Is this where the controller will lock up and move on its own? Along with the mic dipping terribly so people cannot hear you (the mic dip is mistaken for lag).

I had this happen to me recently and its defectively not my controllers since they would work perfectly fine before.

I think it's some kind of Bluetooth interference. I rebuild my database (probably does jack shit for an issue like this), and reset/reconnected the controllers.

i'd move your wireless router. i used to get it really bad when my router was next to my console. or if i was uploading files from my laptop

I don't think it's that. I think, for the 'launch' UI, they stripped as many unnecessary features as possible to focus on getting a speedy, working, bug-free OS out there at launch. This is a safe, sound strategy -- avoid feature creep at all cost, make sure your build is rock solid, add features later.

So, for example, at launch they know people will have relatively small libraries -- so don't waste time and energy coding, debugging, and possibly introducing issues by allowing the kind of organization required for large libraries. Add that later. Again, this is sound.

However.. now we're in the period when some people -do- have large libraries... so now some of use need those features, and Sony needs to work them into their priority list, which is always easier said than done when you have a thousand voices asking for a thousand different features... do you focus on UI improvements? PS1/PS2 Classics? Suspend/resume? Share improvements? Bug fixes? Optimization? etc, etc.

And while the easy answer is 'all of them'... that's just not how it works in real projects. So my guess is there is a meeting somewhere, and someone says 'let's get those folders working!'... and someone else says 'Yes, that would be nice, but it -works- as is, so let's focus on getting [insert new feature here] working' instead..." and since the lack of folders only really affects a relatively small % of people [those with the largest libraries] any they can technically get by w/o folders, it'll constantly get pushed down the priority list, even though we want it, they want it, everybody wants it.

At least that's how the large projects I've worked often seem to go -- lots of pressure in different directions, and 'nice to haves' always falling to the bottom of the list.

Very well said, thanks :).

Agreed with you so much, people don't think of the truth in the situations.

R1/L1 shifts "pages" to load the things you see on top (like notifications and friends list)

Personally, I'd like this if they removed some of the tiles (too many redundant tiles that could be put elsewhere), and allowed us to pin games/other things instead.

Everything most important to you would be right at your fingertips.
That is great looking yeah. I dont see much problem with the PS4 UI (once you add a custom theme to make it less deadly dull) and think they should prioritize fixing PSN's incredibly unstable servers, but some customization on the UI beyond themes should definitely come after that, yes.

I want to be able to pin tiles, is that too much to ask?

Also, uncompressed PNGs that automatically upload to an online PlayStation site that you can share publicly, so you can see your captures there without having to upload everywhere. Like a Google Drive of sorts.

Gimme that and I am mega happy.

YES they do. There can't be more than one opinion involved in this matter.

There actually can be, because I'm fine with how the UI is designed and responds to me. People talk about wanting folders, and that's fine, but I don't need my PS4 to turn into my cell phone. It'd be nice if they gave you the option to hide demos/betas of games, but other than that, I think it's a great, simple UI that gets me into what I want to play quickly.

Just hook it up with Google Drive. It has APIs just like Youtube Streaming. And it's optional for gamers, and not even on Sony's servers. Win win all over the place.

My top three right now are in no particular order:
- pin items or folders
- larger cloud drive storage
- better friend/group organization

Lower down I want external hard drive and trophy improvements (progression and a better showcase/search/discovery, those images are good looking and the discovery/competition potential is wasted in many games.)

I must say I really love this design. I have nothing against how it is now, could use some improvements. But your mockup is fantastic.

i hope Sony doesnt read this gaf thread, ps4 UI is fast and clean, if they change it, i change Console. There´s a reason Xbox One new UI looks alot like Ps4 but in Vertical , they have Notifications on there, messages just like Ps4, difference is that on Xbox One you can acess that without leaving the game.

The only complain is where the games are, it should allow us to do folders, also apps shouldnt be in that Tv Folder but they should be viewed as games if we want to, friends notifications when online is a must and changing name aswel but Sony PLEASE DO NOT change the UI.

Yeah, you can see the influence of PS4's in the new XB1 UI. The way the tiles are setup and everything.

I think the PS4's interface is fine. They just need to separate games and apps. Needs a major change? Nah. PS4 doesn't have to become a jumble of too much information like XB1.

I don't think anyone is asking for needless complexity. Keep the way the tiles work and allow us to a) remove things we don't want (e.g. Spotify or Media stuff) b) let us pin things so we can prioritize c) folders.

It would still be basically the same, simple UI we have now, just with a few added quality of life features.

I like the simplicity of the current UI but would like a few improvements:

- When you press down on a game and it loads the game's page (with background, music etc) I'd like to be able to cycle between those with R1/L1.

- Be able to pin items to the front of the row/a favourites row

- Take all the system features to the left of What's New (PS Now, PS+, PSN Store, Web Browser, etc.)

- Be able to hide items in the library (demos, Destiny Alpha, etc.)

it looks pretty but i'd have to get a detailed run down of how the navigation works to comment further. :)

I think the whole splash-page with info is cool. But it can absolutely be better.

We need a dedicated "Community" tab. Like activity feed, but better and worth going to look at.

How do we make it worth going to?

-Add PS+ game voting to it
-Add ALL new content for our owned games to it, so it looks like a news feed.

New Rocket League patch? Have a small blurb on it. Info on Black Ops beta? Have a small headline for it with info on how to sign up.

-Add friends' activity-- when they buy a new game that I also own, or when they schedule an event (which seems to be coming in the newest update)

-Show stats like "trending game of the week", "most downloaded game of the month", etc.

Make PSN feel connected and alive.

Please fix your Rest mode, the DS4 won't connect 50% of times. It's frustrating.
Rebuild database? A user should not use this function daily in order to make thing functional, it's a shame.

Sounds like you are having some problems pal. Your controller might be busted. Also, what's making you have to rebuild the database a lot? If you're turning off the PS4 while it's rest mode, stop. I made that mistake and it bugged me for a while before I realized.

Thread summary:

Users: I want A,B,C
Sony: *implements* X,Y,Z
yeah, hopefully someone on twitter says "there's more to the update" so we can give it a rest.

Folders, Pinning or rearranging frequently used apps and Custom backgrounds would hush a lot of the community. Don't have to nail everything in this update, but we need some control over the UI already.

I really hope this update finally fixes my PS4 audio issue, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't.

My surround sound receiver only supports optical, and it only has 1 port. My Samsung TV supports DD 5.1 passthrough from HDMI to optical. However, I cannot get my TV to detect a DD 5.1 audio signal from my PS4, and I've tried changing literally every setting on both the TV and the PS4. I know for a fact that the issue is with the PS4, since my TV can pass DD 5.1 from HDMI to optical perfectly fine with both my Xbox One and PS3. I've tried switching the HDMI cables around of course, but that makes no difference either.

This isn't too big of a deal though, since I own a pair of those Playstation-branded Sony headphones (Silver) that simulate surround sound well enough for my liking (not very comfortable to wear for long periods of time though), and I could just pick up an optical audio switch to work around my problem.

I wish we could get the XMB back. It was so fast and organized and clean.
lots of issues when you had a lot of content though. I used PS3 as a media hub, and you had to go through a lot of manual organizing before it could really shine.

Having said that, it still feels 10x more personal than my PS4 right now just from having a custom background, icons and folders, it's time Sony!

Not to sound ungrateful. I literally just booted up my PS4 and was back within Bloodborne in less than 7 seconds! I mean, resume is great, and everything recent is right there, it's good, it really is. Just need to put those little personal touches on it. Folders, Pinning, Avatar, Backgrounds, Notification options. Almost there Sony, you can do it...

Hm, I found PS3 to be very good with lots of content. Mostly because of folders.

One thing I can't get over on PS4 is how giant all the tiles are. I miss the sleekness of the PS3's icons. I hope Sony considers some kind of size option for the tiles. It'd make backgrounds look so much better.

seems like they just moved a bunch of the icons up top down and turned them into tiles. or vice versa. they didn't really explain their thought process about why some of those things are better in the updated locations though.

i guess having tiles doubled up like that might help limit having to scroll around and have everything just centered on one screen but personally i dunno if you really need the double rows. letting you pin things, limiting the number of tiles to display and consolidating a lot of tiles under a single game library, apps library, etc. would go along way to streamlining things. i guess that's why people want folders so badly.

i'm still curious why they don't use the triggers and bumpers as a short cut to scroll left and right. i don't recall those buttons doing anything at the moment? maybe pulling up the voice command menu? can't remember...

Can I turn off the light on my DS4 that can be seen from outer space?

(I have black tape over it, but it would be nice not to ghetto-fy future controllers)

Well I'd hope so considering how bland and basic it is.

Don't know what more you would want. Game tiles have everything you need for the game in one location (even MS is copying this) press up and there's your friends, messages, trophies etc. Everything is easy and quick to access. The only thing Sony needs to fix is organization. The need to separate everything from that one bar.

People look MS UI's and see how busy it is and compare it PS4's more simple design. We really don't need two consoles with same design philosophy. Differentiation is good.

PS4 could use some more features though.

EDIT-

And get a damn software team in the west!

Are you getting no audio at all or only stereo? HDMI can't pass 5.1 PCM audio through optical so it converts it to stereo PCM. Have you tried changing from PCM audio to Bitstream in the audio settings?

We need a sorting option in Library called "Custom". You could move the tiles around in whatever order you want, create folders, and hide any tiles you want, like uninstalled games and demos.

This is all I pretty much want at this point...

- External USB storage support
- Visualizer options for Media Player
- Themes
- Delete trophies and items from your library

I only get stereo PCM. And yes, switching to Bitstream Dolby was the very first thing I did (that's what I use on both the Xbone and PS3), but it refuses to work. Like I said, I've tried literally every setting, even disabling HDCP on the PS4, but nothing works. :(

i've said it before, and i'll say it again. this is a logistical nightmare that will never ever ever ever happen. perhaps the option to hide things from your library will be an option in the future. full deletion would be a really bad idea

you can already delete games with 0 trophies now.....

Which in reality doesn't affect the servers because there is no info placed on them yet. Now imagine deleting earned trophies and a bug happens and your trophy level goes down but you still have the trophies or other shit like that. I agree with no full deletion, it's just asking for trouble imo.

Make sure when playing a movie (playing) press options and make sure it's set there as well to Dolby.

If you don't it supersedes everything else.

Bitstream: direct,mix or something
