Fang and Vanille...is it canon?

Fang and Vanille, the Sailor Uranus and Neptune of JRPGs, one of the few good things to come out of Final Fantasy XIII.

Are they or aren't they, and why was/is Square so afraid to make it official?

I don't think they were ever clear about it. The incentive for them not confirming one way or the other is that everyone can be satisfied in the ambiguity

I think they were like...members of the same clan and basically saw each other as sisters.

But A LOT of people saw it as something else.

Way to derail your own thread from the very start.

The next 5 pages will be nothing about this absurd Sephiroth characterization

There is literally nothing in the game saying they were in a relationship. This would be a strange thing to hide and only weird fanthings would read this into it.

when they say "we stick together, you hear me" they don't mean their vaginas. it's a common saying among friends going through something.

I mean.. I just assumed they were. Sure it was never admitted outright, but it's very strongly implied, IMO. And
Fang gropes Vanille's boob (or vice versa) in one of the cutscenes
.

I can't stop laughing at this for some reason

I think Squeenix would of stated something implicitly that they were together. Squeenix have been pretty direct about relationships of characters in the past games. It just seems like fan headcanon.

At this point, what's the difference between sisterly love and romantic love, as far as people being able to tell them apart? Can you make two non-familial characters share the former without people thinking it's the latter?

Really? They confirm same sex relationships all the time? Where have I been... Please point me to those games. I seriously need to know.

Could go either way (heh). I honesty don't know. A part of me totally thinks so, while another part of me remembers that Frodo and Sam in Lord of the Rings were totally "just friends" as well....

I never got anything other than they were really good friends. Not blood sisters but sisters in that sense. Like Sam and Frodo. I don't think there is anything suggestive of hugs and "sticking together no matter what". Holding hands in their crystal state etc...just very close friends.

The difference is the lust in their eyes.

It's more of a big sister relationship tbh but amped up to be mega anime. Not enough touchy/feely type Yuri hints in there.

Lol'd at Sephiroth being gay though, the only thing he's gay for is himself.
