Rumor: New Warcraft title incoming?

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

It is preety obvious it will be wc3 updated for battle.net.

I mean we found some assets for this game on the bnet launcher several months ago.

I wonder what happened to the game Mike Booth was directing a Blizzard. He left earlier this Summer because it "wasn't a good fit" after working there for about 2 years.

Just out of curiosity, are there any RTS games with Starcraft-esque scale that don't use a lockstep simulation? Non-determinism seems like it would be incredibly messy in such scenarios.

I don't think there are any RTS left that have a remarkable competitive scene. MOBAs don't use lockstep sync though, except HeroTS where it is annoying.

10 units + a couple dozen creeps for which accuracy doesn't matter that much versus hundreds or thousands of units is a huge difference though. I agree it's a bad match for a MOBA game.

Online only RTS that's been slowed down to allow for future console release. Features unlocks for Hearthstone and whatever Bliz's moba is called these days. Released in 3 parts across 2 years. Persistent hero progression. Ladder support. Achievements and unlocks that'll keep you busy for years. Skin support via a cash shop. Easter eggs featuring every other Blizzard franchise. No new race. Incorporates WoW lore and ties into whichever WoW Xpac is following it.

What did I miss?

I like to see how they build a f2p RTS, a f2p warcraft 3 remake could revitalize competitive RTS.

I don't see them releasing anything but f2p games from now on. Diablo/Wow expansions aside.

If they make warcraft 4 then I think they will focus even more on heroes like they did on 3.
Also probably preparing for inevitable world of warcraft 2 lore.

Oh man, I know that the odds of Warcraft 4 being announced are next to nil, at least in the next lil while mostly due to the main RTS team just finishing up with Legacy, but damn would it be sick. That Warcraft 3 update or b.net version sounds pretty likely. Either way, just keep the RTS's coming Blizzard.

Well after From Software been working on EVERY GAME AT TH SAME TIME AND PROBABLY LIKE 2 MORE RIGHT NOW THAT HAVEN'T BEEN ANNOUNCED it wouldn't surprise me if the RTS team has been working on some foundations for the next thing while the Legacy of The Void development nears its end

A warcraft remake with better graphics and a better match making system is all I ever want out of blizzard. Get rid of that absolutely pathetic ranking system near the end of its lifetime where all you had to do was play mass games and you'd reach level 50.

I remember when shitters couldn't even get past level 20, and getting to level 25+ meant you were pretty godlike at the game. Update some graphics, make some balance changes so humans aren't literally the most goddamn boring race to play and it's golden.

but modern blizzard will fall flat on its face.

I'm not sure we're ever getting a Warcraft 4. They said something about adding a story mode to Heroes of The Storm and, unless they spin a stupid narrative fitting the setting, I could see them using the assets they build for Warcraft and Starcraft stories going forward.

A la the adventures for Hearthstone

WC3 with widescreen and proper framerates would be nice.

they patched WC3 for widescreen full hd support

Edit: They patched it? Huh, when? I tried it a year or two ago and it was still the same old WC3.

Warcraft Triology Remakes using the SC2 engine! (Yeah yeah, it's not that they have another modern RTS engine ready)

After WoW ... i doubt that Warcraft has any story left, that hasn't been abused by the MMO.
A possible Warcraft 4 is either something new, new world, new chars, new story ... or a real ly ugly abomination of story forced into the wasteland leftovers that is Warcraft...

it's great. Do you really trust modern blizzard to make a sequel that isn't an absolute disgrace? I just hope they don't try to change too much with the base game.

D3 RoS is a great game and I enjoyed both SC2 campaigns and I'm looking forward to LotV, especially as a Protoss player.

They've certainly lost their way in a lot of aspects but they can still design great games.

You're going to have a very hard... rest of time.

Serious question: what do you think Blizzard's next Warcraft related game will be? WoW 2? A game in a totally different genre?

I can completely imagine them abandoning the RTS portion of the franchise (Starcraft AND Warcraft is simply too much RTS for this marketplace from a single company), but I cannot imagine them letting the Warcraft universe they have going on just sort of dwindle away. New Warcraft related stuff will be coming.

Warcraft 4 could start from somewhere in the middle of WoW. I think that would be okay. I also wouldn't mind seeing WC3 re-release. I'm not the biggest warcraft fan but I liked WC3 and I love hearthstone. I played WoW for a few years and like 2-3 expansions as well. So good news for 2020 when the game is actually released (assuming the news is true).
