You can tell what people really think about this when they start conflating the shitty behavior of the handful of protesters blocking the media vs. the overall message of the entire student body that is protesting.

Yup. People were looking for any reason to dismiss this. See how quickly the entire tone of the thread shifted after that video was posted? Suddenly this thread became another bitch fest whining about liberals and college kids.

Sadly, it wasn't a handful of protesters. From the full version of the video, it looks like at least 150 or so protesters were glad to cooperate in being used as a blockade against the press. They had at least two perimeter lines, at least two rows of students deep, so that estimate is probably really low. Fucking sheep students, man.

EDIT: My estimate was actually really REALLY low. Watch from 10:30 on (especially 11:30 on when Ms. Click is encouraging the students to keep the press out.) On second view it looks like over 1500 protestors easily.
Hardly a "handful" by any estimation. In fact, the suggestion that this is a "handful" is a joke.

This has nothing to do with what he said. He said on the front page reddit is terrible with issues regarding racism this is absolutely true. Racism is rampant on the default subs. I just went there to check myself and that shit was still problematic as fuck.
And that's exactly what everyone should do if you encounter unsavory content. We'd all be better off if everyone followed your small example here.
Hopefully, the university will send her ass packing as well. However, given the climate, I wouldn't lay odds on it. If she doesn't understand how free speech rights work, she doesn't belong near any school.

Those kinds of professors are the worst. They were in my undergrad too. One of them tried to turn my class into a social experiment by making our final exam an essay, that a group of 4 would do. Meaning you each wrote a 12 page essay and submit it. But in order to promote teamwork and cultural understanding, he would then only pick one of the 4 essays and we'd all get whatever mark that was as our final grade. I'm a natural 95% or more essay/test taker and she partnered me with some racist ass white girls, another person who barely had time to do anything outside of work. Had to escalate it to the dean and student union complaint to get her to stop.
Assistant professor should be fired, the original point of the protest has been overtaken at this point, and why am I not surprised it was co-opted by a lot of white people who turned it into something else. But hopefully their original requests for the strike halve merit and are listened to, and then each of these morons preaching safe spaces and bullying the Asian journalist get some perspective. Their knowledge of freedom of expression, freedom of the press and freedom of peaceful assembly is woefully poor. They remind me of those citizen journalists spouting bullshit in front of cops as they film etc.

The university has failed these students. They are ignorantly just following these "leaders" like sheep into trampling on what should be seen by all students in this country as an essential human right.
Where is the consciousness to question "hey...is keeping the press out right? Is this really what I should be doing?" Where is the critical thinking that a university is supposed to foster among this mass of students?
You're not going to 'fix' racism by shouting down and locking out these opinions. Only time and education are the cure. I don't condone Machiavellian tactics to accomplish one's goals.

Don't you know? In arguments about race and "politically correct" stuff, we should always listen to both sides. If we try and criticize racists for racism, that's censorship. And that's even worse than racism!!!

I don't want to be too presumptuous to say this, but I could imagine that Michael Sam might had less of race issues than perhaps the average student. Far before he made national headlines with his coming out, he was a huge celebrity on campus, widely and well loved. Student athletes, especially those within football and basketball do enjoy quite a bit of privilege on this campus. I can't comment on intimidation that any African American students felt because I'm not one.
As for events, there was the infamous cotton-ball incident around the black student center a few years back that comes to mind as a particularly egregious example.

Given there's not much to disagree with on the topic of "are feces swastikas bad y/n" but, for some strange reason, there's actual disagreement on the merits of blocking press coverage, it's not surprising there's more discussion on the topic there's disagreement on.
A thread with 200 "yes smeared shit swastikas are bad and the school should respond more strongly" posts wouldn't have much to discuss even though it'd be a correct take on one of the topics.
It's not some signal of sneaky subtle apathy to racism or even racism itself that you and others here imply with these sorts of observations.
Got to change the narrative. They always crying over a burning CVS, but they never talk about why it burned.
Who do you blame though? I mean it's like you want people to ignore a white Professor yelling and grabbing at a student journalists camera, telling him to not film and get lost and then calling for 'muscle' to help remove him. It's obviously going to change the narrative. Because it stops being a protest and strike about discrimination on school, and more about freedom of assembly, freedom of expression etc.
This always happens for pretty much any movements as well. It's why I hate when others co-opt them to fit in as allies or to show false support. This professor has done more harm than any positive good. I mean it's even on the Canadian news here about a professor preventing a student from filming and threatening him. It's fucked up. No mention of what the original protest was really about.

Or maybe some people can understand how bad racism is in this country while at the same time disagree with a bunch of protesters that openly disrespect the First Amendment. I'm confident that countless people that support protests such as those in Ferguson, including myself, are critical of the ConcernedStudent1950 movement.

But that elicited crickets from a lot of people, but low and behold this silly story pops off and everyone wants to talk about the existential siege against the fourth estate. It's a joke.
Oddly - ESPN had a lot of conversation (much of it thoughtful) about the first parts. The debate didn't go on long because the President resigned so quickly, though.

I think it mostly resides in /r/videos, most men's rights douchebags like to use it as a platform, and the racists were out in full force for Trayvon and Ferguson. I honestly think that if 2 X Chromosomes was not a default sub, reddit would have been called out for being a racist and misogynist echo chamber.
