Final Fantasy 7 Remake Announced (First on PS4)

So.... what? You didn't really answer the question.

Just read the latest interviews. Nomura mentioned that this announcment was a way to excite people about consoles again. As far as budget goes... they have Kitase, Nojima, and Nomura on board together, so it's obvious that they're very serious about this game.(Nomura quit working on FFXV to basically work on this game)

Not him, but because AC is is bad.

Clouds personality was crap and nothing liek end of FF7 cloud.

He made progress, got over his mako/jenova bullcrap.

He's support to be a cocky smartass, not emo sulking away.

I heavily dislike AC but I think the AC Cloud complaints are a little silly. There's many reasons he's mopey in AC and it's not representitve of how he was in VII. Someone he loves is dead, a friend is dead, he's struggling with geostigma and a bunch of other issues.

The problem I have with AC is everything after it tries to represent Cloud that way.

Thanks.

Hope the engine is UE4, look at KH3 gameplay footage, so clean and beautiful.

It should be. Luminious team is stuck with XV team. If we don't want to play it in 2020, they have to use other engine like UE4. The question here is what internal team they will use (or outsource it?)

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I wonder how Jenova will look like. Jenova looks like a giant blob in FFVII:

Jenova_BIRTHFFVII.png

After watching all the SFV footage Luminous can fuck off. I want to see what Square artists can pull off in a more realistic game using UE4

It's not like they can't use Luminous either. This team (unlike KH3) is in the same place as the Luminous team, so they can get support.

Anyway, I also agree with having a battle system like X-2 or even LR, since that could allow for multiple characters easily (and would even be closer to action).

Mmm, but the Reunion is also a big plot point in the original game. I guess what I'm asking is why it makes you think of AC specifically instead.

Well, it's been a long time since I played through the game, so maybe I forgot, but I don't remember that term in there.

Was it used by Sephiroth referring to reuniting with Jenova?

What I mean is they might have created the CG to closer match the look of the in-game visuals. In other words, Unreal gloss.

Oh, I still honestly think that's looking a bit too much into it.

Though with KH3 already using Unreal and that CC2 rumor, it's looking really likely.

I think it has more to do with the fact that the engine's not even complete yet. It's one thing to design an engine on the go for a specific game, but it's another thing entirely to do it foe multiple games at a time.

They got burned twice so far (Crystal Tools, and Luminous Engine's first years). Tabata said enough's enough and Luminous seems to be entirely dedicated to FFXV for the time being.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but it sounds like Nomura is having fun again! At least the tid bits that are coming from him at E3 are a far cry from harnessing his burning anger. He sounds jovial and maybe even cocky.

I find hilarious all that speculation about him leaving the company or even getting fired now.

Nomura on ATB combat from that Engadget interview:

"The comedy or the lighthearted parts -- I like those. I don't want to change it that much. But we can't have these upgraded, beautiful 3D models of Cloud and Barrett, still lining up in a row, jumping forward to attack an enemy, then jumping back to wait for their next turn. That would be bizarre. Of course there will likely be changes there. But if we took away parts like the lighter moments of the game, then it would no longer be FFVII."

And I completely agree

I'm pretty sure Tabata has no say in the matter lol.

Whatever the case, the people behind the Luminous Engine already confirmed that XV would not be the only game to use it, and there aren't many titles over at SE right now that could be using it besides this one.

I'm not saying I want it or that they should use it (heck no, I love UE4), but the possibility is totally there.

Changing up the combat would also take away from what makes it FF7 as well. If they go to an ATB system that still fundamentally resembles what FF7's gameplay was like, I can definitely live with that.

Bravely Default did perfectly fine with a turn based system. Pokemon has lived its entire life with it. I don't see why this needs to be changed.

Kagari, any word if the original is getting a retranslation?

I'm pretty certain it will, especially if they're putting it on iOS and using it to promote the Remake to a new generation.

I think that's a given since it will feature entirely new dialogue.

edit: nvm, missed "original"

Tabata:
"We re-examined Final Fantasy XV's development structure. We had the gameplay team, the cinematics or CG team, and the game engine team. And we finally merged them all together to work on this game.

This is what I'm referring to, with some additionnal assumptions on my part :p

Either way, I trust that they've learned from their mistakes.

Luminous was a shitshow for a long time, and I don't know how useable it is yet. And UE4 seems very solid. But all that said, the lighting in Duscae (which is not the final engine) has to be the best I've ever seen on a console. Luminous definitely has its pluses.

Just check the CyberConnect2 article at Gematsu
Basically, the bigger words are photo-realism, RPG, worldwide, Unreal Engine 4, and physics-based rendering. Matsuyama said. “Open-world is part of the second title, and VR is part of the third. All new titles are in development for the new generation.”

They already hinted FFVII remake?

If what Nomura implying is Turn-based combat creating Ludonarrative dissonance or whatever, might as well erase cure magic from the game, because you know lol

everything is especially cryptic so far. If there is an AI controlling of teammates in this game though they will have failed, however nothing they have said actually really hints to whats going on

And then there was a bunch of interviews that Famitsu did with the Luminous people themselves, and they confirmed XV was not the only one... This is not an assumption from me, they literally say that... I'm just too lazy to go look up a link for you right now >.>

I'm fairly sure they said they'd "eventually" make other games with it. Anyway, doesn't really matter, we'll learn soon enough.

Either way, on a related matter, reading this article makes it hard to believe it's not made by CC2: http://kotaku.com/final-fantasy-vii-bike-game-could-pave-the-path-to-a-fu-1589803588

"Until now, whenever we talked with Nomura about a project that would require outsourcing, his first choice was always Cyber Connect 2" said Final Fantasy VII director, Yoshinori Kitase
[...]
Asked a follow-up on the possibility of a modern remake of Final Fantasy VII, Kitase laughed, "Who knows? Mr. Matsuyama [of Cyber Connect 2] is making the foundation, and after the path has been paved, we might think about making it... At least that's what could happen.

They won't be using the AC movie models it seems.

Notice the screws / spikes on the shoulder plate:

AC:

Interestingly enough, in SOME promotional artworks, he has the same screws:

Still, it looks much more detailed in the remake trailer.

Could be an updated model from the FF 7 PS3 tech demo

(seeing this, I wish the remake would be like that)

That's.... beyond stupid. He's against all turn-based combat because he thinks "it looks bizarre"? WTF?

I wonder how they'll be handling the world map scaling. I can't see them doing something like FFXV, maybe more like Type-0 or the early map version they had for Versus XIII before it was reworded.

I can certainly buy that he'd be very depressed after FF7.
Two friends died which he feels responsible for and he's definitely responsible for a lot of deaths caused after he gave Sephiroth the Black Materia(it kind of annoys me that they didn't really point that out in AC). With how much trauma he suffers in the original you'd expect him to be psych ward or seeing a psychiatrist.

With that said, it's a valid complaint to say that it was too overtly portrayed in the movie. He was still an oddball around the end of FF7. That should have remained.
