Time to eat crow regarding Ant-Man

The whole "crow eating" obsession Marvel fans have is so off-putting. It's funny when it's a real ranty post or something but just pulling these one-off predictions gaffers make as part of a wider discussion is sad. Especially the way you guys were talking about it in the Rotten Tomatoes thread. It made me sad to see how fans of Marvel movies react to the successes of the movies. Very childish but I expect it to be some sort of complex after how disappointing AoU was.

Guardians crow thread worked because there was a ton of doubt going into it, and it ended up breaking box office records. Ant-man, I don't remember getting so many negative predictions.

I think it was mostly people doubting it would be any good since Edgar Wright wasn't directing it anymore.

The Motorcycle That Wouldn't Slow Down
the first-page backfire versus the light-hearted acceptance in the GOTG thread really shows where most people are still at on Ant-Man.

This movie has been out for like 5 days in Australia lol. Bit early no? Also publically calling out posters with opinions is eh.

Yeah. "Eating crow" is only a marvel thing here...

OP what is your invested interest in the franchise of "Ant-Man" that you care how much it makes?

Why do you even care about crow from people who are quite frankly still going to reply: "Who cares, it's still Ant-Man."

It's not, but the way they were discussing it in some Ant-Man threads was really off-putting to me. Especially for this film because it's not a runaway success or critically acclaimed. No one was really wrong enough to "eat crow".

Main thing this thread proves is Marvel dropped the ball regarding the first trailer, since that got a HUGE number of views and was nowhere near the tone of the final film.

If they'd nailed that trailer it could have opened much bigger.

Isn't 58M one of the lowest opening for a Marvel movie? At least since they started beeing rather big

I think it's important to consider context here. This is part of Marvel's non-avenger line of movies and any good marketing group will estimate along these numbers instead of operating under the expectation of another GotG success. I believe you'll see similar numbers for Black Panther. 58M is still a really good opening.

Tag is pretty fitting judging by how some of the posts in OP "deserving crow" are negative towards the trailer or have no idea about ant man at all. Like how is that something worth "eating crow" over when the movie doesn't seem to have opened that high nor to that great critical acclaim?

I actually quite enjoyed the movie mind you but I wouldn't call out someone who thought it looked bad after that first trailer or if you didn't know who ant man was.

There was a lot of commentary on how poorly marketed the film is, as seen in the quotes from the trailer threads that Dalek mistook as hating on the film's prospects.

Lowest MCU movie since Increidble Hulk?

Despite the quality of the movie, there's no crow to be eaten on it's performance. Against a bigger oppenent, it probably wouldn't even be #1. He won't be getitng another solo movie, that's for sure.

Weird thread, but FWIW I went to see this with a friend the other day. I wasn't keen on going, mainly because of the development hell and it hasn't looked great ahead of release. He wanted to go because 'it's a Marvel film'. Afterwards, I thought it was better than expected, he thought it was shit. There will be 100's of thousands of people just like my friend - box office takings do not correlate to people thinking its a good film.

Edit: nice tag!

I can't wait till the Marvel marketing department hails it "The #1 Superhero movie in America" after it gets knocked off the top spot.

I'm planning on seeing it in the next couple weeks. If I think it's good, I will happily eat crow for my comment in the OP.

Still gonna say that Ant man is ridiculously uninteresting. Bottom of the barrel superhero indeed.

People were saying this would be a flat out bomb.

Crow got ate.
