It'd be a great game to jump into. Don't worry, most Final Fantasy installments have nothing to do with one-another aside from lots of little franchise-wide lore staples, such as cute birds called chocobos that you can sometimes ride on and even race. That sort of thing. You're fine starting with VII!

XV will come out next year, that would also be a good starting point. None of the numbered games have anything to do with each other.

Excellent. Thanks!

There's one thing they should change and that is random battles. We should always get a visual representation when enemies are close I think.

Hopefully it's Chrono Trigger style where you see the enemies on the field, only when you touch them you enter a battle.

Also, I hope all the crappy mini games are still in this. I want to see realistic looking Cloud snowboarding.

We may be in luck.

Speaking of the minigames in FINAL FANTASY VII, there were many of them and what are your thoughts about that?

The minigames are being proceeded into full-fledged production although not necessarily attached yet. Since it was already proposed by the production team, it’s a stage that was confirmed in planning.

For KINGDOM HEARTS III, the minigame production has already been started. Several things are in a state that can be simply played alone. There is likely a lot of minigames in KINGDOM HEARTS III. For FINAL FANTASY VII, it is still in the stages of planning.

I'll for sure give this a shot. Tried to play FFVII on Vita, and it has just aged way to terribly for my taste.
It's better on the Vita than the PS3. Using the analog stick instead of the d-pad somehow feels better, even though it's just the same 8-way directions as normal. Sort of like playing Super Mario 64 DS on a 3DS.

The rest of the game isn't perfect and in dire need of a remake, but this fixes one of my major gripes with the original.

Yes!!

Also, love the KH news.

It's been a long time since I've been this excited for video games. From Versus XIII's transformation to FFXV, Kingdom Hearts III's announcement (and recent, incredible gameplay video), and Final Fantasy VII's remake, I feel like Square is on somekind of second wind.

They fumbled hard in the previous generation trying to appeal to the western audience. Now they seem stronger than ever just by doing what we wanted them to do from the beginning, make strong Japanese titles.

I second this — I don't want there to be a transition to a battle screen either.

i personally like random encounters. it's a big surprise what enemy it's gonna be.

instead of "oh there is a huge behemoth.. i'll just run around it"

Screen transistion is fine if it doesn't take alot of time. FFX HD had it perfect.

It's not just a matter of emotional feelings, if Aeris lives Sephirot wins simple as that. They'd have to completely rewrite the second half of the game, it's not happening.

Obviously i mean as a secret. It doesn't have to make sense story wise. If she can be revived it would be a secret method to doing it.

I'm a little surprised by the slow reaction by the fans in these videos. As soon as the lifestream was shown behind Adam it was obviously FF7. When the music started and the video shown was obviously not the PC port, there was no question.

I'm also surprised that this means so much to people that I would have imagined were too young to know what this game was.

On another note, I'll be buying every limited edition whatever they come out with. This game is something all of my siblings have completed, we can't be happier. This game is something we all share.

To be fair, the music was from Advent Children.

Yeah the story doesn't even work if she lives they would have to rewrite everything in the later part of the game.

it wouldn't be an official story-driven revival. just like some item you have to do rediculous stuff to do to revive her in end game.. just for an extra bonus if you wanna use her more.

story wise no. i just mean as a kind of secret. its not impossible.

I doubt it.

From what I remember, Gaia is Spira 10,000 years in the future, or something along those lines.

So, maybe an easter egg, but the stories aren't directly connected in the sense that the player needs to know whilst playing.

It came from the nonsense story of FFX-2, so, take that as you will.

Spira's a different planet, not Gaia. Space travel is involved.

I recognized the lifestream as soon as it came out in the big screen and Adam's words were pretty clear, but most of the people were waiting for the confirmation, there's a reason they put the word "remake" at the end, it was basically S-E saying "yes, it's real, no movies, no spin off, no tech demos, it's a REMAKE".

I hope Nomura makes Yuffie and Vincent mandatory and add a character or two to the party for balance. Losing Aerith, which was the only mage character in the game really hurt (no, Cath Sith was not an acceptable substitute).

I expect some of the story will be jiggled around to bring it in line with the compilation. By and large, that should be fine.

No. I replay the game every couple of years, the combat system is still excellent to this day, it is the visuals alone that fail to hold up. I can only assume people saying 'Lol Nostalgia' have not played it since 1997. I have. These people are wrong.

Yup, the materia system holds up and the battles are quick and fun.

I think you're wrong. I'm playing it right now and I very much think the ATB battle system is far too simple, repetitive, and lacks any of the compelling gameplay hooks that many of their following games provided. It also hasn't been balanced really well.

It just looks so silly, even with the primitive graphics. I'm really glad they don't intend to just half ass this remake and stick with that. Nostalgia absolutely is the reason folks are wanting to keep ATB - it's objectively worse from a gameplay standpoint than anything else that came after as far as FF goes.

The battle system of the original is pretty unbalanced thanks to how Materia and stat growth works, offensive magic can't really keep up for most of the game so you just end up with two characters spamming attacks and Limits while another heals if necessary. It's fun, simple and works fine but let's not pretend it was perfect.

I always thought they made magic limited to make room for the use of summons. There are also plenty of creative ways to use materia, which the developers probably wanted players to explore.

Im 100% certain that the characters will be balanced and everyone will have their own strengths/weaknesses.

Ah right.

It's been a while since I've played X / X-2.

I thought it was the same planet, Machina was the remnants of Shinra etc, Fayth = Lifestream, etc etc.

But it's just the same universe?

Meh, even less of an important connection then.

"Yoshinori Kitase and Kazushige Nojima decided to establish a plot-related connection between Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy VII, another well-received Final Fantasy game"

Both are back for the remake, it's possible they will expand the FF7/FF10 connection then.

Most people would settle for an updated turn based system as seen in later FF's, and just don't want an action game where you run around and press X to attack.

Yeah but most of the Materia that lets you do creative stuff you get really late in the game.

For the most part you're stuck with Ice/Fire/Bolt 1 strapped on an All materia.

I'm not. I do realize that the flexibility of the materia system means that job specialization is more characterization than anything else, but it was pretty evident that Aerith was the one and only party mage. Once she was gone, it was felt - Cath Sith as premier magic user and Yuffie (which was optional) for Limit Break healing didn't quite cut it.

That being said, I have trouble thinking up of appropriate characters that would fit in with the pink ribbon brigade. Shalua? Elfe? Cissnei? None of them seem appropriate.

I'm also hoping that Tifa's outfit will be tweaked. I never liked it.

When lifestream appeared behind Adam Boyes, I knew this announcement will be something FF7 related. And then at the very start of the trailer, narrator mentioned "foreboding star" and "star that threatened all".

JENOVA

Such a great trailer. Hopefully FF7R will give us greater insight into the time of her original arrival.

Tidus revival makes absolutely 0 sense in terms of lore and flat out shits all over the developments in FFX,yet they did it anyway.

But I don't think they'll do anything as stupid.I actually predict a fresh and interesting take on the story.Hopefully pandering-free.

Lol, the second he said "years ago, Square released a groundbreaking title", everyone knew it was finally here.

They actually explain it in FFX-2.5 and the HD Remaster audio drama.
Tidus didn't revive; he's still an Unsent.
Doesn't make the "happy" ending in X-2 any less stupid.

The audio drama, despite people constantly making fun of it, actually establishes some lore consistency at the very least.

They did that in a - very - stupid sequel, not in a remake. It's not like we'll turn on the game and have crossdressing Cloud dancing in front of President Shinra before blowing up the reactor.

It's gonna be a special Phoenix Down that you need to go on a side quest for. lol

Can't wait for the next wave of "Kids at the play ground" video game rumors.

Hey guys this worked for me!

If you level up Phoenix Materia to the secret level 7, fight 777 battles, escape 777 battles. Then talk to the sleeping man in the cave 777 times, he will wake up and give you a Phoenix Wing which can revive Aeris.

I swear it worked guys!

162 page thread dedicated to a PC port.

YESSS, he's back!
Dude, don't you disappear again :D

1) Have you been you aware of them announcing it this year already?
2) You always said it would be way far off. Will this come out until 2017?
3) In 2013 when you started talking about it they were in planning stages still. Have they started full production as soon as Nomura joined the team last year then?
4) In-house or someone like CyberConnect2 (who dropped more than obvious hints last year) helping out?

5) You once mentioned seeing a "summon traversal" prototype. Was that what we now know as World of Final Fantasy?

Sincerely yours,
your biggest fan.

PS: I always believed you.

I dunno why but I really do get the sense that Kitase and Nomura are really trying to capture the essence of OG FFVII. I dont doubt the Compilation will be involved in some way but details in the trailer like Cloud wearing his original purple uniform, and the Easter eggs like the dolphin T shirt and 7th Heaven sign. And everything Nomura has said so far is really encouraging. I just have a good feeling. Or maybe I'm just consumed by the hype. Either way, choo choo!

Edit: and there is no way they are taking the death out, I'll bet my house on it. That's like taking out Meteor or Sephiroth. It's central to the games plot.

Same here. Also, they both have been in a bit of a slump, Kitase w/ the generally mediocre XIII games and Nomura w/ the interminable Versus development.

This is their chance to get their mojo back!
