Warning: Don't buy Binding of Isaac Rebirth on 3DS

Let me guess. Nicalis handled the port.

They handled Rebirth on everything else too.

I know from following on twitter that it wasn't even possible until New 3DS came around, so this sounds like some kind of total screw up.

The Vita version is great, in case that's an option. Highly recommended.

Yep. Like Spelunky or Dragon's Crown it gets messy when you're way too powered up and effects are getting out of control, but it's spot on otherwise and pretty damn fun to have portable.

Just an FYI for anyone wondering, though... the PS TV compatibility is pretty jank, due to button mapping. I was really disappointed when I finally tried it a couple months ago.

They did. They made rebirth and people are doing their shitty drive by posts.

PC version is flawless. It's an amazing game made from scratch by their team. Blind hate.
Blind hate? Nicalis has a bad reputation for a reason. The fact that they have put things out that didn't have problems doesn't erase all the things they've put out that have been broken and taken ages to get fixed.

Do you, like, know why Nicalis has the shitty reputation that they have?

How in the fuck one of the versions being flawless excuse everything else?o_O

How's the Mac, Linux, PS4, Vita, XB1, & Wii U version? I get they may have a negative rep for other things, but if they've developed this game and it runs well on every other console besides one, it's not entirely fair to just cling to their name. Maybe if it was a port of some other dev's work, but basically it's the opposite of what I bolded.

I bought it day one, but knowing that unlocking the lost is still glitches means I don't really count it as a real game yet.

It is an interesting diversion though, unlocking stuff all over again.

The first invisible satan fight sucked too

The other versions are not flawless ports by any means, they're just not obviously fucked like the 3DS version.

The Vita version can get to a pretty low framerate depending on the game situation. Basically it will chug hard every time you get one of the ridiculous power-up combinations.

My main issue with them on Isaac Rebirth is that they took like 4 MONTHS to bring a fucking patch to the EU. A patch that was available in the US shorty after the damn release.
They are fucking terrible on releasing to EU territories at all. 1001 SPIKES HAS BEEN RELEASED 1 YEAR AGO IN THE US AND IT STILL HASN'T HIT EU.

And don't get me started on the various unfixed bugs they have accross all their games and versions.

Also, read the duckroll thread people have linked in the previous page.

Yea had it happen twice... Should get a wiiu code for being beta testers....

I don't even have to guess which country you're from. "OH NO I HAS AN ERROR! I DESERVE FREE THINGS!"

To be honest, as soon as I heard Nicalis were involved, I bought it on PC and ruled out a console purchase. Can't even localise a game for the EU, let alone actually do testing. Shithouse companies in 2000 even managed to get worldwide releases going on, and they were put out on disc.

Wow, that's a shame. I'm glad that I already had the opportunity to play the game on other platforms otherwise I probably would have been one of the frustrated people right now.

What the fuck is with Nicalis?

With how severe these issues seem to be, they probably deserve a refund.... IMO, anyway (or a patch that fixes the issues, which I think there is another patch that may or may not cause more issues, of course, but a game shouldn't be released in the described state lmao)

Such a shame. It's a spectacular game and one of my all time favorites. I hate to see a botched port of it on any system.

You're telling me a Nicalis game is completely broken? No way!

It took the EU PlayStation version 3 months to get a patch that fixed progress stopping bugs.

Do. Not. Buy. Nicalis games (on consoles)

You seem to be taking this in the direction of "Americans are whiny and litigious" when much of Europe tends to have stronger laws protecting consumer rights in situations like this.

Not really. I've played a bunch and it chugs often. The framerate takes dives on most larger rooms even without being overpowered.

The PS4 version runs well, though. I did get it to play on the Vita and was quite disappointed.

Hmm, don't know if I should download the patch. Other than the music cutting out once in a while I haven't had any issues with it yet. Having a ton of fun with the game.

You know nicalis did rebirth right? funny how no one is acknowledging that.

Never a "congrats nicalis", always "fucking nicalis!!!"

Are we supposed to congratulate them for the one time that they actually did their job (to be noted: not a good job, just their job) while they have dozens of fuck ups? I'm sorry, but I'm gonna need a lot more to go from "fucking nicalis" to "congrats nicalis".

Many other companies make games without fucking up as much as they do. I see no reason to praise them.

I guess that he means that people only comment on the negative things and not the positive things.

Nicalis only needed to burn me once, 1001 Spikes was my first and last Nicalis game. Won't fall again

that sounds like another quality Nicalis release. I loved BoI:R, it's my GOTY from last year but fuck waiting four months for a patch.

For the most part it is, when the game is updated. PAL region was waiting for a patch for the Vita version that the PC/PS4 versions got months before. That means no sync between PS4/Vita versions. I won't even bother going on about how many trophies I should have but don't because the game is bugged out on me so many times.

I'm really disappointed with how Nicalis have handled the game and I'm not surprised in the slightest that the 3DS version is a nightmare. Expect poor support from here on out.

I can honestly say that I would never even consider playing the 3ds version.
I have a perfect portable version on my vita and if I want to play on a TV I use my ps4.
It sucks for everyone that wanted to play it on 3ds though. Hopefully it gets sorted soon.

PC version is flawless NOW.

It took a few months and a bunch of patches to do that though. When the game launched there were fun problems like the game not saving progress, crashes, and FPS dips into the single digits, not to mention more minor stuff like achievements being utterly borked and a lot of items not working.

Trying to use the PC version to call this "blind hate" is just ignorant.

I've been playing the game tons since it launched on New3DS without any issues other than no 3D (even though e-shop says it has it) and framerate issues (pretty minor, just noticeable after playing lots on ps4).

I don't have the update downloaded yet and now I am kinda scared too, should I skip it since I have had no issues at all yet.

So I don't know what people are doing to make these issues happen but I never experienced invisible enemies or music issues before updating despite having completed full playthroughs on 3DS.

I just updated the game and played for around 20 minutes with no issues except the same minor framerate drops.

I have never had to hard-reboot my New3DS except when I update the System OS or when I change something in System Settings, and in those cases the System hard-reboots itself automatically.

For all the talk about Nicalis, I really only know them from the Cave Story port and long delays on games.

Cave Story, for what it's worth, ran pretty well and I didn't notice any glitches in my playthrough.

I wonder if it is something like [micro]SD cards used causing issues here. Lack of music sounds like a streaming issue which could be caused by an SD card reading too slow or too fast (as in the music loads before the game knows what to do with it and gives up).

But I'm no developer so...*shrugs*

On a Wii U you can't just delete the patch and play the old version like you can on a 3DS. The Wii U OS refuses to load the game if you don't have the latest version you have had. Another weird kink of the Wii U OS.

I'm pretty sure I'm using a Class 4 32GB microsd and have not had any of the mentioned issues...

EDIT: I doubt anyone is trying to use cards slower than Class 4 in their 3DS but if so maybe that is the problem

Things that are buggy are not always buggy 100% of the time. Plenty of notoriously buggy games can be played through fine by individuals. "[something] doesn't happen to me. The fault must lie on [user]" is a very bad way to look at things.

Well BoI Rebirth is a great game. Everybody knows that already.
Yeah, that is true. I just ment that i think his point was that people are a lot more vocal when there is negative stuff happening compared to positive things. But its not like no one said anything good about them regarding Binding of Isaac Rebirth on other platforms though.

I do work in the software industry, I know this. Where did I accuse someone of lying?

I said I don't know what people are doing to get these issues because the OP said the new patch made the game crash every few minutes and I've played 20min straight with no crashes and over an hour total no crashes on the new patch.

There is likely a cause for these crashes if I can play for more than a few minutes without having it crash.

Edit: whoops misread your post as saying I said someone else lied, but seriously, there is a reason for the crashes beyond the patch makes it crash every few minutes, which is doesn't for me anyways

I'll say that the first run after the patch went totally smooth for me. Every run after that crashes about 20 minutes in. If I try to pick up the run again after rebooting it will crash before I can finish the floor. I'm curious how much you've played so far after patching.

That would be a cold reboot. A hard reboot is when you kill all the power--when you press and hold the power button for a few seconds to turn the system completely off and then pressing the power button again to power on the system.

What happens in Binding of Isaac: Rebirth on the New 3DS is that at random, unpredictable times during gameplay, it'll completely lock up the system (Nothing will work. Homebutton, normal press of power button, etc.) with no other way to get out of it other than killing the power completely.

It's not that the game locks up "every few minutes." It just locks up... randomly; but usually the chance increases after long periods of gameplay. Play the game for about an hour and there's a chance it'll lock up the system at least once during that period.

"The patch crash bug isn't on our end, but we have a workaround coming via another patch. #sorry"

How does that work? If you release a game for a console with fixed hardware everything is on your end.

I have a rare crash bug in Gunman Clive 2 that's a legitimate GPU hardware bug and an absolute pain to work around, and while I've admittedly still haven't fixed it I'd never dodge responsibility for it.

It's Nicalis. Dodging responsibility is what they do.

"The 1 year+ delay in EU is because of ratings and cert!"
"The patch isn't out in EU because SCEE wanted to delay it until after new years even though SCEA region got it in December" (We never got the patch btw, they skipped right to the one after that)
