Super Mario Maker |OT| Miyamoto Simulator 2015

Cool level and good design. Bombing open crates was fun. Only issue I had was I got stuck in one area and had to start over, and I spent time bombing crates for the goal like to be a screen away. Thematically it's cool to have these crates with power ups but it makes me feel bad I spent the time opening and no time to use it. I really liked the airship theme though, and it wasn't overly difficult.

I saw your miiverse comment. Really sorry about that. I playtest the shit outta my levels for stuff like that but I missed it and looking at it now it just seems like a stupid oversight on my part.

The bombing the crates I feel is a mixed bag going by responses. It seems like its fun (going by comments) but I can't really provide a good incentive to do it :( Power ups were mainly to ease difficult sections but I see what you mean about it seeming pointless. Back to the drawing board.

Not a good level to try after a bottle of wine, easy it was not! Made it in the end but boy did I curse aloud at the spikey bit, just couldn't get the rhythm. Great level though, have a star.

I will say that a few times the Thwomps decided to drop into the abyss for no apparent reason, making the level impossible. Luckily this happened rarely but wonder what triggered it.

I'm not a fan of incredibly long levels because of the lack of checkpoints. I've tried to make my levels as compact and tight as possible with what I feel is appropriate difficulty for their length.

Your p block level was very difficult to me, you have a very strict window to do a jump and you have no time to do it. The timing of kt was excessively strict, and there was no direction what to do so I had to die ten times before I figured out what to do. Also had no idea how to pass the last area properly. Good level though, definitely wouldn't want to do it again lol.

Very nice level with some original platforming sections using moving platforms presented in really fun ways. The track layout allows you to see the incoming obstacles and plan your reaction, while in the faster parts where more reflexes are needed the coins will guide you perfectly. It´s great when you can trust the designer and see Mario do some cool stuff.

The last part uses checkpoints in a simple and efficient way, so you really feel like giving it as many tries as necessary to beat it.

The only flaw I could see in the level is the last red Wiggler takes too long to come back if you miss it, maybe you could add another one?

This is one of those few levels in SMM that you feel that were designed for you to have fun in it while being challenged time after time, I loved it!

Cheeps' Frozen Cove

This is a remix of "Cheep-Cheep saved my life" (another great level by the same author). It´s a bit short, but the main mechanic (using Cheep-Cheeps to bounce and jump over obstacles) is well presented and used. The level starts with a slow platforming section while you grasp the main mechanics (Cheep-Cheeps and ice platforms), then presents the first challenge and accelerates. Then it stops as you have to use the Cheeps to get to a higher platform, only to accelerate again for the great finale. The pacing is just perfect, alternating these moments of slow and fast platforming, giving you time to experiment and then throwing a challenge with what you´ve just used.

One minor flaw is that the last bounce before the final platform requires you to stop and aim, which is impossible to do the first time as the Cheeps are pushing you to go full speed. It would be nice to have some coins to let the player know of this required change in speed, because failing it means instant death just before the goal. Anyway, once you know about this the level will fall on the next try, as once you´ve learned the mechanics the design is incredibly fair.

In conclusion: great and fun level with cool mechanics presented very well.

But when an accident reveals a hidden passage to the basement, it's clear that there's more than meets the eye to this quaint store. Armed with the raccoon leaf, can he put a stop to the darkness brewing below?!

Despite the description, this is a very easy level, mostly just to look cool, tell a story, and do some interesting things with various objects and tiles. :)

Been having a blast playing everyone's levels in this thread. Have a friend in from NC who is an old gaming buddy from high school. We have been marathoning this game all weekend. Thanks everyone for the great content!

Way too much trial and error for me. There was also several times I got to the last jump but the spiny didn't follow through the spikes and I lost. It's a good designed level but it is not fun to play because getting the spiny shell timing to land on the spring is almost arbitrary, and the jumping windows are extremely strict.

Thanks for trying it out. Yeah, I definitely agree that for people that aren't into trail and error this level won't be much fun. It's one of the reasons I made it such a bite sized level. I see levels like this that are way longer and that becomes frustrating. I was hoping that the design of "tough but short" would help with this feeling a little.

I wanted to create the feeling similar to learning a combo in a fighter, mastering the curves of a track in a racing game, or a trick line in a tony hawk type game lol.

Just went on a marathon with a ton of stages from people who played mine and from the last 3 pages. Had to stop but I plan to continue later and maybe do a couple more. What I did notice is that levels from 2-3 pages back continued to be unplayed until I got to them :( come on guys, let's make sure all levels posted here get some attention; not everyone does flashy screenshots or banners but that doesn't mean they don't deserve plays. We can do better! :)

Hey Maker-GAF, this is my first post here I think. I have no level to contribute to the thread, but I'm not digging the current ranked rotation in Splatoon, so I figured I would grab a few of GAF's SMM levels and stream them for a while. I have a list of 10 to play and no idea how long it will take me to go through them, but I plan to be on for the next hour or so. (Might have to end the stream abruptly if my wife calls, she's out of town tonight.)

The bowser one is a bit difficult and includes a boss fight at the end. Both levels have three hidden 1-ups!

Played your thowmp castle, you're aware that the blue shell can be used as a helmet right? No way to get that first mushroom otherwise, the stage could use some power ups. You also can't equip a new shell if you have one on your head which sucks because the red one is better. Also you need to stop players from jumping at the Yoshi spawn, I jumped thinking nothing was there and then Yoshi spawned, otherwise great level! It was a good difficulty and good use of helmets, what was the point of the spinys at the end though

Yeah the blue shell is meant to be used as a helmet! I placed the torch thing next to the warp pipe so players can unequip the blue shell helmet but I guess it's not very clear. I'll see what I can do with Yoshi. Thanks for playing it and for the feedback! As for the spinys at the end, they're just an obstacle hiding a secret and weapons against bowser!

Anyone know what kinda percentage you need to achieve an expert level? I was thinking about making the easiest level ever, but die to it a bunch of times to have it hit expert level. Give people relief when they run across it.
 
I've gone through heaps of gaf levels over the last couple of days, some of you guys and girls are seriously talented. Haven't started trying to create my own levels yet.

I feel like a dedicated thread where in order to post your own level you MUST play and provide feedback for another GAFers level above would work well.

People spend a tonne of time creating levels, and it must be disappointing when they get lost in the shuffle of people continually posting there next level.

Not very long .... weirdly my "1st level of Konami's 2016 Mario" was like almost every letter and they didn't allowed because ..... it can't have more than 4 numbers o_O

Weirdly the message is like "you have or a forbidden word or more than 4 numbers" and instantly I was like "of course I can't write Konami beca.... four numbers ?"

Haven't had the time to make stages like I would like to, but here is an Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade themed stage called Only the Penitent Man Shall Pass. It is obviously based on the three trials Indy must endure. I tried to make it semi-easy because I wanted people to be able to get through it. Only the the second trial is tricky. Hope someone here gives it a try and enjoys it!
