Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Probably going to try to finish this up tonight, really excited to see what the ending is. I think I've got the twist figured out, but definitely looking forward to seeing how it develops and figuring out the justification and reasoning behind it. I will say that I'm a little nervous given the bad rap that the ending's got on GAF, but we'll see!

Gotta see what the deal with Paz is as well, that's some weird shit.

People either love it or hate it, both camps are big, but as usual the haters are more vocal.

Though it is unfortunate that you are already expecting a twist ahead of time, that in itself is a pretty big spoiler.

So GAF virus just spread to my MB, and i don't know what the fuck to do about it.

A few missions from now you will find out story-wise.

If you don't want to wait for that or don't want to figure it out then here's a hint
look at the language the infected soldiers speak

Yeah, I've been
expecting a twist for a few years now; something about the way the trailers were cut had me thinking that for a while (plus my never-dying desire for Kojima to do a repeat of MGS2). I'm excited though; I'm wondering why people were so down on the story in chapter 2. It's honestly been great so far, assuming you go in with the expectation that it's post-game. Like, the whole game is designed to feel a lot more like what life was like for Big Boss during this period of time; it doesn't make sense for all the story beats to happen in quick succession.

I wish there was more stuff to spend GMP on, I'll even take party events with varying price levels for Mother Base that raise moral so you don't have to run around to do that bullshit.

Aww yeah final combat deployment mission done. Managed to do it in two tries even.

You can take party events? How?

I am trying to Fulton this vehicle and this happens. I seriously couldn't stop laughing.

Haha! Oh wow! I've only had jeeps keep ramming on the tanks.

Couldn't agree more, the progression just feels more natural. You are doing mercenary jobs and sometimes something significant happens and at other times it's just a job. Compare that to the previous linear experience with something freaky happening every two steps. The balance between story and and gameplay is much, much better in MGSV.

And yeah, people are mistaking Chapter 2 as a half way point for whatever reason when it's just a post game scenario, and an excellent one at that. The only other post game I liked this much was the one in The Last Story.

I should continue this game for the 100% but I don't feel like returning.

Why even bother, aside from superficial personal gratification of getting a platinum trophy?

The game rewards you with jack shit. No outfit unlocks, no special weapons, nothing.

Stayed up late and finished the story of MGSV last night.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. At 55% so still have plenty left to do.

The gameplay is incredibly fun though, makes it all worth it.

Except when you have to do the conversation mission tasks, which may or may not make you want to punch your monitor/tv.

Developing a nuke after patch 1.04 is ball breaking. Finally develop it just to wait 24 gameplay hours.

We can't, I'm just saying we need more things to spend GMP and I wish that was an option. I'm pretty much done developing (just need the shot gun blue print from a dispatch mission) things until I buy another FOB but I'm not going to spend real money on MB coins so that's a ways away. I'm currently at over 7M GMP thanks to online moving back the dumb cap.

I'm at mission 28 where
I have to kill the skulls at my downed helicopter.
I've got a heavy load out with rocket and grenade launchers but I don't seem to do much damage. Any help Gaf?

I would also be interested in knowing how to kill those, I encountered some in mission 16 (I think?) and got my ass kicked.

Take Quiet with you. If you have Sinful Butterfly equip it and she kills them all really fast. Guaranteed S-Rank.

Okay seriously how the hell am I supposed to develop Support Head for D-Walker? Every single time I fulton Metamaterials Specialist he gets kicked out of MB because his stats are too low.

So... wtf was that in the 2nd floor of the medical platform behind the closed door?
Didn't paz die in Ground Zeroes, how the hell is she alive and how is Snake's flashback different from what happened in GZ?

So, regarding the MB Disease: i searched in my stuff
those who had a language in common with everyone in quarantine and sent all them there too
, now will it end by itself? Will i get back all my 170+ soldiers from quarantine?

The flashback is what actually happened. Keep playing to find out more. Everytime you do a Wandering MB Soldier SideOp go check on Paz as you can give a new photo to her.

It will end after Mission 29. Now you that you have put everyone who is infectious into quarantine you shouldn't get more infected in the MB. You probably wont get all soldiers back but you should get most of them.
Don't worry though since you will be drowning in staff after awhile especially if you keep fultoning soldiers.

I guess so you aren't as quickly rewarded for farming soldier fultons. I remember at one point most of my R&D levels kept leveling up just from soldiers that were freed from the brig.
God forbid the game reward me for playing well. That would just be awful. Thank you Konami for making me wait to reap the rewards for what I already accomplished. I almost had fun there for a second.

I think it is more because of the immersion as you wouldn't be as immersed if soldiers would immediately be like "Okay I can work for you even if you punched me in the face and killed lot of my buddies". And it is not like they stay in the brig for long and you should get bunch of volunteers also.

What's the smoothest way of getting S+ and S++ dudes? I'm nearing 100% completion and almost 700k heroism, and my MB is filled with A++ and S mostly. Combat and Security are the only ones where A+ are the lowest ranking dudes, the others have an almost 50/50 split between S and A++, with some random S+ here and there. I heard that S+ and above can't be found during regular missions and free roam but that seems like BS to me and my experiences.

finished it yesterday

i feel empty

this game broke me down

the ending broke me down

the twist broke me down

mgs didn't end like i wanted it to

it's all over

someone hold me

I finished it.

Wow.

I went through pretty much all the "endgame" story content (Paz, Quiet's ending) before doing the ending, and I'm really glad I did. Paz was a crazy turnabout that o didn't expect, and really put a lot more depth into Venom's character. Finding yourself on that unbuilt deck in the back was incredible.

Next, mission 45 and Quiet's ending. Overall, I actually enjoyed mission 45 in terms of being one last shakedown in terms of the player's proficiency in managing Snake, Quiet, and Mother Base simultaneously. Definitely could have done without the 1HK tanks, but otherwise it was a cool standoff. Quiet's character was also amazingly developed in this mission; showing her bond with Snake, as well as his resolve to protect his own. It also reflects well retrospectively from the ending, as it showed that Venom had inherited the meme of Big Boss, and that he was capable to living up to the meme that he had been forced to inherit.

Finally, the ending. I did end up calling the twist, down to actually who it was in the helicopter, which is pretty funny. With that said, it was executed spectacularly well, and ties the modern series to the MSX games better than any before it. The idea of Venom being used as a decoy in Outer Heaven while the real Big Boss builds Zanzibar Land is brilliant, since it retroactively explains why you fight Big Boss twice in the early games, as well as how Big Boss could be working with Foxhound and running Outer Heaven simultaneously. Additionally, it established Big Boss as a villain in the perfect way, in that he was a man pulling strings from the shadows as a means to achieve his vision and change the world, not caring who gets hurt. This establishes him as a villain better than any sequence of him shooting kids or some shit could every have, simply because it's believable and impacts on characters we already know, like Miller and Venom. Speaking of Miller, the justification of his breakup with Big Boss is so much more elegant than I expected, and I thought it really helped to sort of tie the series together.

I think the series ended on a perfect note, and I really don't think I could ask for more. There are a lot of things I want to reexamine going forward, such as the role of player agency in this game with relation to narrative progression, as well as the idea of the player as being effectively entrusted with Big Boss's legacy. I wanna think on it some more, but overall, I think it was a perfect ending, and I'm honestly glad that there wasn't a chapter 51 or whatever, at least at the end of the game. I would've liked a bit more resolution with Eli, especially since he didn't get a lot of screentime as is, but I think the whole product stands on its own brilliant as is.
