They implied rape "worked" because it was ambiguous. The just need to keep it equaly ambiguous (no free camera during that scene, for example).

It is interesting but I really don't think a change in graphical style should force any kind of censorship on the game. I mean, the game is being sold today with all of those things included, and no one is asking to have the game pulled.

It's kinda hard to get away with a man hanging by a noose talking to you.

At the very least in it's current graphics the ESRB won't be too pleased.

So am I in the minority here that would be OK with this re-imagined to sort of fit the style and tone of Advent Children and/or Crisis Core? I used to want this remake with just some shiny non Popeye models but my feelings have really changed as I've gotten older. The cross dressing, Red XIII as a human, dolphin launching stuff could be gone and I'd be OK with it.

I feel like that stuff holds up even worse than some of the art assets. I dunno, I'm super curious what the scope of this project is going to be. If they went more action rpg in mechanics and built it around an open world ala XV....that may be my perfect version now.

SE has never disappointed me with any battle system they've made.

Sure, it may be different, but it most likely won't be bad unless you go in with a negative mindset.

this is how i feel too, i really could go either way.

honestly what made ff7 memorable to me were the characters and the story, not that it was turn-based. this literally is not on my list of things that i would consider iconic to ff7

what im rooting for out of this remake more than anything else is that they take the settings, characters and story and enhance it all in a more immersive way using the technology that we have today

I honestly don't remember. My point is that they could take the steps now to make sure it was delivered in a respectful way, say, as opposed to how the Ace Ventura reveal scenes look to modern audiences.

Ah, tbh I don't remember either. From the sounds of it, it wasn't -----phobic of anything and just had a comedic element. I think that's fine, helps preserve some of the charm of old FF7 into the new.

It's a theme park though. Just make him goofy as shit and make it obvious that it's just an employee in a costume or something.

Exactly. What's important is the story, the atmosphere, the music, the characters, etc, and those things are timeless. The combat and gameplay should be something that's built for people to be entertained by *today*, because those are not timeless, and are relics of what could be done back then.

I want no fucking changes damnit. I can replay FFVII to this day and love it far more then the action RPG crap battle systems that have been made since this games release.

The only change I would accept is moving to a FFX style queue system along with the options to do a shorter summon. That's it. Nothing else.

Any other major changes is blasphemy. We already have had Crisis Core and shit like that. No I want to see this game in glorious HD with redone polys and redrawn pre-rendered backgrounds with an insanely enhanced battle system look with super high poly models and great particle effects.

Just imagining the summons gives me shivers.

But I have a feeling they are completely remaking this game and it will play nothing like the original.

Well everything we've seen from the promo so far says it's Advent Children x1000. Which, I guess I'm ok with. I think they might've had an opportunity to just go completely off the rails and let us play in a living, breathing Amano watercolor. But this'll have to do.

Re: mechanics -- Someone else said an FFXII-style turns system in an open field would work and I agree. Nobody wants random encounters anymore, that's for sure.

It's not really a matter of censorship when we can't tell if the implied rape was part of the actual dialogue or just a translation thing

I mean, would it be censorship if we had Tifa not tell Barret to stop acting retarded when he gets tired from climbing the Shinra stairs?

It could be. No way for the people not responsible for those decisions to know unless asked directly and then giving an answer.

its a shame the ffvii remake has finally been announced and people are concerned with political correctness and not offending anyone.

So we know Sony is helping fund Shenmue

Are they or are they not doing the same with Final Fantasy 7? They never said "console exclusive", which makes me think we will see this on Xbox, but I'm curious about the deal.

Shenmue sounds like a popular game to keep away from the Xbox, but FF7 seems even bigger.

There's a lot of stuff that can offend, and people these days are hyper sensitive for some reason.

Like they might censor Cid's domestic abuse too

It has been implied through discussions in this thread and insider info that Sony is helping fund it. Not guaranteed, but implied.

It's almost like art is subject to the society in which it's created, and its caretakers know potential pain points. Not thinking about this stuff is remarkably naive.

This is interesting in light of my Cait Sith concerns stated earlier. I wonder if they'll make it more obvious in a realistic render.

I think Cait Sith is iconic enough that they'll keep him around (and remember, they still used him in Dirge of Cerberus too). I certainly hope so.

However, I absolutely do not expect him to have dice- or slots-based limit breaks in this version. It'll be something else. That'll be the major change to him, not the character design, I suspect.

i think about it. im just not sensitive enough to care. not every piece of media released has to be PC. especially not a game. in my opinion of course. others are more sensitive to various social issues

I hope they embrace the wackiness of the original game. Cait Sith should be in this game and he should be as stupid as he ever was. I mean, why not? Kojima always gets away with it.

Noice.

Damn- that's some rough real estate right in front of those goddamn massive lights, lol.
Hope those residents have good blackout curtains!

thought kagari pretty much confirmed it along with console exclusivity (like sfv). unless she clarified her statements in a later post

No offense to that poster but Sony would be shouting it from the rooftops if this was a console exclusive like they did with SFV. First on PS4 just screams timed exclusive.

oh how daring of you! you should DEFINITELY post more about your opinions on this simple subject.

VI would be the game for that, I think (and boy would I love to play that style of remake). I think Advent Children pretty much is 90% of what they were envisioning w/ original VII's aesthetic.

Kagari swore up and down that FF13 would never come to Xbox 360 as well.

The "First on PS4" gives reason for pause and until it's confirmed one way or the other there's no reason to think it won't show up on the bone.

Oo -- What about voice acting? That seems obvious at this point, right? Would be cool if they could land a few stars.

Johnathon Taylor Thomas as Cait Sith
Vin diesel as Cloud
Paul Giamatti as Barrett
Queen Latifa as Tifa
Me as Sephiroth

It'll be great.

I wonder if they'll even keep the T rating. XV seems to be aiming for a T release but Type-0 went for a mature rating in North America. Considering the amount and level of violence in the game, I just don't see them keeping it T at all.

also forgot about voice acting in crisis core and of course advent children. i'm assuming those VAs were mostly the same between those games and KH

its fun to look back at KH and you recognize a lot of them do TV and movies. twas a different time. now we got a lot of legit straight VA only actors

Entirely possible deals are still being worked out and any direct partnership/collaboration with Sony WW Studios hasn't finalized yet on a legal level? I dunno. I wonder if Verendus could pop in here and clear this up?

Kagari indicated it was similar to the SFV deal, but unlike SFV, the PS4 and potential PC version would not be releasing at the same time- hence the "PS4 First" mention.
