isn't like Korra a foreign property to Platinum, Transformers are as big in Japan too as they are in the rest of the world.

Looks cool.

Would rather larger, more varied arenas, but the G1 Transformers are spot on.

With Transformers: The Movie soundtrack on Spotify - this will be epic!

From time to time, his attacks uproot large patches of earth, which act as a perfect ramp for Optimus Prime to transform and zoom up, before he transforms back into robot form to slash at the Decepticon’s huge head.

This sounds cool, working the vehicle modes into the combat. Over all, it sounds very promising. But it also sounds like there's a lot in this intro sequence alone that we've not seen yet, which makes me wonder why the teaser was so basic. I'm a fan of how Megatron looks

Playable characters in this game are:
Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Sideswipe, Wheeljack and Grimlock.

Thanks. Based on that, it seems like Platinum is going to take care of the Transformers property as well as they did MGS in Metal Gear Rising. Lots of nice references for fans.

I couldn't get a sense of what the combat system is like though. The preview is written in that bland style that doesn't go too deep into anything of real interest to dedicated action game fans. I hope a skilled player who's well versed in Platinum's past titles will share some detailed impressions soon.

Ok, yeah. That trailer was terrible.

I'm kinda disgusted by some of the opinions early in the thread. PlatinumGames and Kenji Saito proved with Metal Gear Rising that they could take a well loved IP and bring a Platinum action game spin to it which was fun, action packed, and had great boss fights and fanservice for both brawler fans and Metal Gear fans. They also did it all in less than 2 years.

Now they're making a G1 Transformers game with nice celshading and a playable GRIMLOCK. With DEVASTATOR as one of the bosses. And it's even coming out on PC at the same time. And people think this is a bad announcement? The fuck?

Indeed.

I don't get this place sometimes.

Agreed.

Explain every point in this post, I do not comprehend.

Plat makes the best character action games around bar none, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Metal Gear Rising, ect. With a pedigree that includes stuff like Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry and more. Korra was a budget title and it played like one. They were left with all the time in the world for Bayonetta 2 and it turned out amazing. Just like any other studio, when given the proper time their games will shine (hey like platinum lol) if this is some rush job Activision hired them for that's exactly what it will be like. Plat has nothing but my confidence when it comes to gameplay and games that appeal directly to me. Even more so with transformers involved.

is what I meant.

And the combat looks more akin to Wonderful 101 lol. Maybe it was the camera angle and the way bumblebee attacked or something that made me think that.

Though I am legit sad it seems like I wont be able to play as my favorite Starscream.

Sounding good so far

It's ok to be a little skeptical, especially based on this trailer. Personally I was more thrown off by that one guy who was like, "this looks terrible, unless it's based on a TV show or something"

IMO the trailer looked bad. I'm one of PG's biggest fans. I have all the games they've develop except for Legend of Korra. I have no doubt this game will be great. But, their first showing left a lot to be desired for me. I'm looking forward to seeing more though.
