It seems you can skip the 9-day delay if you play enough, I unlocked all games, all levels and almost all items just tonight. I uploaded already 6 levels!

I was wondering if you could check all your uploads without losing a lot of time with the game menus... and you can! I just opened my Miiverse posts with my desktop browser and all my levels are there. Here they are!

Amazon had it for $50. I'll save $10 and play a bit later. Except I'm going to work, so I won't play until tomorrow night either way.

And mine will arrive tomorrow.

You'll probably get it tomorrow. Yes, they generally have very good shipping but the only real guarantee from Amazon is they'll make it right if you don't.

Anyways, I have the day off and a 100% chance of playing a physical copy which I'll be playing all day. :) I will say though, I was actually tempted to go digital this time. Oh well, time to chill with a gin and tonic and an episode of MST3K before bed.

Is there anyway to make an enemy chase you to simulate Phanto?

Do you have any control on the path enemies will follow, or do they mostly act with pre-set A.I. and move to the left?

The only way they chase you is if they're in a Koopa Clown Car(even powerups and yoshi eggs!) or a Lakitu Cloud in some cases. Certain enemies chase you underwater like Goombas, or angry Wigglers which underwater are really dangerous.

They have pre-set A.I. but some variations act differently. For example, a green koopa with wings will jump around, and a red koopa with wings will fly up and down a straight line

put an enemy in a clown car and it will follow you. homing missiles and kamek (kinda) also follow you. that's about it for enemies that chase you in some way, i think.

unfortunately, no ai control. that would have been a great addition, for sure. at least let me pick a path for objects i've put wings on, i really wanted that for my last level

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Can you set Wiggler to begin in red?

I was thinking of a level where (if this is possible) Wiggler is carrying a spring on its back, and you gotta chase it to the end of the level and use the spring to clear a wall before Wiggler walks off a cliff.

Beat SMW, man is that game easy.

I suck at Mario now. :(

Super Mario World was pretty easy, till I reached like...that one level with the Underwater Fortress.

Yeah you can do that. Just shake Wiggler until it turns red.

No offense but I'll never understand you people who want to play AAA games and systems day one so badly yet risk pointless shipping games ordering from places like Amazon instead of just going to the store occasionally.

Cool, thanks.
Because amazon gave me 48 dollars for bitching which I used to buy it for 5 and some change.

Still hadn't shipped it though.

deleted and reuploaded 'the other side' after noticing a small mistake

new code for it is: 8AE7-0000-0012-70DA

feedback is appreciated! i'd say it's mildly challenging but still very fair. if i can beat it on the first try, you can, too!

Guess NOA is going to wait until the last min to turn the servers on.

Mine actually arrived today, a first for me with any game. I already went through messing with the date and ran the 10 Mario challenge enough to unlock everything.

I have a few rough outlines of levels started, but I had to stop so the gamepad could re-charge itself :/

So wait, anyone know if Best Buy's pin offer for this game means you have to just have preordered qualifying games, or do they all have to be in that order? Trying to last minute decide how to approach this, since I already have Happy Home Designer preordered and I'd prefer to leave the rest of my un-preordered games more fluid for if I need to tag things to amiibo orders for free shipping or whatever...

SMB 3 is indeed hard. Try beating it without warp whistles, do World 8 airship with no P-Wing and no damage run on Bowser's castle then you'll see how hard it is.

Ya hear that, Bezos? Keep cracking the whip on your call center zombies and warehouse meat bags, at least someone is smiling because they were able to browbeat a rep into free money!

Still hadn't shipped it though.

Yep.

I think people asking for more features are missing the point of Mario Maker. As a game maker you are always limited by your tools in some way. That's where the creativity comes into play. Milking the most out of your tools... it's rewarding. Minecraft taught me that. They added more, and to me it felt like less. I liked figuring out innovative ways to accomplish design challenges.

Why not enjoy what you have? Nintendo is giving us a peak into the Chocolate Factory. Let's not be the spoiled kids sent off by the oompa loompas, but appreciate the intricate simplicity of Nintendo magic being offered.

My theory on the whole 9 day fiasco is that it's supposed to mirror their development process on a microscopic scale. It's a shame they went back on their intial design philosophy, even though I appreciate that they did--as I for one understand the process and don't need my hand held. As I'm sure they realized others did not need such limitations either.

I'm sure DLC will come and add in some missing features, but for now... Why not just enjoy the tools you have? Seem plenty robust to me. If you are worried about limited replay value... perhaps you just haven't brainstormed enough.

Not saying any of you are wrong, and I absolutely understand your gripes and disappointment, but I for one am getting my childhood dream fulfilled. As far as I'm concerned, my heart is soaring on a Lakitu cloud.

Should I go to Walmart at midnight to buy this or wait until the morning? Talk me into a poor life decision, GAF.

Just finished a very short level. Can't upload since NOA.

Made a gif of the beginning of it:
https://j.gifs.com/yaY1ZQ.gif

The entire level is about 37 seconds long if you run through it with no mistakes. Very short. For the difficulty I was aiming for, I didn't want something extremely long...at least, not yet ;)

Just wanted to see what I could come up with. Looking forward to all of yours as soon as the servers are up.

Buy it digitally so you can play in an hour.

I used one of my vacation days to take tomorrow off. stay up late with GAF tonight...

How early you gotta be up? I'd say wait if you can't comfortably sink a couple hours into it without being dead in the morning.
I don't have to be into work until noon tomorrow! But I'm going out at 9 for a stupid freaking amiibo hunt :(

Digitally?? But the boxart is so nice, and I'm far too lazy to order the art book separately! It's always great to hear of other people who take off days for video game launches, though :D

Haha, I'll upload it for sure.

I may have to rework the rest of the level....just for you ;)

I'm glad there are others out there like myself that enjoy the punishment. I like to thank Super Meat Boy and N+ for that.

Set the timer to 40 seconds, just to be even more evil.

It was hard when I was a kid, but I got it for Wii VC after like a decade and a half of not playing it and I 100% the game without warps with little trouble. Only really hard level is that World 8 airship level. Still harder than SMW. About on par with NSMBWii and NSMBU. The levels are super short.

Mario World is a cakewalk compared to Mario 3 in my honest opinion. Mario World is a fantastic game but it hands out 1-ups like Oprah handing out cars, and the Top Secret Area basically breaks the game since it's a free Yoshi and power-ups spot.

I like how short and to the point levels of SMB3 are. Super Luigi U reminds me a lot of SMB3 in that regard.

Just heard from my IRL Nintendo fan friend that GameStop is doing a midnight launch of Super Mario Maker and Amiibo. So yeah...

1ups aren't the problem; lives are just an outdated holdover from the arcade days.

The cape and yoshi break most of the game, but the levels aren't all that difficult without them. You can re-enter any level to stock up on powerups and pause to exit without penalty. Plus it has a lower amount of levels than SMB3 and the NSMB games.

I'm still waiting to pick up my Best Buy pre-order but am thinking about hitting up Walmart tonight to try and get an 8-bit Mario Amiibo before the rush tomorrow. Does Walmart stock new Amiibos at midnight or is that an item they consistently launch during the day?
