g / h * x * c * b

where

g is number of gaffers who posted in Halo threads,
h is the percent of Halo fans that are gaffers that post in halo threads
x is the percent of those that own Xbox One
c is the variable coefficient c indicating hype after meh E3 reveal

200 / 0.0001 * .8 * 1.1 = 1,760,000 copies top.

Where does the 1% of China fit into this?

It's not the only kid on the block, but the biggest, more ardent fans are still there. And still, to this day, Microsoft's Halo marketing is the best in the industry. The game is still the biggest gun Microsoft has. It's not the biggest franchise in gaming anymore, but it will do its numbers and get some people to buy a console for it.

Where do you see me arguing against any of those points? I don't disagree at all. It will do just fine and make a decent splash. And I hope it makes a huge splash and surprises everyone.

But everyone I know doesn't feel the draw enough to buy an X1 over it and what I'm seeing isn't changing that feeling yet.

I think Halo 5 looks intriguing. But i do think the draw it used to have is not as strong. It used to be the only game of its kind on console and the original trilogy had a defined story that was easy to jump into. The story is kind of too much for the casual person to be drawn into and the features (at least externally) aren't enough for a lot of people to jump ship from the PS4. Personally, the people I knew that switched to PS4 knew they were leaving Halo behind, but Halo 4 made that easier for a lot of them. It's not that any of them actively hate Halo now, it's just not a big draw either.

Between Halo 4 (which actually became fun after a series of updates and playlist additions) and MCC; there is just too much negative momentum built up.

Where it used to be the definitive console FPS, they've allowed other franchises to come in and steal their "marketshare" and their games recently just don't have that big QUALITY leap there used to be with these other franchises.

The math is impeccable. Pack it up 343.

Exactly. And it's not that anyone I know actively hates Halo, but the negativity was enough to make them just become apathetic torwards it. Most people I know but one console and just ride it out. Some people will but an X1 because of this and MANY of the X1 buyers will get it. It will do just fine.

But to bring interest back from apathy is going to require a big "something" that hasn't happened in any game lately. I'm not sure what that is anymore...

I think Halo 5 will sell like hotcakes. People feel disenchanted with the series and it's due to its age and consistency. This leads to less enthusiasm ramping up every time the game is mentioned.

You can have a damn fine cake, but you'll start to appreciate it less and less the more you have it.

Most of the people I know stopped liking it because it wasn't consistent. Load outs, sprint, etc made a lot of my friend feel like it lost what made it unique.

With the introduction of mantling and other abilities I hope we see some platforming in the campaign.

in a way, they've already discussed that though, what with how maps and levels are designed with hidden nooks to clamber on or jumps that can be made with a well timed thrust and clamber.

That's one of the big problems, I think a lot of people face. They started when they were young and have grown out of it. I played Halo 3 in 6th grade and I had the time to play it sunrise to sunrise. The older I got, the less I played due to other responsibilities. I'm sure it's the same for a lot of other people. Everyone's opinions are 100% valid. I believe that some people aren't realizing that they've grown away from the things that made them enjoy the franchise.

Heh; ironically, Silent Cartographer is the only level in the game that is explicit about doing that. Cortana literally says that the pelican that brings the rocket launcher was requested because you're fighting hunters.

It's handled pretty naturally, though, and the rocket launcher isn't really that crucial.

One of my favorite "you will need this"-based weapon placements is the shotgun on 343 Guilty Spark. The game actually pushes it farther back in the level on higher difficulties.

Its the level that made me fall in love with this franchise. They need more of it.

As for the guns they leave in the maps, i liked how in Halo CE they left pistols, snipers and rockets in one spot. It made it harder to predict what type of battle was going to come next. I dunno how many times i ran back to get another gun instead. People will probably say it was bad design, but i kinda liked that.

This is definitely true to a degree. But I would play an arena shooter with no ADS, no loadouts, like Halo 2 in a heartbeat. I love that kind of game. I just like pure teamwork, map control, and skill over loadouts, power ups, 1 shot kill weapons, etc.

I didn't know I could play with other sales figures.

The question is whether the series is still popular. Sales figures are a pretty good way to measure popularity.

Not saying Halo hasn't declined or isn't what it used to be, but sales are sales. If millions are willing to drop 60 bucks on the game, then it's popular. The fact that people stop playing would only matter if the next game flopped.

I wasn't really thinking optional but that sounds interesting.

God damn it, they need to upload all officially. Instead of making us use that crap app.

A). The App sucks
B). There is no phone version of the app

come on guys. seriously.
Uploader said he's uploading Episode 2 now and has the rest recorded and on the way.

I don't see why they don't just officially upload them now. Someone else will do it for them regardless.

yeah, i know what you mean. even something like destiny's VoG jump puzzle could be interesting. i'd love to see them mix it up and add more "platforming", especially with the new movement abilities

The Sprint showed the HUD artists trying out this really cool effect with the visor. Lighting would reflect on the visor so you could see the shape of it in first person.

Too bad they decided not to use that, it looked interesting.

Just got back from E3 and the Warzone game type was interesting in a good new way. But holy shit that Hololens. I can't even describe how incredible that experience was before Halo 5. I'm pretty blind and couldn't do a few VR experiences but Hololens worked perfectly. I never thought Hololens would ever interest me or even be remotely cool but wow it just changed my mind immediately when the objective marker came up.

Halo 5 looked fantastic. I just hope Frankie and 343i know that some of the more negative people absolutely don't speak for all Halo fans. The gameplay footage of Halo 5's campaign got the message across crystal clear. It was meant to demonstrate some of the new elements to the game while also giving us a brief tease of what's planned for the story. I'm excited beyond belief to get my hands on the final game.

This isn't anything new. They did a similar thing with Halo 4, and then come release, the first campaign gameplay we saw was changed dramatically from its original showing to the final game. It's like developers can't even give people a brief snapshot anymore of an unfinished game without so called informed gamers hurling insults at the developer while they're in the middle of having an ongoing conversation with them, or without trying their hardest to win the approval of the crowd with other unnecessarily incendiary statements. At any rate, I loved what I saw, and I absolutely can't wait to see more.

Yep, I was there for that also. Hololens is the real fucking deal. Waypoints popping up, looking through imaginary hangar doors to see dropships and troops preparing for war, and getting a full on mission briefing mass effect style. Just outrageously immersive.

I don't remember, but the cool thing now is that each squad character will have his or hers own unique hud display :)

The HUD is ok, but after seeing the e3 demo on my tv, it blocks off quite a bit of screen space. I'm hoping for an option to make them transparent in all honesty...

Then again, could blocking pixels be a way to bump up the res oo the rest of the screen?

I'm actually liking it.

Amazing to read. Tell me more, how was the field of view?

That would be great, but doesn't seem very likely, unfortunately. 343 loves to fill the screen with useless clutter (see ADS) and they hate offering options to the players (see lack of a classic zoom toggle) But hey, stranger things have happened (Shenmue III got announced this week) so who knows, maybe 343 will decide to give us those options after all...

We'll see I guess. Perhaps frankie would like to comment? Because I cant think of a single reason the option should not be included.

Gotta be said to the people calling it immersive. I dont see losing parts of my screen as immersive. More of a hindrance.

Different strokes for different folks.

I really like it.

I'm going to assume that it would take some man hours to make this an option. Perhaps they don't have the hours to spare. Also, since they are heavily investing in the level playing field mindset, perhaps they don't want one person's zoom to behave differently than another's.

He did not say it was scrapped just that it will be toned down so as not to be intrusive.

It wasn't present in the E3 demo, though.

Halo 4 did the same thing.

I dunno, I like it. For the first time in a Halo game it felt like I was actually inside of Chief's helmet.

It's only in campaign, so it doesn't effect the playing field. I'm gonna check out halo 4 now infact
