Lots of indie space sims/tactics games lately. Weird how significantly AAA seems to have abandoned that space outside of Mass Effect and Star Wars.

Has anyone played GRAV? It looks great, but does it do anything to stand out from other games in the explore-craft-build genre?

And a friendly reminder to vote if you havent yet

It's been a little bit since I poked in here but I thought I'd come in and show off a new game I've been working on with my buddy John of Lazy Brain Games. It's pixel-styled game called Frog Force.

It's a strange game for sure, but I think that's what always draws me toward these Lazy Brain projects. A quick description (though you're probably better off watching the tutorial video linked above) is that your objective is to clear each board of its colored squares. Clearing a square is as easy as moving the same-colored frog to a square, so click on the red frog, and then click on a square, which he will then jump toward. There are three frogs, so three colors of squares to clear. You'll need to plan your path through the level carefully, avoiding obstacles and staying away from hazards.

There's going to be hidden levels and bonus areas as well that allow you to gamble with your lives. Boss battles are planned as well. It's being put together right now for PC and Mac. There's a possibility the game will be finished by the end of July, though we'll see how that goes.

Anyway feel free to fire any questions my way. If anyone is interested in playtesting a demo let me know and I'll see if John is cool with me sending it over.

I haven't played it since it launched on EA. It has a kernel of something there, but it still needed time to bake.

Watched the video before I read your gameplay info and my brain just couldn't take it all in. It does look a bit crazy (in a good way). Quite happy to try a demo if your buddy needs someone to try it :)

Magicka 2

How did you find this like the first one and interested in how 2 has progressed

Watched some initial video of it and kinda felt the same - dungeons has peaked my interest tho...

I wouldn't recommend it at its current state (it has major preformance issues with certain machines) but down the line with a few patches I think it is likely be fun if you are a Magicka fan. The gameplay has been toned down a lot from the first game, most of the stronger spells and tactics have been themsevles toned down or flat out removed, but most of the more insane monsters are not there so the game has a more balanced feel to it.

Thats not a plus in my book. Magicka wasnt fun because it was balanced. It was fun because it had tons of options with cool side effects and pure chaos. More balance doesnt emphasize chaos.

Agree. Reason I liked Magicka was because of how unbalanced and chaotic it was

That is a very valid approach to it. Their is a certain level of magical madness that the 2nd game just doesn't replicate due to its attempts to game-ify the systems up a lot. Although one positive that with the more balanced nature of the spells is it allows the wizards to experiment a lot more with their ability without the fear of dying over and over and not making progress where Magicka 1 does sometimes fall into a rut where you have to rely on a very limited selection of spells to get through the harder parts. The way I found it was Magicka 1 is a crazy magic simulator where Magicka 2 is a game, whichever you are looking for more is which you will enjoy more.

Enjoyed my experience - didnt see any bugs that i was aware of and looking forward to see how it goes from here!!!!

I haven't beat the PC version yet but it seems to just be Mighty Switch Force HD from Wii U, all the levels from the DS version and some extra levels I think, but none of the second game's content. The second MSF game on Wii U is just a direct port from the 3DS game...I guess the enhanced port didn't prove worth it.

Yeah looking forward to some impressions guys - saw your offer earlier baddy but couldn't justify asking for it after watching the videos - just not sure how much there is to it that would keep me playing it.

Be good to know if it's worth going on/keeping on my w/l though!!!

When it first popped up I was a little sceptical - I tend to keep an eye on patch notes for games I'm interested in though and the changes over the weeks and months certainly sounded promising. I think the 3rd person perspective might be good for me as well since I burned out on FP survival/exploration games.

I'm more interested in seeing how varied the game is - everything apart from the recent new planet types seems kinda similar plus I've got enough crafting games to see me going in this lifetime lol.
