Beatmania IIDX Community Thread: Deluxe Sound Sensation

On the one hand, yay for the fact they're still making these.

.......but considering importing was my only way, it's a huge shame they stopped after Empress. You'd think on PS3, DLC would've been a no-brainer. Or at the very least, combine two games into one with the disc space.

Pretty much this. I love my IIDX but have had no way to play since RED, and I lost my account at that one place(?). Ugh.

It's a shame, but the sim community are making up for it. Lunatic Rave even has the videos. It'll never be the same, but we make do.

I feel the same way :/ I've been sticking with LR2 and my DJ Dao FP7 and although it isn't the same as the consoles and it requires some tweaking with judgment/timing/syncing, it's waaaay better than nothing.

You'd think it'd be a no-brainer to put out a Steam release with DLC packs with all the songs by version, or a monthly eAmuse Home subscription. With the amount that people are willing to drop on a controller for the game, people would buy all the content no matter the price point.

Then again, it would eat into Arcade sales, and Beatmania's pretty much niche at this point, and Konami is Konami, so...

It's just annoying that for over 99% of the US it's impossible to play this game now.

How many US users would be willing to drop money on a controller, though, really? The US IIDX following seems awfully tiny to me these days.

And I'm assuming Konami would see the Japanese Steam userbase as not being big enough.

Yeah, the problem with Steam is that Japan and PC = lol (as I'm sure people who post on GAF are at least reasonably aware of by now) and Steam in Korea has constantly been in a state of semi-limbo because of all the big Korean MMOFPS not wanting CS1.6/Source(CS:GO more recently) cutting into their pie. That's two of the biggest markets for rhythm games. Elsewhere like Taiwan, China and SEA, too many people would simply just pirate everything.

It's still a pipe dream for the rest of the world though. Digital distribution is honestly the only real way to get around the prohibitive overhead of a diluted fanbase, like it or not, and the system lends itself amazingly well to modular games where content is straight out additional content and not bells and whistles like typical DLC is.

I hate this argument so much -- honestly, piracy is an issue of distribution first and pricing second. Steam in Russia is a great example of that. Russia is notorious for being a piracy haven, and Valve addresses this by making it extremely easy to distribute/purchase games on Steam and by encouraging publishers to adjust their pricing downward so it makes sense for the market. Now Russia is their second biggest market in Europe.

There's one huge issue with this, though -- all of these games require specialized controllers in some way. You can't download that (and the person with the 3D printer can stuff it). How are you going to sell those things? Who would even stock them? You could probably outsource it by partnering either with someone who makes hardware (like Hori or Matcatz) or a boutique seller who is already making controllers (someone like Dao or Virgoo), but what is the size of that market? I know the IIDX fanbase is absurdly dedicated, but could it carry a release even with an average revenue per uses that's in 3-4 digits (basically, the total inverse of how mobile games work). And how much damage would this do to their arcade releases?

As much as everyone makes fun of Konami (and deservedly so in many instances), they actually already do this where it makes sense, with their mobile releases of jubeat and Reflec Beat.

I'm speaking from practical experience past and present. Price point and convenience only goes so much of the way. It helps, but it doesn't make a shitty community with a shitty mindset go away.

IIDX specifically is 'playable' on a proper QWERTY keyboard the same way it's 'playable' on a dualshock. If you wanted to go beyond the ideal pipe dream to an even more idealer piper dream (heh), the same way Pop'n, IIDX and DDR share a huge overlap in tracklisting, it's not out of the realm of possibility to imagine another spin-off, specifically targeted at QWERTY keyboards with charts designed that way. As in, not IIDX. THAT coming from Konami especially, however, has just about as much chance as Kim Jong-Un stepping forward, apologizing and declaring world peace.

Konami are satisfied with IIDX's arcade sales, and sadly, I don't see that changing in any way shape or form. The most hardcore players turn out for the cabinets, not for the consoles. (Though I still think they could be proven wrong if they tried.)

I'll make a new thread for 23 once we get the track list.

Incidentally, Hideki Naganuma says his tracks being in IIDX again is entirely up to Konami.

"At its most basic level, it can be thought of as the linking of notes together to form a melody. "A copula is a rapid, connected discant..." However, it is often considered to be a particular type of polyphonic texture similar to organum, but with modal rhythm."

Well at least the name makes more sense now.

Copula as a linguistic term makes this sound thematically like LINCLE
This as well, considering it derives from the latin noun for "link". & we know Konami likes to tie their rhythm games together for unlockables & such.

Holy crap, DJ Sharpnel. That sure takes me back to high school.

Also leave it to Konami to have the most "wtf, that exists?" song genres out there. "BROKEN SAMBA BREAK"? Like, what is that? "PIECED SUNDAY"?!

Boy oh boy I hope that's a Long Train Running sequel. WTF at the Twerk thing.

Anywho, thread http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1078469. Hopefully I didn't format that tracklist for nothing!

Heh, I think the artist creates it! Hideki Naganuma told me that the genre title for Luv Can Sav U was of his making.

Sorry to necro this thread, but Round 1 in Tukwila (south of Seattle) is open, and has two IIDX Pendual machines. Both are in great shape, although kids are starting to tear up the grips on the turntables. e-Amusement is active; you can buy cards for ten bucks at the counter.

(There's also Pop'N Music (Tune Street?) and Sound Voltex III, if you're into either of those!)

Don't think it's a necro when it's a relevant post in an OT. That's what OTs are for :V

Good to hear that. I still wish that somehow a CS will happen. Some (a lot of!) people simply don't have access to an arcade.

That gets less and less likely as the years go by though.

Bemani games connected in North America? Wow.
How is this even possible?
If only D&B would pick this up.
I'm only in Japan for another month so I definitely need to find a place to go.
$10 for a card though? ouch.
There's no way Paseli is a thing, right?

There was an AMA regarding bemani at D&Bs. I didn't read too much just heard most details from a friend, but it sounds like a real possibility.

Ten bucks for an eamuse card? That's pretty steep.

I have one but I was using it at arcade in Boston that didn't use the Round 1 server and the machine rejected it. I wonder if I can clear the data somehow? Or is it even rewritable? I assume they are a read only code and it's bootleg or something.

I may bite the bullet.

Speakin' of eAmuse cards, how many of them are considered "special"? I still have that Timepiece Phase II one that came with GF/DM Masterpiece.......Silver, I think? I remember getting it & my dad thought it was a gift card.

After playing Pendual a bit last night when eamuse was down, I'd have to say that having a card is pretty damned essential.

No eamuse = no floating hi speed nor sudden+ = no hi speed greater than 4.0 = all songs under 160BPM being difficult to time to unplayable

It also means that I can't have judgment turned off.

A one time investment of $10 is very much worth negating all that, and that's even besides the more essential concept of having scores and clears recorded.

Did you ever go to yahoo jp auctions to look them up? There's probably at least a few dozen unique cards out there in considering all the different games which have a few cards made for them.

The cards are read-only cards, so they should work on any machine with card support. Data from one network won't cross over to another, of course. However, the Round 1 cabinets in the US are on the official e-amuse network, so any data you have from playing in Japan should carry over.

As for why Game Underground's machine would not take the card, I have no idea.

Did they change that? Floating hi-speed and sudden+, along with judgement adjustments were all available when I played on a Tricoro cabinet with no card. You need to set them on every credit, but the options should work. Unless they really did gate them behind having a card with Pendual, which seems both unnecessary and completely within Konami's current MO :

The unofficial network (that Game Underground's machine was connected to) no longer exists, and the machine is now offline. It will currently reject ALL cards, not just yours =(

Looking at the official page it seems like I should have been able to toggle the desired option setting screen.

http://p.eagate.573.jp/game/2dx/22/p/howto/option.html

I thought I tried pressing FX/start to change over and it didn't respond. Maybe I was just flummoxed by the server downtime and did something dumb to not activate it properly, and just said to hell with it and rolled on regardless.

e-amuse / IIDX question - is there any way to get past the stupid 8* limitation for your first song? Feel like it's a waste of 1/3 of a credit.

you guys in the US have PENDUAL!?!? WOW IAM SO ENVIOUS.

i played SPADA when i was last year in january in japan. before that i played tricoro and lincle in korea. there is no bemani stuff available in germany/europe(i guess?).

also do you guys play SDVX/jubeat/reflec beat? there should be a thread here!

i have the japanese version of jubeat/reflec beat plus. i bought my ipad pretty much only for that since iam super addicted to these games.

unfortunately the app version doesnt have the arcade songs. the same is about how the songs are played on the app since the screen is smaller.

i suppose there is no way to play IIDX emulated on a pc or something...?

Mad jelly of you guys up there.
I haven't been able to play on a machine since DistorteD...

Hope R1 comes to the southeast soon.
I will travel.
Hell, I once spent a weekend in Clearwater FL just to play an 8th style machine at Beach GameLand. (RIP BGL)

Lunatic Rave 2

bms.bemaniso.ws

I haven't played IIDX on PS2 since 2010. IIDX will pretty much never be on a console ever again, and an official PC/Steam port seems just about as unlikely.

Sim or steal. I choose the former. I'd rather have all the fanmade songs (and Extra mode).
