The Legend of Legacy |OT| Are these Tales of a SaGa?

Hmm, I noticed that other characters were eating a wing flap attack, but I didn't realize it was because of Ricochet. But still, my tank rarely taking damage was worth it.

This game is fun but it's way too hard to get stronger and it's hard to accept a saga like game with 3 person parties, so used to 5 like saga Frontier and romancing saga 1-3.

Still enjoying the game but it's not what I really wanted. It's no SaGa Frontier...

This box is HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. Also forgot it has a hardcover book. Neat.

*inhale* FWWWWWWWWWWWwwwwwwwissssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I hope this 3DS still works.

Yeah, I feel like a four person party would have been preferable, especially if one character is gonna be busy using Shield skills and one has to make elemental contracts. The team work aspect isn't as tight as, say, Crimson Shroud's three person party system.

I just realized the character portraits on the status screen change depending on what weapon is equipped in their first slot.

1) Anyone else have major lag after you sold map info? Near Fountains, Shadow Maps or just using W.Shield?

2) Story really isn't any different depending on your main? :(

Meh loved the demo, waiting for my Copy, seems as VGP was late in sending it out and it's still in Canada but en route to Germany.

As for filling from TurnipFritters info you can actually just go to the Japanese Wiki. The growth trends that favour each character are fully there and if you still have problems check the first two posts at the GameFaq boards.

IIRC the monsters don't really follow your progression so in this you can actually out level them and be safe.

Yeah, the game tends to lag during certain attack animations, or if there are numerous enemies on the field.

The lag during the final boss is especially awful unfortunately. Makes retrying him if you fail a bit more cumbersome.

Just ordered the game. Is it probably too late to get the launch edition? I don't care either way, but it would be cool to have it.

Ok so what does this mean? Is there some sort of crafting component, or is it talking about the bargins you unlock?

I'm actually not sure. I completed the game and there is no crafting at all (unless I totally missed it somehow). Selling maps can unlock 'special' items in the store, including weapons. However, on my new game + file the store was no different than my original file.

So I dunno.

Well at least my 3DS isn't giving up then... :(

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I'm interested in this game but the only SaGa game I've played to completion (and enjoyed) is SaGa Frontier. How is it similar to that game?

Man, I knew this game was supposed to be tough...but dang, it's SUPER tough.

I'm still in the starting area...just completed the tutorial. When I go back to the forest though, it has me fighting 4 guys at once. Almost every battle I have someone die.

I always have someone blocking too...any tips?

Try the demo out, should be the fastest way to see if you will like the game or not. :) The up side too is that if you like the game the demo progress carries over to the full game.

Having trouble beating the
Water spirit in the ruins.
Any tips?

Pick a formation where your character with the Singing Shard is in Attack or Guard and hope they act slower than the boss so they can keep stealing the Water elementals back to your side.
Cast Water Shield and keep it up to reduce the damage you take.
It seems like it has a specific attack pattern, but I may be misremembering.

Also note: You can run away from that boss. If things are looking grim, duck out, go to the inn and try again. You'll keep all the skills/level ups you awaken during the fight, so feel free to do so if you need to.

So when the merchant says "Such a detailed map! I must have it!" and I'm at 5 star value, that is when I sell right?

This game sucked me in. The demo did not grab me much at all but I have played for about 3.5 hours tonight. I'm at what I consider the first real boss and got whipped so I went out to do other things and get stronger. I think I filled out the maps of the first two areas. I fought basically everything I came across so I'm feeling like my little band is getting stronger.

Also recruited Owen and Garnet from the bar. Filmia and Bianca are studs for me but Liber is not so good. Not sure if it's RNG fucked or what but Bianca has outpaced him in a few things and has gotten a few crucial HP gains while he is still stuck at 94.

Tomorrow I challenge the boss again! Four day weekend means I'm going to be playing this a ton.

Also I'm a little confused about the overall attack/guard/support levels of my characters and then those things for individual attacks. I'm guessing if I have a high guard stat on an attack, it helps me defense when using that attack? I'm sure it's explained somewhere but I did a little bit of guard stance grinding because having a 1 in guard for certain attacks seemed like a bad idea.

sell at 5 stars, yeah

uhhh I don't really know what to feel about this game. fighting reminds me of Paper Mario: Sticker Star. there's almost no point in fighting regular enemies. at least in SS, I'd get a tiny amount of coins or stickers (I think, I forget); you get something at the very least. fighting regular mobs in LoL almost always results in nothing happening. money gain is extremely low, item drops don't amount to anything and level ups are sparse. I don't feel any stronger than I did at the beginning of the game. and it kinda sucks my ship rewards are garbage and I make no profit from them nor are the stats a noticeable upgrade so I'm poor as shit. I'm gonna finish the game but if I feel like I won't be able to squeeze in a second run with Garnet then I guess I'm one and done

It seems certain that fighting against stronger foes are the best ways to increase stats and learn skills. I think Saga games balance that well with their Battle Rank and Event Rank mechanics. I think this tries to make it more rewarding to fight by letting skills have levels but it feels like it can get tedious and I can't really get a sense of abilities getting more powerful but that coukd just be me.

New game plus not letting abilities and stats bringing forward is also a huge mistake.

yeeeeah I noticed that when I fought some really strong monsters like that grim reaper thing and the griffins. I suppose it's a blessing I'm able to run away after getting some awakenings or level ups

God I wish I didn't have to wait till next year before this comes out.

Even though I would prefer something closer to SaGa Frontier (if not a full on remake of that game), I'm more than happy to get anything SaGa.

I didn't really have a problem getting stat ups from randos for most of the demo, but it definitely seems to dry up after the first two areas and require you to try and level up off the Archwings.

I agree about not being able to tell if I'm actually getting stronger, the stats and stuff aren't super clear.

What is the deal with elemental affinities for weapons? (Weapons with a colored plus sign on their icon) Do they just add elemental damage to the weapon strike or do they give you an opportunity to learn moves or anything interesting like that?

Shame to hear this is more of a low budget dungeon crawler than a fully fleshed out take on SaGa. I love the SaGa games for their amazing variety in the worlds and characters you meet... oh well at least there's Hamauzu music and some decent graphics to look forward to.

Does running away ever fail? Doesn't seem like it.

There are some fights you can get into where it will not give you the option to run away.
I have run into it with a couple of the griffin fights.
If the option isn't grayed out it seems like it will always work.

You can access your list of Awakened spells from that weapon's list instead of having to have a singing/whispering shard equipped.

I'm at the area with the birds.

Any recommended way to go about trying to awaken skills? Fight the higher level monsters before running away or?

What's the multi-use healing item that you guys were talking about?

Is Money the only thing linked to map completion % at the moment you sell it?

Overall, dungeons feel like a mix between those found in Unlimited:SaGa and Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song, while being more visually detailed and fixing some of the annoying aspects of those games. Good stuff.

Getting the Air shards really opens up the whole skill capabilities of your team to the point where I have to wonder why you're stuck with Water for so long early on. Air allows you to keep SP up for expensive but effective (status and such) skills that really make the combat a lot less repetitive of just forcing yourself to use basic attacks as you completely deplete SP in two turns.

Spell casting in general just suffers early on as you can't feed it with so little SP, so you can't learn it, and you can't make it stronger.

The publisher in Japan FuRyu does not really seem to do large budget games in general. But so far seems like folks are having a good time with it, which is good to see.

Yeah, the Air contract seems ridiculously good. Plus, since an Air-dominated field halves the amount of physical damage everyone receives, you can get more opportunities to awaken skills/levels.

I was wondering what was going on with that. I figured that having air dominance reduced damage but didn't realize it was being halved.

I also noticed that water skills were less effective in a fire dominant field which makes sense I guess. Just kind of sucks as I mostly rely on healing hands for healing.

Air is definitely incredibly strong coming from Water. The fact that it offers damage reduction, Air Shield, Bladestorm, and SP recovery is downright incredible. My current spread is:

Meurs -> Support/Attack with Singing Shard (Air), and 1H Sword with a high level Reckoning. Equipped healing item for support needs.
Garnet -> Guard with Bladestorm (Air), Retaliate (Shield), and Pulverize (2H Sword).
Bianca -> Singing Shard (Water) for healing needs and Hailstorm, and a crazy Trident from the boat for pure damage.

I can kill those birds (black and red) in the Ruins in ten turns without losing a single point of SP by the end of it. The white one is the only one giving me trouble.

The trinket items are better for healing than Healing Hands, they don't require a field/attunement nor can they be negatively affected. Only down-side is that you cannot learn it and, therefore, free up an equip slot. You still want Healing Hands on back-up, though, as its still good to have redundant healing in case a healer falls, and the Singing Shard (Water) gives a ton of good resistances vs. a regular healing item.

I luckily got two of the high level healing items from the ship early on (I forget what they were called). Those were my main source of healing up through the endgame.

I think I got similar, but only one (3 Armor, heals for 150). But it is more than enough. I got really lucky, instead, on the weapons. Meurs has a sword (can't recall the name) with something close to 50 attack and I'm only to the second temple ruins. He hits for 700-1000 damage depending on the buffs/debuffs with Reckoning and Attack mode.

Bianca has Trident of the Deep which is around 35 attack, as well. So she wipes out any trash fights with a single Tailspin.

I find that I'm just spamming contracts so the enemy doesn't steal them. Also holy crap at the fire ruins, everything hits so freaking hard.

Bee Stinger is so good when bosses aren't immune to poison.

Yeah, I understand how they work but unfortunately all I have available is the medicine box (whatever Filmia started with) and that heals 65 tops. Healing hands does better than that even in its reduced state.

Hopefully the item store will update soon with something better.

I'm guessing this means you've tried the boat with no luck? I got my healing items off of the middle-tier boat, and its pretty quick to go and come back.

Buy the trade ships. The $5000 one can get you some ridiculously powerful weapons and items. It's almost broken.

I realize it's intentional but damn I can't help but really really want to be able to use one more character in battle.
One person always defending, one for healing and making a contract, and the third for attacking/whispering shard using was a decent plan up until I got my second singing shard... How do I juggle all this when my enemies have the advantages from contracts plus there's more of them?
I like this game. Whenever I enter a new area it makes me really earn my wins, haha.

So is the only town this boring first town I keep coming back to? I just don't think I get the appeal of this game. Story isn't driving anything, combat difficulty spikes out of nowhere, and nothing really interesting to explore. What am I missing? Surely there is something here? I'm about 3 hours in by the way... just past where the demo ended. Talk me out of trading this in!

You don't need a contract/healing slave once you set-up a Water Shield or have good attunement to Air. You don't need to keep spamming contract once you've done it about three times, for roughly three or so turns because it has heavy diminishing returns.
