I finally managed to actually make a level. It's pretty short and simple, but I'm happy with it.

Trampoline Trouble:
AC79-0000-0016-1322

I didn't want to make a level with awkward trampoline jumps over pits, so I made awkward trampoline jumps over piranha plants instead.

Wow, got home around 12:30, created levels non-stop until now (20:30). I'm playing with the basic setup, no time tricks, must eat or pass out, this is gonna be huge. So excited about the levels people are going to create. Speechless.

Oh god, just did 100 Mario challenge on normal mode. I guess all the random designers are thinking pixel perfect jumps and a "no way to succeed unless you fail first" mentality is fun. Gah.

I've made 2 courses if anyone wants to check 'em out. The first one, Tramapoline! is just my 1st course with the basic set. The second, Get The Hint! actually involved some effort. They're easier/fairish but you do have to use your head for Get the Hint! which I'm pretty happy with. You may die but only because you weren't paying attention, instead of insanely cheap deaths.

Jump, jump, jump! 6071-0000-0015-A740
Simple, but I enjoyed making it.

neat little stage and perfect for the 'easy' 100 mario challenge. and we definitely need more quality stages for that difficulty level!

My first course ID: 7743-0000-0015-7FC9.
Pretty short and I still only have the first tools available, but I tried to at least give some room for failure.

(I want to finally be able to make SMW levels!!)

i agree with what has been said, definitely lay some blocks down to connect the pipes to. my other suggestion would be to put down some coins, especially in the second half, indicating a path to follow to take the uncertainty out of the jumps. last thing i would note is that the timing of the koopas seemed a bit wonky to me, maybe put the second tower a bit lower?

Sunken Airship

ID: 2053 0000 0012 5786

really nice theme and execution, the water sections i found especially evocative!

Ohhhh to go get the game at Best Buy or not... Shit I have a $15 coupon and GCU, I think I've answered my question.

Can't wait to try some of GAFs levels!

My friend says his game is showing version 1.0.1 but he got a notification saying his next unlock is tomorrow. Any idea on what went wrong?

I don't think I've been as excited for this game than when I was looking through the book that comes with it. Can't wait to dig into it later.

Just finished up what I think is a pretty fun, if not somewhat difficult level:

Ship Brigade Battle!
4C0D-0000-0015-D105

Also, I'm streaming this for about 12 hours today if anyone feels like stopping in and saying hello, watching me fail at expert 100 Mario mode and create random levels:

Watching this stream. The "expert" levels are just unfair. They seem to be the furthest thing from fun, really. Such a shame.

TIME has a short article on SMM.
Here
Apparently Tezuka talks about creating a tool to create sounds for the game:

"There isn’t any way to create music in the game, but we do have some ideas and plans around ways to play with music in the game,” says Tezuka. “We haven’t talked about this publicly yet, but there is a mode that we’re preparing that will allow you to play with sounds and things like that.”"

Apparently, NOA, in their infinite wisdom, forgot to change the message.

This also basically confirms future game updates as well. A music maker would be awesome.

Got the game finally. Already made a relatively average difficulty level:

Mario's Cave Adventure by Björn
Course ID: C9F1-0000-0016-4478

Check it out, I made that in, like, 30 minutes or so. Was pretty fun. I'll probably go back to it and update it once I unlocked more items to use.

Just picked it up at Gamestop, cashier tried to justify pre ordering when I asked about the posters.

Also got the 30th anniversary Amiibo. Can't wait to try it out soon!!

pretty sure that's impossible, the game always says 'the [next] set will be available soon'. if he continues to use all the items in various ways in the editor, he will have that set unlocked 10-15 minutes after he gets the notification that it's arriving "soon"

wait, really? lol

We need a thread where we post all of GAF's favorite levels in the first post and have it constantly updated. Not sure how that would work but it would be great to find them all in one place. I suppose just submit what you think is your best level? But need some quality control.

Also, jelly my copy won't arrive till Monday. Ugh.

This is my second level, difficulty is about easy to medium, with hidden stuff around and shortcuts. Trying to keep it somewhat 'official' feeling as in, no unexpected enemies behaving in weird ways, mainly just typical stuff. Compared to the earlier level, its fairly longer.

Nice level mate ;) I found the door too, lol. I love these kind of levels so keep'em coming!

My first level is kinda similar (not very difficult, some secrets and several ways to reach the end). Try it and give some feedback if you want!

Two Ways: 7B52-0000-0015-7472.

Just started playing the game, interface is so great, hoping to have two decent levels uploaded later. Here is my launch swag along side the full E3 sprite pin portfolio and I was also able to score one of the Gold Mario 30th Anniversary pins which were only given out on stage at the NWC competition, will look really nice on my shelf next to the game:

For the costume unlocks, using the amiibo once lets you put the character in the game whenever you want.

For the big mushroom you get with the classic Mario amiibo, it seems out have to touch the amiibo to the gamepad whenever you want to use it.

Am I doing something wrong, or is it the same for you guys?

How do you change the stylus hand? I missed what it was when the prompt appeared. Left stick plus?

Also I just unlocked all course elements, what are the blanks in the bottom row of items for?

Watching this stream. The "expert" levels are just unfair. They seem to be the furthest thing from fun, really. Such a shame.

It really was a weird change of pace, both "Easy" and "Normal" stages were mostly "Walk 10 feet to the flagpole, get a bunch of 1-Ups in the process" stages, and then all of a sudden, bam. Every level is tough as nails. Would like to see more levels that are just fun platforming levels.

Yeah, I'd be down for a thread like that as well, it'd be nice to have a list of decent levels GAFfers have made.

There are courses everywhere and I shall give them a shot, but here are my current ones right now:

Turtle Town:
92E8-0000-0015-D172

The Thirst of Kings:
1926-0000-0016-2957

Turtle Town is simple fun. The Thirst for Kings is my Dumb silly one- I personally find it exciting, but maybe that's just me.

"I DARE YOU TO WIN"

Been working on this level since 8am, had it all meticulously planned out before I got the game and everything but I needed to wait for all the delivery trucks. Needless to say I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH!!! 8 year old me would be going nuts about getting to make my own Super Mario world levels.

Also heres hint to help you with my level: don't overthink it. I tried not being cheap with level design and I think I made a fair, albeit extremely difficult level. It's actually pretty simple, although the I admit I'm surprised I beat it myself. Anyone else have any cool levels? I'm in the mood to play haha

2. Jr's Water Park by Kinsei (ID: EABD-0000-0014-D904)

This wonderfully creative stage manages to build up a sense of place and a sense of cohesiveness like few others do. The change-up between castle and water theme is pulled off very well, and some of the enemy patterns are among the most interesting I've seen in any water level. Usually, a high level of creativity sends the difficulty curve flying in all sorts of directions, but not here! A very fun ride, indeed.

This was a fantastic level. Maybe a little too chaotic wih thegoombas in the water section, but it was really tense and heart stopping at times. Love the back and forth too, really fleshes it out and gives it a feeling of space.

Made my second level

Pesca 1-2 (2796-0000-0016-2B01)

I'm trying to make regular worlds instead of wacky things right now. I've hidden the Mega Mushroom in both of my stages so far though.

I want to make a set of eight or so levels with increasing difficulty using at least one of each theme. I think my second stage might actually be too hard for a 1-2.

I just want to say y'all making me THIRSTY for SMM. I can't get it until next week and I HATE IT.

Can't wait to GAF it up with y'all. I'm ass with level editors but I may work on something. I think it's awesome that everyone could make their own "world" of levels for other people to play.

DeathoftheEndless

Crashing this plane... with no survivors!
I looked for the 8-bit amiibo, came up empty. If more become available, I'll get one. Not paying $30 for it.

I'll play some of your guys' levels this weekend, but I can't login to GAF from my home computer, so I won't post anything until next week.

Just got the underwater theme. In general I'm a rabid defender of water levels in games, but to be honest I had a very hard time coming up with anything remotely interesting or fun for a Mario water level. I think I've finally got something, though, so stay tuned.
