Last week I was at a wedding where a full grown adult, when presented with his meal, angrily and dramatically pushed all of the vegetables on the plate onto a saucer. Like he wanted everyone to know he hated vegetables. His wife had her head in her hand..

Did he also say. "The animal eats the veggies, so I eat the animal to get my veggies"

Americans eat fast food.

Fast food rarely if ever has any fruits for veggies besides french fries.

There you go.

The Federal Dietary guidelines are outdated though.

You definitely don't need that much fruit since it is full of sugar. We should all probably be eating more vegetables--even the vegetarians.

Yup, nothing like a glass of pure natural coca cola, harvested from the vast cola glaciers of Alaska.

I usually eat north of 4 cups of veggies, but next to no fruits. Most of my veggies are dark greens too. It's not surprising that people don't get enough, as even something healthy like Chipotle only has a small amount of veggies on it. Fresh vegetables are expensive because they lack the subsidies that a lot of other foods seem to get like wheat and corn.

I get quite a bit in my morning smoothie.

Always keep ripe bananas in my freezer as the base; a bit of peanut butter for proetien and a little fat, and load it up with greens like spinach and kale. I then eat an apple or a orange at lunch; snack on carrots and grapes throughout the day... and usually eat loads of veggies at dinner.

if no one does it then clearly its not really a problem

what are the guidelines for? immortality?

guidelines are a load of shit the sodium hypotheses is just trash and i assume everything else is truthy bullshit that sounded good to a few doctors at some point and now needs tonnes of research to disprove.

medicine is still in the dark ages do what you want, if your not obese and don't have scurvy your probably doing alright.

I certainly get enough fruit a day via applesauce, pineapples and apples.

But veggies? Ehh, I fully admit I probably only eat Veggies three to 4 times a week.

We eat two salads with lots of fruit each day. No dressing, no bacon bits or shit like that. Just romaine, spinach, carrots, beets, cabbage, fruits, etc.

It's not hard. Just do it.

I get a Ultimate Grilled Chicken sandwich with a side salad at Wendy's all the time.

I am a huge fan of Chick-fil-a's side salad. I rarely see anyone else order side salads at fast food places though. When I go with people from work the ratio of salad to fries it about the same as this study.

I eat lots of veggies. But not a lot of fruit (maybe one banana a week and an apple). I als0 think veggies are healthier than fruit.
Less sugar. Oh and i eat tomatos and peppers in dinner dishes.
But i do enjoy raspberries, and that kind of stuff. In fact, sometimes we mix strawverries, raspberries, blueberries, etc., blend them and put it in the freezer in a popsicle mould. That gives you one tasty pretty healthy popsicle. No added sugar. Just the berries.

Veggies are cool, eat them all the time. Fruits on the other hand are a pain in the ass.

Fruits I eat on a regular basis:

Bananas
Avocados
Tomatoes

That's about it.

Japanese people live long as fuck, and they don't eat much fruit.

Fruits are overrated.

...now I'm sad that's not a thing. Of course then you'd have the stories about how your coke was mined via atrocious labor conditions or something, so I guess no matter what we can't have nice things.

I think I over eat veggies, but under eat fruit.
I am the same.

Don't understand people who don't love vegetables.

I like fruit but it is more of something you eat inbetween meals, which is not something I do very often. Would probably eat more fruit if I ate breakfast regularly but most days I just drink coffee for breakfast.

Not even sure I eat five cups worth of food period most days, tbh.

Definitely more veggies than fruit here, though.

I tried a similar one, and the kale taste is too strong. I like beet and carrot juice.

tomatoes, mushroom, sweet potatoes and zucchinis are great at being incorporated in everyday life.

One and a half to two cups of fruit seems like entirely too much fruit in a single day. I eat a single piece of fruit, like a banana, apple or pear a day. That's maybe one cup of fruit. I couldn't see eating more than that, especially since they are all carbs.

Two or three cups of vegetables seems more reasonable. But measuring vegetables in cups seems absolutely stupid because a lot of them cook down so much. We need these measurements in grams.

I've never had issue with fruits (always have them at meals), but vegetables has been an issue for me. While things like corn, beans, and peas are easy enough to eat, stuff like lettuce actually makes me gag and I haven't really found a sensible way to eat a salad because of that. :\

I eat like 3 cups of fruit a day and I'm at my best physique ever. If you're just like "ew carbs," you're doing life wrong.

I can get down on some apples and tomatoes anytime. Same for green beans. And sweet potatoes are fucking amazing.

People saying its too expensive are full of shit. I spent more on junk years ago as a single person than I spend now with a budget and aim to buy fresh things as much as possible.

Fruits getting vilified is such a strange thing.

I get it if you're running a ketosis diet, but the general population isn't getting fat on fruits.

Fruit juice is a different story. No fiber there.

2 cups of veggies at lunch. 2 at dinner.

Frozen vegetables are extremely cheap. No excuses.

Fruit I save for post workout. Apple, banana a scoop of whey.

Man. How can you guys all hate vegetables?

Throw spinach in your eggs with some chopped up onion
Eat carrots and hummus as a snack
Stir fry Brussels sprouts in some olive oil and garlic
Oven roast your kale to make chips
Throw a stir fry vegetable blend in with your chicken and toss some teriyaki suace on it

The options are endless.

Five cups of frozen teriyaki-flavored microwaveable broccoli is around $3. That is more than the daily requirement and highly filling/nutritious.

Shit is easy, no excuses if you are actively buying any food at all.

People don't cook. They're not at step 1, let alone the step where they chop onions. They just buy pre-made food or food-like bricks of filler.

Yeah I don't doubt it, the only time I eat vegetables is when I order the Beef and Broccoli from China Express or when I go visit my parents.

Eat a lot of meat though, and i do go thru an entire Pineapple a week so i'm not a complete slob.

I just get a large Jamba Juice with vita boost every day.

That sort of counts, right :)?

If your goal is to pay too much to down a bunch of sugar while pretending like you're doing something healthy, then sure.
