i've gotten a few suggestions for the community showcase so far, gonna knock them out later

if you have played a great gaffer level and wanna nominate that person's level for the community showcase, please shoot me a pm and i will definitely give it a shot

I went forth and did exactly that. Just put your username and one level.

Only one level is enough. The purpose is to allow you the other gaffers to find you, follow you and get to see your other levels too.

Don't have a screen shot, but would like it if you guys gave it a try. It's a classic Super Mario World style level, no unfair stuff. Some secrets of course and a hidden, optional speed running route (not an alternative route).

4657-0000-0031-4B52

go to your miiverse page, copy the image url and post it here.

Can you make slopes yet?

Still no and will remain no unless they do a content update which they have made no mentions of.

Reposting this level because I am pretty happy with it and I'd like to see more plays on it.

This is an abandoned house themed level that starts out at a balcony going in. This theme comes from realizing how to make windows and basing an entire level around that discovery, and then adding vines for extra decoration and gameplay.

Alright guys, this puzzle level is still undefeated on GAF. Who's going to beat it? Play it (and star it if you don't want this kitten in my hand to die) and I'll play (and star so the kitten in your hand doesn't die) all your levels. (PM me them.)

Also, this level may just break your brain.

Just sayin'! Oh, and feel free to check out my older levels from my profile.

Does anyone know the medal tiers? Like how many stars you need for each medal? I just hit 100 and... disappointingly... no medal!

Guys, am I crazy, or are the music note boxes inconsistent as to when they actually work?

In testing a level yesterday, I would jump on a note box, only to not actually jump high into the air but simply bounce off into a pit (this was while in Super Mario Bros. mode)

I'm not going "I'm an expert" here or anything, but I've been playing Mario games for 25+ years and never had an issue playing Mario 3 before.

Just me?

I did put quite a lot of time and effort into it, so I'd really appreciate you guys giving it a go. Feedback welcome. It's quite challenging in parts and could benefit from a checkpoint, but hopefully never unfair.

I've played it but didn't have the will to finish it. Too punishing for me. The part with the chain stomps is not fun. It's all too cramped IMO. I liked the small spikey puzzle though.

My newest (and possibly best and hardest) level is out now if anyone wants a try. It's a boss level and it's called 'The Three Tiers of Fear'

Just made what's probably my funnest level yet. Full of chaos and bounciness.

SUPER HAPPY FUN BOUNCY CAR TIME!

It started off as one of the pre-loaded levels on the title screen, so it begins a tad unfocused but I learned a lot from the experience. For example, all the chaos I put in lead to a lot of happy accidents, like the enemies bouncing into the clown cars on their own. That lead to a big part of the level's theme.

I designed it so you can tackle it in various ways. Who knows, maybe you can even cheat your way to end! Let me know what you think.

Just gonna not so subtly suggest you guys try out the Ghost House my girlfriend and I made the other night. We are pretty proud of it and seems to be enjoyed by quite a few people who have played it (even if only 13% can beat it). Let me know what you guys think and give me any constructive criticism you can so we can utilize it for the sequel :)

My levels really need some love/feedback so I'll repost them.

Level 1: Use koopa shells to make a path to the exit. There's a hidden path to get the best ending.

Level 2: Explore the beautiful (I guess?) Goomba City. It's challenging.

Player the Level yesterday too, and I also got stuck at the chain stumps everytime. I think that Part needs to be reworked. Up to that it is a really fun Level, challenging but fair

If it makes you feel any better, the chain chomps and the falling platforms straight after it are the hardest parts. I found going up the middle of the chain chomps gave me fairly consistent success, patience permitting!

On Note Blocks, you have to press Jump while you are ON the block, when it's going down. Not before, not after.

When you edit a stage and reupload it, does it keep the same code or is it assigned a new one?

When you edit an existing stage and upload it, it becomes a new stage, thus is a new code. The old one will still be there. You have to delete the old one.

I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing.

You have area 1 (main level) and area 2 (sub level)

You can have multiple pipes that lead from area 1 to area 2 and vice versa. A pipe in area 1 can't exit in area 1, and a door in area 1 can only exit in area 1.

You should be able to drag Mario onto a second pipe in area 2, and it will bring up area 1 and ask you to place the exit pipe. Once you do that you should have two pipes in area 1 that lead to two other pipes in area 2.

That was exactly what I was talking about, but when I tried it did not work, the second I made the second set
of pipes, the first set doesn't work anymore.

A couple of fun levels I made over the weekend. I tried for three different styles. The first is a variation on an auto player, where you just need to hold left and the dash button. The second is for a challenge to make a level with no enemies. And the third is my attempt at telling a story through the level (about an on rails level ruined by a pesky Thwomp).

I've been making levels for my 3 year old just to give her some experience (she's super into it I'm not thrusting the controller into her hands) on a gentle learning curve. I'm trying to hit the Mario basics.
-move to the right
-Jump onto/over obstacles
-? blocks are great
-Never Not Run (having trouble with this one as tiny hands make run/move/jump tough)
-Most enemies can be jumped on
-Press down to enter pipes
-Hold the jump button to jump higher

Is there anything I'm missing? I'm integrating the different tile sets (underwater/castle/airship with auto scroll) as they become available in the same kind of Tutorial style where the level is supposed to teach the needed skill. I'm going easy on enemies and gaps till she gets a handle on the skills.

Right.

Now I'm thinking it might be my gamepad.

Or your TV if it has a fair amount of delay like most HDTVs do. I usually prefer to just look at the GamePad screen since it updates faster than my TV. My PC's monitor is far better for gaming for this reason, but too small of a screen...

EDIT: Do you have a pro controller to use with your TV to test out if the issue is your GamePad? Playing with just the GamePad is really nice for Mario Maker though and I often find myself holding it right in front of my eyes in intense levels.

It's a simple underwater level where you're Ness and need to use stars to proceed. Don't think it's too hard.

My second level ever, so not great, but I think it's fun. :)

edit: my first time in this thread, I'll add other people on tomorrow or the next day.

There are certainly a lot of sadistic level designers out there. The six levels I've created so far are meant to be enjoyable courses that wouldn't feel out of place in SMB1. I wonder if that's going to be appreciated at all as 'advanced tech' is discovered.

I have played for 3 days (just a little bit each day) including saving a couple of throw away courses and completed the first 2 10 Mario challenge.

But I am not seeing more tools to use and my themes are still limited to SMB and NSMBU - no SMB3 or SMBW.

Any idea what the secret is to opening that stuff up? More 10 mario challenges? Is it on a per-block thing?

Thanks.

At work, very agitated that I cannot do a follow up check on how many people played my courses and their current star and clear rate.

Damnit. This game needs a web app.

My problem is my levels are too busy. I get worried they'll be boring if they're not. I need to find the balance between ease and adding difficulty inside navigating.

I look forward to seeing what GAF folk can do.

I got stuck after I got the mushroom and quit. There was no other way to break the blocks to get back.

I don't have the game yet, how are the user created levels so far? Are they actually fun or is everyone trying to be an asshole to create the most annoying level possible?

Just beat it in 10 attempts. It's a pretty fiendish level! All of the hazards are really well conceived, perfectly placed, and require strategy to defeat. My favorite was the koopa section. Only annoying part is having to "bunny hop" multiple times toward the beginning on each playthrough. Maybe it's me, but I always feel cramped having to do that.

In any case, great job, I gave you a Star. Check out my course (3936-0000-0031-C411) if you're looking for another tough, but fair challenge.

The ones I've played by GAFers are excellent. For random normal and expert levels, most are mediocre, some are awful, and a few will be great.

Haha I know! Wait, you haven't had a chance to get your hands on the game yet??

Oh, no, we have! We've been playing it since Friday and I'm in the airport right now waiting to take a trip that will last till next Friday. If you look up my posts in this thread, you can see a few rudimentary but hopefully increasingly decent levels I've made. :)

I've watched the Giant Bomb quick look and I may get this sooner than I orginally planned, it looks like a blast. The creator looks so simple to use that I might even try to create levels, instead of just playing others like I first planned.

One question though: the quick look and other videos don't show or mention the 60 or so developer levels, made by Michel Ancel and more. Is that in a seperate category somewhere? tbh that'd be my main reason to get it.

My first time posting in MM thread; please try out my latest level and tell me what you think!
