With all the vita announcements from TGS and games releasing from now to the end of the year , I think that Vita can sell YoY at this Xmas. It's starting to sell better now than last year

It's selling better because of new hardware.
Games won't really affect it too much.

Regarding 3DS' 2016 lineup, we have something like.
  • Shin Megami Tensei IV Final
  • Hyrule Warriors Legends
  • Snack World
  • Terraria
  • Yokai Watch 3
  • Dragon Quest XI
  • Monster Hunter Stories
  • Zero Escape 3
  • Ace Attorney 6
  • Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3
As confirmed/planned 2016 titles, for speculation there's something like.
  • Yokai Watch Sangokushi (really doubt it's coming out this year after all)
  • Etrian Odyssey V
  • Likely also is a regular Monster Hunter game, a new one, XG, whatever.
  • Pokémon 20th anniversary games, I do expect more than one.
  • Possibly more Yokai Watch spin offs.

I have to say that list seems to be the best lineup list for an upcoming year for 3DS. So far in 3DSs life, strong announcements were often made within the same year. But also in general the lineup already looks very good for 2016, with a few uncertain things, some releases aren´t set in stone for 2016 yet. Will be interesting to see what surprises 2016 will hold for 3DS on top of the already very promising lineup with some millionsellers.

The games overwhelmingly seem like things that appeal to the audience that already bought a Vita.

Maybe Dragon Quest Builders, but how many are buying that that aren't buying Minecraft.

Seems like the 3DS and Vita has a good line up so far in 2016. Hopefully NX announcement in early 2016 as well =)

Something that seems to get ignored is that projects mostly get greenlit way before the announcement or first footage is beeing shown. PSV actually showed year on year growth last year at least up to a certain point, even in October 2014 it was like ~200k up year on year. It seems that some publishers saw a positive trend and acted accordingly. This largley explains announcements like SquareEnixes Saga and releases that now aren´t too far off anymore. Since then the trend obviously is showing straight into the opposite direction. It also doesn´t help that next gen isn´t too far off.
I'm not sure if that is being ignored because the Vita did see a more steady release schedule in 2014 and so far in 2015. I think that there would be bigger gaps in the release schedule if many publishers only acted accordingly to specific trends. Getting closer to the end of the generation could have some impact though, but hard to know if we will see the big drop in 2016 or in 2017, in my opinion. I think the biggest impact will be in 2017.

Expect another dismal result for Vita holidays, even with some big games the past couples years, this system has a historically terrible holiday season

PSV will be in shelves in Japan and everywhere around the world until Sony decides otherwise.

Stores can reduce space, put them in a corner, whatever, they will still sell PSV hardware and software as long as Sony demands it and stores will comply, period. This isn't nintendo, Sony has a very strong presence across several departments in all major electronic stores and you don't want to piss them off.

Seeing how every single PS hardware has lasted for a decade on shelves, PSV will follow the pattern.

it's surprising it was even a point of discussion here.

So does Sony just shove the Vita down their throats?

Thanks, that seems a lot. I guess it's almost the same amount as PS4's lineup next year in Japan?

I think DQ should make it. Especially since the 3DS version exists.

EDIT
Unless they pulled a smash bros or something, which I doubt.

Funny how 2016 will have at least 5 million sellers on 3DS, while 2015 barely has 3.

There are two titles which will definitely do over a million in 2016. Three if we expect a new Pokemon game. Four if we expect a new Monster Hunter game too. There are a couple of titles which could do over a million, and should at least be close, but I don't think it's a given.

Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution 2+ for Vita is out on December 3rd in Japan. Priced at 5300 Yen. Thread is here.

XCOM was also leaked so it might be getting a release too, maybe?

On this note I went back to see if they had announced expectations for Monster Hunter Stories and all they have is "The title related to Monster Hunter" at 2.5 million: http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/data/pdf/explanation/2014/full/explanation_2014_full_01.pdf

That's assuredly Monster Hunter X (which, judging by that number, is not getting a Western release this fiscal year).

I mostly see healthy sellers, but not that many million sellers are guaranteed from that list. The Pokemon Z (or whatever) is going to be the blockbuster (aside from DQ) assuming that all comes to pass and a few others seem potentially big, but I don't see five necessarily given what we know right now.

Given the release and even reusing a lot of MH4U localization, I think it'd still take a few months at least to translate everything cleanly and clearly for the new styles and arts. (And that's assuming they don't skip it in favor of MHXG or whatever.)

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???

DQXI, YW3 and PKMNZ (or whatever). MHS and DQMJ3 are safe bets (not 100% likely but they have a pretty good shot at reach the million mark: Capcom seems to have big expectations for Stories, and Joker is really popular DQM series - remakes sold in the 800-900k ballpark and this is a new title).

Their fiscal year ends in March 2016. I suspect it's being skipped in favor of a complete edition.

But yes, it's possible it's an April or May title.

Terraria had a retail release on PS4? No wonder it slipped into the shadows.

Yeah, the Vita version did pretty well but the PS4 version seemed to do nothing:

37 PSV Terraria 13,974 / 87,298 Spike Chunsoft 2014-02-06

80 PS4 Terraria 1,936 / 1,936 Spike Chunsoft 2015-02-19

I really don't believe MHX will get a western release as is. Reason why is that it would have been announced by now if Capcom planned a western release for April. MH3U was announced in September for a March release. MH4U was announced almost a year in advance.

I think Capcom is simply going to wait for the inevitable enhanced version on Nintendo's next platform. One reason is that they can translate everything at once, which is one way to save on localisation costs. Also, having the Ultimate version makes for a more appealing offer for players, who have a lot of content to enjoy.

Monster Hunter Stories is another story altogether, not quite sure what Capcom is going to do there.

Also, Medabot 9 announced for 3DS, two versions. A bit surprised by that, didn't 8 bomb?

Takao, please post if you're ok.

Nice. It seems that sales were not bad after all, otherwise they wouldn't have bothered in developing one game after the other one on the same platform. Indeed, Medarot 7 sold fine (107k); Medarot Dual not so greatly (48k), but Medarot 8 increased slightly (49k in the first month, we don't have updated data).

Imagineer said in their fiscal report that Dual bombed (I'm pretty certain the majority of that 48k were sold through bargain bins). I don't think they ever commented on 8's sales, which seem like a bad thing given it's the second worst selling mainline game.

We have
Medarot 8: Kabuto Ver. <RPG> (Rocket Company) {2014.08.28} (¥6.264) - 29.130
Medarot 8: Kuwagata Ver. <RPG> (Rocket Company) {2014.08.28} (¥6.264) - 26.803

Dual apparently still didn't sell its first shipment.
