Dragon Quest 11 Announced! [PS4/3DS (simultaneous), NX (tentative)]

I don't think ANYONE was expecting an NX bomb right at the very end. The first official NX games announced...by a third party publisher...with no one from Nintendo in sight.

Madness.

I'm wondering if the 3DS two screens thing is just meant to be a cute nostalgia thing or if it's actually meant to appease different types of players. I remember that there were complaints about random battles being gone with Dragon Quest IX, but I'm not sure if that was a serious thing or if it was just Internet trolling. Notably, monsters appear in 3D and don't appear in 2D, so if you only look at the bottom screen you won't know where the enemies are. A rough approximation of random battles.

I believe NX will be backwards compatible. If that's the case, i think it makes more sense for DQXI NX to be the Unreal Engine 4 version.

Shocked it's coming for NX too. Maybe Nintendo might be more open to helping the versions on their platforms get localized this way? Or maybe I just want that 2D/3D mix version too much...

Do we even know if the NX is a console or handheld at this point?

I mean the only thing I've heard for sure is that it apparently runs Android?

Square really is trying to save Japan. Even trying to jump start a machine that hasn't even been announced officially yet. Thank you Square.

Today was a really fucking good day. We already knew DQ XI was coming, but I'm still really really happy. Game looks good and its coming on nearly everything (and hopefully/surely to the west).

SE is having a ball right now. The next month or so is gonna be amazing for them too. Today DQXI, a few weeks its FFXV, and after that is KH3, all their massive series having announcements so close to each other. Fucking awesome.

I think I'll import the 3DS version, then wait for the seemingly inevitable localisation of the PS4 version. That's on way replaying the game will feel fresh for sure.

So what role does Level 5 play in all this? If any?

I saw some people saying they were developing DQXI, but I don't know where that came from.

I'm more curious if we can turn one screen off. It seems like it would be distracting after a while to see both constantly running at the same time. It'd be great if it supported on the fly switching.

Okay, they did say both DQ10 and DQ11 for NX.

Yeah, I definitely heard them say it at the end.

Someone posted you can switch what view you see. (2D/3D) Also that the other screen will have the menu and or map.

So i never played a Dragon quest game what should i expect from the PS4 version? Will i understand whats going on? is it real time or turnbased? puzzles? crafting?deep lore? rich world? wtf is dragon quest?

Nobody has any clue. The footage we saw is the only information about the game.

The PS4 game could be anything.

I'm still convinced it's gonna be a handheld hybrid (with HDMI capabilities or something)

Megaton upon megaton, Squenix is on fire lately.
And the first game officially announced for next Nintendo platform is third party, amazing.

Man early morning hype, I cannot go to sleep now. I know I should not get any hope for that 3DS version to come over here

One twitter translation said you can choose just one and turn the other off.

Know nothing official about it only rumors. So this being announced for the NX is surprising to me considering the console isn't announced yet.

stupid question, maybe: will DQXI be the PS4 UE4 version?

nobody knows. We don't even know what NX is at this point. If it's some sort of handheld successor, or hybrid, I could see an upscaled 3DS port being released for it. If it's a dedicated, powerful console than you probably get the UE4 version.

Wait, what exactly was the wording on that NX announcement? Have they said anything about the timeframe or version? Meaning: Will it be a late port or could it even come out simultaneously?

That's out of nowhere and totally unprecedented for a DQ mainline title, right? Awesome news for Nintendo regarding Japanese support from the get go! Doesn't get much bigger for that and should be an incentive for many/smaller devs to get on board fast.

If they localize this for one system, does that mean they can pretty much release it for all of them? Or is it going to end up more complicated than that?

Like literally one line

"DQX and DQXI in development for Nintendo's NX!"

Who knew the first game ever announced for NX would not be a Nintendo game, but Dragon Quest XI.

SE droppin' bombs.

It is the original JRPG. The entire genre sprang forth from Dragon Quest 1, 30 years ago. So imagine a better version of Final Fantasy with an actual cohesive storyline and interesting gameplay, and you'll have a good start on things.

Was the word "new" 3ds ever used during the conference? I know all the media show it, curious as to whether we're getting a 3ds game, a 3ds game with n3ds enhancements or a n3ds exclusive.

DQXI on every platform (sans mobile) that is (or might/will be) important in Japan ... that is brilliant ... i have to give my respect to SQEX ... EVERYONE WINS! And SQEX will be the biggest winner in the end. :D

Because i am a sucker, getting it for 3DS, PS4 and NX, please SQEX, localize all versions!!!

Wow, Square Enix reveals games for NX before Nintendo even reveals anything about the console(s). Now I'm really curious to know what else Nintendo's been cooking up.

This thread is NOT NX speculation thread #25390325. Please ensure that it remains that way.

My bad, I apologize.

They have been pretty bold with this. It's like developing two different games.
PS4 looks like the next gen version of DQ8 many people were waiting for.
3DS is more traditional/classic.
