Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 PC performance thread

? :(
I had no trouble running Shadow of Mordor or Wolfenstein: The New Order at High (or High-Ultra even?) settings. The same goes for Dragon Age: Inquisition.
The way Black Ops III looks on my PC right now is just terrible though, isn't it? I don't have eye problems, right? That shadow is pracitcally made of huge squares.

Even shoving everything on max (regardless of how it actually performs) it just doesn't look that good. The shadows look bad, the textures are blurry.

AW looks and runs much better to me.

I don't think there is anything you can do, and I strongly doubt Treyarch will bother optimizing for 2gb cards. It's safe to say their target PC specs are 3gb+.

Here's the deal: if I change anything, that is sacrifice performance (which right now is nice, at 50+) for nice looks, the game just crashes and burns. That is not cool and should be fixed.

If by "nice looks" you mean textures then nope.
It's not Treyarch's fault your 760 has only 2gb. They can't fix that.

Their high texture settings is meant for 3gb+ cards.

I just played a few matches of Kill Confirmed with basically everything at high, not max, at 1080p and it basically didn't drop from 60 FPS unless it was going back to a menu after a match was over. Very smooth. Mouse controls feel... not precise? Feels like a tad bit of lag or acceleration or something.

man seriously?

This was a huge issue in the beta , i would of thought they fixed the mouse issues...fuck

I have game set on High, uses 5.5GB of VRAM and I have hard time seeing how those textures use up so much space.

Normal textures look utterly terrbile, though. And other devs had no problem making High or even Ultra textures work okay with 2GB cards.

you kinda answered your own question.

Remember how ghosts required a certain amount of something or it wouldnt even let you install the game? (Was it ram?)

These games are not super well optimized.

I wish they were , i also have a 2gb card , but cod games are basically either they run well with what you have , you sacrifice , or you upgrade something unfortunately.

Has anyone tried adjusting "MouseVerticalSensitivity" in the config.ini?

This is the default
Code:
MouseVerticalSensitivity = "0.022" // -1 to 1

Anyone else unable to hear anything through a headset? I have a wireless USB headset, and I can hear everything totally fine through my external speakers, but it's complete silence through the headphones. They work totally fine with everything else, too.

Headphones work fine here. Check your windows settings when you plug in your headphones or maybe they're broken?

Does it not have the same audio options as BO2, where you cycle between outputs in Options?

I'm using them right now for Skype and stuff and it works 100% fine, but the game audio just refuses to play through them. I can even have the game audio go through the speakers while I have other things going through my headphones, but can't seem to get the game through.

Nope.

That patch fix all the issues I was having with the resolution. Game now runs great. I'm able to pretty much max it out on my 970GTX at 1080p. Now to figure out what the fuck they did to the mouse settings. I move like a tank.

It's at least reassuring that they seem to be receptive to feedback and fixing it. Given the imminent mod tools it would be foolish not to get this game to be at its best on PC.

Game ran like hot shit yesterday with the config fix applied(only way I could get the menus working) and when I had textures set to Extra and a bunch of the other settings toned down.

Reverted the config back to it's original state last night. That smoothed it out a lot, but performance still wasn't where it should have been. I bumped textures down to High and everything else up to High and with SMAA T2x. Runs beautifully now. Probably around 80-100 on average. I guess those Extra textures are just a real motherfucker.

Is it looking that much better than AW? I think AW looked amazing on PC.

It looks better than AW, in many cases, but it doesn't blow it out of the water. The textures however, are fantastic! Best wall and ground textures I've ever seen from this series!

have an i5 2500k, 16 gigs of ram, and a 970 playing at High settings @ 1080p, didnt see any stuttering, not sure if its 60 (didnt enable fps counter) but its definately not 1-2 fps.

just started playing it after they said they released an i5 patch so maybe im lucky?

my menus are also normal too.

Yeah, this leads me to believe the problems are probably NVIDIA driver related:

-Kepler performance is absolute dogshit. 280X is 30% faster than the 770.
-R9 290 slightly faster than a 980.
-Minimum frames on anything that isn't a 980Ti/Titan X are vastly inferior compared to AMD.

Extra textures + shadows are super taxing :

As a matter of interest the game is 900p on Xbox One, sub 1080p dynamic on PS4 and 60fps is not sustained.

Many thanks for the info.

For once a CoD title is pushing all 3 platforms hard, although the end visual result is debatable.

The mouse lag with vsync on is horrendous yet its a nightmare of tearing with vsync off..triple buffering in nvidia control panel does nothing

Honestly that's a pretty major difference to me right there. But I mean, fuck, that's not 6 GB worth of textures. Plenty of games have looked just as good without running like PowerPoint presentations.

VRAM usage BO3 is pushing with graphics it has is joke when put next to e.g. TW3. I know different styles of games and all, but come on now... :/

Performance itself is improved from Beta in sense that weird stuttering isn't present, even when resource usage is very high.

Hell, even compare it to its own predecessors. I had no trouble maxing out Advanced Warfare or Black Ops II and they both looked great. This certainly doesn't look any worse but it's not really better either. Performance is ridiculously bad given the visuals, at least on Kepler cards (which seems like a recurring theme here)....

MP is unplayable for me. Tried campaign and zombies and no lag or acceleration while in mp I can't aim where I want. Acceleration is horrible. Yes it's off in the menu and yes my fps cap is below my refresh rate.

Game looks awful, I'm at medium settings and still getting drops. Just had an MP match where it dropped to 30 and just stayed there.

What the fuck is going on here? Really regret that $40 GMG deal

game does not like you changing settings in game...

need to restart each time or else frames get all messed up

VRAM usage doesnt quite work the way some people think with these game engines. A lot of these games are filling as much VRAM as allowed, not what is needed. You can run a lot of games that bloat themselves up to 6gb of VRAM on a 2gb vram card and still have it be playable.

I think it looks a lot better than Black Ops II, at least.

I wish I could get consistent framerates at max settings with this game. I hesitate to call it a terrific looking game, but to me at least the game looks really slick in motion when the framerate allows it. I really like the palette and lighting, and the motion blur here is maybe the best I remember seeing in a FPS since PlanetSide 2 and Crysis. It borders on the ridiculous at times with the option set to 'always on', but I love it for the most part.

i5-2500k @ 4.16ghz
970GTX
8gb ram

i can almost max it and keep 60fps. I maxed it, played some zombies and it started stuttering all over. i turned down some lighting options and everything from extra to high, fixed it. The stuttering didn't look like my hardware struggling, more like a sudden leak b/c it carried into menus. so maybe with a patch, I'll be able to max it.

the kicker is that I'm running at 720p lol

I just feel like playing on my plasma! Sucks in MP though because I can't see people until it's far too late. I'll have to save MP for when I go back to my 1080p monitor.

Upgraded from my 570 to the 970 today and I've had the i5 for years. I mostly did it for fallout but bought this on a whim--haven't played COD since MW2 and I'm kind of blown away by how much content there is. It's like jumping into musou and being overwhelmed by the features that've been piling up in each iteration. Very fun game !

Maxed is the problem, extra textures and shadows seem to cause the bulk of the issues, while high works flawlessly. I just whacked everything onto high and jumped in and it has been brilliant.

I wonder why extra textures are so demanding in terms of VRAM. They don't look that good and there does not seem to be that many of them per level.

No chance for Treyarch to do anything about this I guess.

Uncompressed textures maybe?

Anyone having the sound go off when you throw a grenade? Only happening with my Roccat Kave XTD (5.1 sound).

The audio settings in this game are shit by the way. Treyarch mix? What the fuck?

I've gotta say, after the patch today and lowering textures from Extreme to High -- the game runs great.
I also have been getting mostly dedicated servers in MP. I'm overall pretty happy with the PC version now. They really did a 180. And quick too.

There are a couple annoying issues with alt+tabbing and it starting in windowed mode from time to time. I also wish I got a little better performance with my 980TI. There are occasional dips to 40fps~.

Maybe Nvidia can help me out with that.

Anyone know of a fix for the game constantly hard locking my machine?

I played 250h of witcher 3 before this with not a single crash ( and I believe that game pushed my rig harder as well).

So frustrating.

2500k@4.5
780ti (standard clocks)
8gb ram
Latest game ready driver (this could be the culprit I guess, as I only installed it yesterday along with the game)

Running game at 1080p, high setting. Fxaa.

Played for 3 hours last night and it froze my machine as many times in that period...

An error I didn't expect to see earlier. LUAI Out of memory.

AMD FX 8120
GTX 760 2gb
16gb RAM

Which was weird because before I let it fully crash out, I checked task manager and had ~5gb available. All settings are medium with volumetric lighting and the object one off.
