Welp. Went with the $65 Jason backing...thing...lol

I mean I was really excited about Summer Camp's concept but now adding the F13 license with a single player campaign?! Day Zero.

Jason did run in The Final Chapter, mainly towards the end. Some pretty intense chase sequences. Ted White's Jason was brutal and aggressive. My all-time favorite. Jason didn't resort to walking until he became zombified in Part VI Jason Lives.
Man, my memory's gone bad. I remember him jumping through the window, but didn't remember him running.

And yeah, Ted White was great. It's a shame he and the other actors had to deal with so much bullshit from the director.

Okay that's nice and all, but how would this help us accomplish our goals in the game? I must know before I commit! :)

I don't think you understand what I'm asking. It's not that I'm against any of that content at all, far from it, I want to know how it's being implemented into the game design and what it means for the players.

The only way I can see them actually shoehorning nudity (and shoehorning it is the ONLY way it can be implemented here) is either by
a) cutscene, or in their case, probably like still animatics as they won't have budget for cutscenes (this is the safest, most obvious choice)
b) some sort of Batman:Arkham Knight style clothing degradation as you play and get progressively dirtier. Basically have her boobs flopping about as she runs by the end. This is stupid, and would create a whole hell of a lot of backlash.

You are also acting out a movie so it just adds more to the atmosphere and styling

That's another huge game design problem right there.

Players will aim to win, not to act like they're in a movie. And the two stand directly opposed.

How will the game work around this?

This looks pretty rad. They've got a $25 pledge from me for sure.

1 v 7 survival horror sounds like a lot of fun, as long as they figure out how to make it fun to be the counselors and not just Jason

They already pretty much had a working game, they're just polishing it and licensing it now as far as I understand.

"already pretty much had a working game": No programmer required?

They do note that the financial investment they put into Summer Camp didn't go to waste. That was also going to be a multiplayer slasher. So they're likely able to just bring that gameplay over into this. Everything else from the environments to the characters would have to be reworked to fit the Friday the 13th setting.

"likely able to just bring that gameplay over into this": No programmer required?

I'm not trying to be a turd here, but the idea that the game has a year left of work on it but won't require the services of a programmer because the code is done and sitting in the can--even if the game was done and sitting in the can, the reskin process would require a programmer. I'm not saying it's not possible that the game will release, I'm saying dishonesty (or an omission of this magnitude) in a budget statement is a massive red flag to me--and given past KS delivery issues, I think people should be aware of red flags rather than pledging 2 minutes after they see the listing because they like the concept.

Lego can make a Friday the 13th game too. Kids can like it.

Lure the slasher out? as the movies seem to penalize "Sin" with the slasher. Example in various movies.

You are also acting out a movie so it just adds more to the atmosphere and styling
Luring an AI out works. Luring a player out doesn't because they're a player and don't have to come to your position.

Hence my silly "Sex gives a stat buff but broadcasts your position" idea. You have a reason to want to have sex, but it's dangerous and can wind up getting you killed if you aren't careful when and where you have it (And you have to have another player willing to take that risk with you). Player communication would be extremely important.

Can you have sex with other players? Why?
For the stat buffs obviously

But honestly that work so much better in a single player experience, because then you can really inhabit the character you're playing as and the devs could build a creepy unsettling atmosphere

You're not ever going to get that in a multiplayer game

Aren't they already programmers? Like they self-funded the game before this, it seems Kickstarter is being used to incorporate the F13 license on top of a game they'd been working on for a while. I don't think anyone seriously thinks 700k is the total budget of the project, they've put funds into it themselves so far I imagine they'll continue to also self-fund with the help of whatever they raise through Kickstarter.

Some things after watching the interview.

  • 1v7
  • 1v1v1v1v1v1v1 The counselors can work against each other
  • One of the objectives is repairing a boat that only has two seats
  • Kane Hodder doing Mo Cap
  • Tom Savini doing design work
  • Composer from the original is on board

Okay so Illfonic appears to be the developer who made the FPS module for Star Citizen and then got jettisoned off as they took the updates internal, and it looks like the other developer is "gun." of Breach & Clear fame.

I'm not entirely clear on who is doing what, but this seems to be a bizarre mishmash on top of the budgeting setup and missing information.

If "The Final Girls" is any indication, you can NOT kill the stalker until the final battle.

Though also via that movie everyone but the virgin girl will die. Then she turns into The Slayer and goes all Buffy on him.

One thing I didn't like about the reboot is that Jason showed emotion. He got angry.

Jason to me is just a relentless killing machine. A supernatural Terminator. A force of nature.

That's what I want to see. In the game he can (teleport) just appear near you (behind that tree!) and he starts walking forward.

I love all the movies, but my favorites are the first four films. Jason was more human and more real. His aggressive nature in those films was scary and intense. The later films became too supernatural for me. No matter how fast you ran, all he had to do was keep walking or magically "teleport" near you. No one stood a chance. At that point, the scare factor and anxiety disappeared for me. The later films are still fun though.

This thread makes me more and more weirded out by the minute.

Way too much smoke for no fire. Something strange going on.

Instead of guessing, wouldn't it be nice if a pitch for people to give money to develop a game actually told us the gameplay mechanics though? Especially if it claims to already be in a playable state. :)

This is what's holding me back. The franchise is my favorite in the genre, but at this point I don't even know enough about the game to imagine a match in my head and I won't part with any money until I can.

Everything they said was the perfect amount of vague where they could just be making it up.

It's things like 'When you collect stuff' and 'The moment when I realized playing as a counsellor was fun'.

You'd think they could be more specific if they have done play tests.

Yeah he was a great Jason. Him Kane, and the guy they got for the remake are my favorites. The worst is Freddy vs Jason Jason, so dull.

Probably saving that for last wave push for kickstarter bucks

Gonna wait for a few weeks to see if they bring out some gameplay.

I never understood this opinion. The guy was willing to be lit on fire for the role. Even if you're not fond of the rest of his performance, that's gotta count for something.

Sounds great, I want to see more games like this. <3 Once this gets out more I'm sure it will be backed by slasher fans in a instant.

Nothing against the guy really, he could have been great, and maybe just the director decided he should be as dull as possible. He was pretty good when Jason tossed him up against a wall in Part 8.

Looks great but they really need some gameplay or something to get across how this game will work. I can't back this until I see something in the gameplay department.

I really like the thought of this game--I hope it becomes a PS plus free game to get a lot of publicity. I was wanting a game like this for awhile. I really wanted to play Left 4 Dead recently. Wow Sessler, I am a fan of yours from X-Play but I wasn't expecting you to release a game that I have been craving.

A little trivia for some who may not know... The guy who played Jason in FvsJ(Ken Kirzinger) is the same guy who played the diner cook in Jason Takes Manhattan(the one Jason grabs and throws against the wall/mirror).
