Censorship continues.

This soon will be a Super Burka Fighter if we don't stop listening squareminded people who ask for that stupid censorship.

I don't get why they care so much about ratings. Is it normal kids buying games themselves in USA/Canada/Australia/Europe? Would a retailer refuse to sell a game if a parent is buying CoD accompanied by his 12 yo kid?

It's not like those poses alone would make the rating jump to M. I think this is not about ratings, it's more about being less ridiculous.

I'm mad at this not because of the lack of male gaze, but because the new camera work is boring as hell. Shoddily done job.

The only reason to keep taint shots, buttcracks, etc. to appease a tiny but loud group of little shits. You can be sexy/sexual without showing the awkward parts of people. You can see cammy from 30 feet away and she'd be hot and you'd know it. You don't need to run up to her and, as much as we'd like to, shove your face in her taint to see she's hot.

If it wasn't as bouncy and crotch shot heavy to begin with, there'd be no outcry but I'm sure there'll be some drama now that people perceive things are being taken away from them.

You are very boring.

For the slow crowd: Capcom's making these changes. The game's not out yet. It's not censorship. It may not even look like this in the final build.

Real talk this intro change is awful. Not because it doesn't show her crotch, but because it's just a bad shot. Half the frame is empty and, it's a lazy edit. I imagine it will see further changes, like an entirely new angle.

I'm okay with cammy intro change because everybody skips it anyway but Mika critical art change sucks :(

Despite my general position on the creep factor of some of the design choices in the game, I kind of agree that the butt slap wasn't a big deal. If she's dressed that way, it seems disingenuous for Capcom to then say, "oh, but bringing attention to her ass like that just isn't appropriate."

The only thing I wonder is if capcom wants to changec things, why not just give those characters new costumes to begin with?
As in when they started SFV why weren't redesigns on the table for those two?

Is there an academic study on this? Not trolling, it would be an interesting read.

No need. It's common sense.

Lower rating, more potential sales, but it has to be as high as possible as that teenages and adults don't think it's for kids. So, T is the best place to be.

Works the same way with PG-13 movies.

No academic study needed. The industry already knows.

The vast majority of total revenue dollars exists in the E-E10+ rating, followed by T, followed by M.

Even Halo 5 is rated T.

There was a chart showing this in a Game Informer years back, but I wouldn't be able to narrow down which issue it was.

The highest selling software title for the Wii, PS3, and the 360.. was an E rated game exclusive to each of those platforms.

I don't know if there's a study, but it seems like a logical deduction that a more restrictive rating by definition will restrict (to some degree) consumption of that product. That is, unless the more restrictive rating actually attracts more consumers than it would have otherwise, but that seems more likely to be the exception than the rule.

Old pose looks much better with the more dramatic angle, should have just moved the camera to the right instead of moving it upward to hide the deformed crotch:

Prudishness on the rise.

I would've just done more pec and crotch shots of the male characters myself.

Agreed.

I feel like we need more female eyes in the industry who are in charge of these things, to give us the right camera director and cinematic to truly appreciate a man's bulge.

This one is actually an improvement. It was a super awkward angle to begin with, and her crotch looks like a weird mess of pixels. Didn't look good at all.

bring back the butt slap though.

People would skip super animations to the last couple frames if they let you.

Cheesy panty shots aren't a core part of street fighter and the game will sell better at a T rating. It's a sound move on capcom's part.

Since i already vastly expressed my opinion in the closed thread (Mika's changes are uber stupid) i say only one thing.

Crotch or not, the new camera angle is really bad. The first was more thinked, this looks like they made it just for hide the crotch.

Is a 0.2 second long crotch shot really what would prevent a game from getting a T rating?

Agree my friend. I liked the low-angle shot.

Lol, sorry I pictured this and it made me laugh.

Is it really censorship though? They just altered the camera angles.

Same; I like the view from the boots and how you can see her face, but that crotch.. nah, we can live without that.

This and other factors was part of what was discussed in the last thread. The 'rating' makes the most sense since while there are games with worse content, they can be inconsistent. I doubt it's done to make the game less sexualized just in itself since almost all the female characters are still heavily sexualized with these edits.

The ratings don't seem to affect games like CoD and GTA. Can these be considered anomalies to the general logic? Or is there something behind it?

Street Fighter is already a well established franchise, I don't see any rating affecting it's sales at all. Again, it won't ever be M, even with the earlier poses the worst possible outcome would be a T, which confuses me why the ratings argument ever came into place.

Those games are less niche than fighting games. Given a smaller pool of potential customers, it makes some sense for capcom to try to maximize the family friendliness of the game. Street Fighter is also about consensual, stylized combat. There isn't even any blood. There's no reason they shouldn't go for the least restrictive rating they can achieve.

shocking news

Developers keep iterating and improving their game depending on internal (and external) feedback during development.
