Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

I think that using some overexposed, oversaturated photos doesn't really prove your point...

I took these pictures myself.

Holy shit its almost impossible to read other XB1 threads. Gamescom will be madness.

I found funny how this colorful thing turn some games bad and others good. People just flip a switch and change their opinions like changing their clothes.

I love those colors. So beautiful.
Meh, too colorful, looks cartoonish.

I think I never see someone calling Uncarted or Gears cartoonish.

I like the colorful cars, but I do agree that it lacks something in the lighting that would make it real. Hard to point to it. It looks great, but not "real" if that makes sense.

The weirdest thing to me is people complaining about sterile/empty/bland environments on real world tracks are empty and bland. It is what it is.

Forza actually has some of the most "race day" filled tracks of any sim. If not the most filled out. Thousands of cars/RVs, "fans", balloons, planes/helicopters, confetti, and other details.

..and based on my post on the previous page...it has its moments.

I love this gif, but if there's something T10 can't get right it's the replay feed.

I wish Dan would focus on giving us great replay TV cameras somehow. GT perfected this and has not been surpassed yet IMO.

Can't wait for Forza 6. Game looks amazing. Thanks to blimmblimm for that video! Went back and made sure I had at least 300 cars in all my previous Forza games. Should be getting at least 25 million credits as soon as I start FM6. New Ford GT will be my first purchase.

man..., this whole "overexposed, too colorful, unnatural"-debate is completely embarassing.
*triple-facepalm.gif*

"I don't like the colors Dan used!"
"But my dad's car has that color..."
"your dad's car is so fugly"
"no, it's not! Lots of people drive cars with that color..."
"you suck >:p"

So, Forza does look a little "hollywood"-fake-beautiful stylistically in its settings, but that's not per se a bad thing. I like it and I like the more "typical track-day footage"-look of Gran Turismo... Jesus

I wish we could split up threads on racing games into technical/factual/testable and subjective-opinion-based topics. I'd probably never visit the opinion-based thread before the game is out.

and @FordGTGuy: Your real life pics are overexposed as well. Just let it go before someone digs up Photoshop histograms of your pics to prove it. If some people don't like the way Forza looks, just let them be happy with their other games and ignore their shit on your favorite racing game.

Seeing as I got them straight from Bing image search... yeah.......

Don't try accusing me of over exposing pictures to prove my point.

The track detail barely has anything to do with it, it's their lighting engine and oversaturation of colors.
Like the entire scene is lit with perfectly diffuse fluorescent lights in a studio. It is hard to put a finger on.

I'm studying fine arts. Next year i'll be on the 2nd year of the degree, so i'm not an expert. However, I think I can prove that the issue here is not oversaturation.

One of my subjects in the first year has been "painting". We've studied how the atmosphere interacts with all kinds of objects and how it may be different depending on the place, the light and its source, and the object itself (colors, textures, etc.). One of the key points on the subject was "How the atmosphere and the colors we see change depending on the place we are". The atmosphere and the colors of the scene will change depending on the place. That's because every place is different, colors are different in every place.

Try typing on google "India colors", you'll see lots of colors, a really oversaturated atmosphere. Then try typing "Mediterranean colors", and you'll see less saturated and more similar colors.

The map showcased at the E3 was Brazil, if i'm not wrong. This is Brazil:

Huh? Did you take them or not? They have that pinkish overexposed hue to them. I have see a Ferrari that color and real life and it does not have the pinkish hue to it. Its like a strong red, not a pinkish overtone.

I agree. But there is only so much any game can do to "spruce up" a boring desert track like Laguna Seca. Time of day variations to get some long shadows or colorful clouds is about the best thing that can happen there. That's what I find as unreasonable criticism. If it's a real track, then we have to accept it's strengths and weaknesses togehter.

The one of the Corvette and Ferrari 512 I took myself, the others I found on Bing.

That's a huge LOL if he is really accusing me of over saturating my own pictures.

It may not be an intentional thing. Some camera phones just saturate things to give them "pop". Add in some monitor misadjustment and it can look awful on the web.

In yoru second set, the top Stingray is pinkish to me, but the second looks fine. So there is some difference.

yup, forza 5 was/is a great game. the only really knock against it is its tiny track list but thankfully we got some great (and free!) track DLC.

yep

Long Beach and Nurburgring look phenomenal.

Graphics and lighting are even better than the launch tracks IMO

It's pinkish because it's reflecting the blue of the sky.

Apparently Virginia is the only place where bright colors exist in real life.

I also think Forza could tone the colors down a little but I also think that other racers tone them down too much.

Forza 5/6 color palette and lighting is accurate. Just go outside and go to the dealership on a sunny day. Looks like a Crayola box of vibrant colors. Driveclub is bland in daylight and depressingly gray at other times. People here think gray = realistic, but they need to go outside more often.

Yep, Forza lighting is totally realistic. The environments on street tracks are maybe a bit too clean but race tracks are pretty spot on. Even Dan Greenawalt has "admitted" (not that it's bad) to having a bit of artistic licence with street tracks, such as lowering curbs to stop being hit by cars, so I'd assume they make everything look a bit fancier too. Similarly, I'm rather glad that the weird times of day are seemingly gone, where the sun was close to the horizon and became rather blinding with an overload of crepuscular rays in FM5.

Also, playing RaceRoom today made me think, is Macau still a WTCC track? It's a pretty awesome track and I'd love for it to be one of the remaining five to fit in with the WTCC content.

All I can say about Forza 6 is the 1080p/60fps video that surfaced the other day (on Gamersyde, I think) changed my mind about the game. I wasn't even thinking about getting it before, but now that I've seen it, color me interested.

Microsoft has signed up as the official technology partner of NASCAR and will sponsor Hendrick Motorsports with Windows 10.

BADNED is teasing us already...

But that's a Chevy!

"FordGTGuy"

It's a stock car, I'll just put a Ford logo on it and we're good to go.

Haha...maybe we'll get a blank canvas again.

In reality I don't care about make. I've owned both a Corvette and a Mustang. Doesn't matter to me, still a blast to drive around.

Been steadily watching gameplay videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfK2K7wytKY

Really like this one, for whatever reason, I love the dialogue between the guy playing the game and the other guy watching him play... that's FORZA culture right there.... no other racing game will create the same dialogue and experience.

Also, my eye just keeps being drawn to the amazing lighting and level of detail on the Rio circuit - simply stunning.

This is probably an old link to this thread, but for what it's worth from one FORZA fan to another.

I can't fucking wait.

As much as I love Forza and am looking forward to 6, I really hope we can do something like practice or qualifying. It is the best of hotlapping mixed with the realism of racing. I'd prefer that to doing rival challenges actually.

Also is it known that there will be rain at more than a handful of ribbons?

Warmup laps will be in Forza 6.

Obviously you mean sterile you interested.

So I read up on the Forza 6 loyalty rewards. Particularly about the bonus credits for each game for how many cars are in our garages.

How will they know how many cars we have? Will it be based on what was logged in Forza Rewards? I ask this because I no longer have the save files for Forza 3, 4 and Horizon 1, but have logged considerable time into each.

I really hope they get their information from the rewards page or other server based databases because I lost all my 360 game saves a few months ago. As far as I remember Forza saves had copy protection so I couldn't make any backups.

Why is the discussion solely about saturation and not about the lighting engine? You can't just explain away a game's look by showing completely random pictures of cars and going 'look how red it is'. Come the fuck on.
I think everyone here is objective enough see that FM6 looks a bit more 'gamey' compared to other racers. Saturation is just one of the factors at play.

Alright good to hear, thanks. Any more info on how many tracks will have rain as an option?

No word on the amount but we know that Nurburgring will have rain and over 500 puddles.

No I don't.

I think other racers look too dull, especially during day time.

Skip to 2:10 and look how much closer the color of Forza is to reality than the dull and darker look on Asseto:

I've played the games thousands of hours and I agree with you. There is no Forza game that features realistic or natural lighting. Forza 6 is no exception.

Exactly, it's just the direction they took it, but there is no way people can claim it to look natural and not 'gamey' it still looks great, but it doesn't look real.
