Sorry for posting this again, but I think it got understandably overlooked in the torrent of levels recently and I'd be grateful for some feedback:

I think this is easily the best of the levels I've made so far - I've shown it to a few friends and they agree. I'm trying to figure out if I should refine it further or if it's fine as is.
 
Firstly, I loved the outside of the house and the way it rewarded me for exploring and taking a leap of faith. The atmosphere of the outside is great and feels like a haunted house should.

Then I got really frustrated in the Piranha Plant room as I died lots of times (maybe I'm just crap at this room) - I kept hitting the first plant and/or getting hit by a fireball when climbing. After that however, it was a fun, well designed level.

One thing I would say is that it's a very fine line between frustrating and challenging and the plant room nearly did it for me. Overall though, a great effort!

Well, thanks for playing. I really did try to get a good atmosphere going throughout.

I made the piranha plant room more difficult than the others because it was the first room, but maybe I'll make that one big plant in there smaller. That might solve some issues because the jump over it IS kinda tough.

apparently the only levels possible are "ZOMG STAR POWER ONE THOUSAND ENEMIES" and "I made this while drunk and high"

I'll go through GAFs levels tomorrow, and post my own.

Press home

Tap the internet button thing

Navigate to imgur

Thanks guys, though now I seem to be having an issue where the ID number for levels doesn't display next to where it says "ID". This is the case for my levels and other people's. What's going on?

New level. I'm pretty proud of this one from an atmospheric standpoint and think the boss is pretty good. Would love any feedback!

I think the most enjoyment I'll get out of 100 Mario challenge will involve this bingo card and alcohol.

1) Making levels with Amiibo characters in which the character has no relevance to the level other than "Hey I made a level where you're Kirby"

2) Thinking that making SMB1 swimming levels which have you swimming among really tight passages lined with spikes is fun.

3) Making a level where the first thing that happens is an enemy falls on your head.

4) Making a level where you go through a door and fall to your doom.

Feel free to add to this list.

Looks like GAF is getting pretty advanced already... I have a newbie question.

What's the best way to give a player a Spiny or Beetle hat, aside from putting it right above Mario's head at the spawn point? If you put them in blocks, they just become shells you can kick... Doesn't seem like you can make them function like a power-up.

In SMB3, SMW and NSMBU you can put it on a ? block and have the player pick it up (Yes, even the spiny), once they have it in their hands pressing down makes them wear the helmet.

I wanted something in the SMB1 style that felt very un-SMB1, so this is a "vertical" air ship stage, to the extent that the game can let you disguise sub-areas as multiple segments, anyway.

It's probably too difficult for the average player, but I tried to at least keep the difficulty to precision platforming and not bullshit trolls. You can either see or react to pretty much everything that's coming.

I'll take a look at some of the other courses posted over dinner.

I liked your course a lot, I didn't finish it but I did put it to try again later. I had a LOT of trouble at the part with the flying spiny because each time I would get there it would spawn him in a new area and sometimes, 2 or 3 at once making it real difficult to get around it, I finally once got passed it and then died on the fire rod lol.

5) unwinnable fail states that force you to restart. getting stuck by invisible question blocks is not fun

What I do is press Home, go to miiverse, save to screenshot album, and then go to http://miiverse.nintendo.net on a computer to access my album, copy/paste.

Same basic thing.

Hahaha. With how horrible my level making design is I'm not sure I'll ever get a single play (am far from creating anything upload worthy at this point). I have an idea for a level though, I was wondering if you all think the word "Genocide" would be allowed in a level title?

A Sonic - themed level, I tried to adhere to the design mindset of having multiple paths that lead to different secrets, encouraging multiple playthroughs. I also attempted to throw in moments that rely on momentum, ala the classics. There are also a couple of shout outs to the Sonic series in general for people to find.

Any and all feedback is appreciated!

I think I would try to go for any other synonym outside of "holocaust." Unless the title happens to be alliterative

Played it, cleared it. I thought it was fun! Something absurd about those flowers bouncing up and down. Whilst it was harder than you might think to time the jumps over the flowers the level was short and had generous power-ups so I don't know why people aren't beating it. I guess there are a lot of shit players out there!

You have to go through a lot of dirt to find the diamonds. Playing through the 100 Mario Challenge I started to understand why Miyamoto was so reluctant to give the masses his tool kit, but then you play some gems on the highly rated list that make it all worthwhile.

That 10% of gems is worth waddling thru the 90% of garbage through! Luckily this thread helps find good levels quickly too.
 
Easier!? Is the harder version still uploaded? I died a ton and never finished this one. I saved it to take another stab at it tomorrow though!

I got a little lost at the fire flower because the jump to where the Lakitu is difficult to do when all the Goomba are dead so I wasn't sure if it was the right way. One of those things that you do once then realise the mistake though.

Haha those are some amateurs! Make that two completions :) That's the first gaffer level I've played and if they're all that good I'm in for a treat. I died 5 or so times at the beginning but once I had that figured out it was smooth sailing. Nice work man, great difficulty level

Yeah, some levels are just downright terrible.

My level has 1 Star and has been played 10 times, completed 10 times as you can't die in it.


I will not make a 2nd Level until I feel like I have surpassed that level...but then I look at 100-Mario Challenge and realise that I need to make "LOL OMG SO CLUTTERED" levels with Stupid Difficulty to get more stars.
 
I posted a course here a few days ago, but it was overlooked, though that's understandable in a thread this big.

I decided it was too hard though, so I revised a particular section to be a bit easier. And then I created a second version of the level altogether that was easier in general. Though it's still challenging.

So now there are two levels, and I'd be eager to hear some thoughts!

Here's Planet 1-2! Very happy with it! Some fun parts with 3 outside the box puzzles to solve. Still inspired by Mario Galaxy.

There is a lot missing. But that's because Mario games have soooooo much stuff in them to begin with. Consider how long it took this game to come out, and then consider how much longer we'd have to wait if they were to include everything (if it would even be possible).

Yeah, it's possible to include a few more things, and it's possible that certain things might come with DLC. But there will always be something missing. So be realistic. What we got is pretty great.

Oh for damn sure, and it's one absolutely fantastic game. I am hooked to it, ever since it launched i haven't played on my Xbox One, so that's saying something. Just when you think you are done for a while making a level, you think of new ideas or you just play a few stages for inspiration. I've now made 6 levels in total and the one i am making now is incredibly different than all those, lovely.

I hadn't unlocked everything by the time I started this so I decided to make a level built around pipes and piranha plants. There's one bit I feel is a bit "ROM hack-y" near the middle but it's my first so... Give it a go!

I look forward to any feedback, and might go back for a revision later on.

Not at all a platforming/normal level. More just a random attempt at telling a story, so it should be super easy.

*I made a basic/short ass level that has a 20% completion rate somehow. :|

Yeah I can see how that bit would be confusing. You're supposed to bounce on and past the goombas, fall and veer back to get the flower, kill the plant and get back up to the top, break the blocks to find the hole, use the fire power to kill any spinies that drop down, jump through the hole and proceed.

Reading that back .... Jesus! Needs simplifying .

So GAF, can you review my level? I posted it earlier in the thread, but I'd like to know the general opinion of the stage.

it currently has a less than 2% completion rate last time I checked and been played by about 500+ people.

I purposely made it difficult, but it really is easy one you got the timing down.
