Just started this game yesterday.

Got it used so didn't have the Darwin/Dickens DLC code. Found it on ebay though. Is it worth $2?

It's worth nothing. It doesn't add much overall beyond an extra op that counts towards nothing. But if you want something that adds some more XP and cash, sure.

I'm glad to read the positive impressions. I haven't played Assassin's Creed since 3 so I am clear of franchise fatigue. I'm waiting for a killer sale I can pick up this, Fallout, Tales Of Zesteria, and Dragon Quest.

Can someone spoil the modern day aspect for me? It'll either be enough to get me prepped for the next one or it can potentially get me to purchase this one despite being spoiled (similar to the original for me).

All cutscenes for modern day. Actually, the setting for the next one may have been revealed. Wonder if I should make a thread.
Thanks. Will check it out.

I know I gave this game a lot of shit, but as a big AC fan, I want to get into it if they get back into the modern day stuff.

I also want Connor back. Would anyone oppose a new modern day character who can jump into the eras of each of the mainline assassins to play some of the important missions as a way for the character and player to "catch up"?

Has anyone found a reason for this? 1gb for a free outfit seems excessive.

yeah, this is why i checked in with the thread today. is there an answer for this? 1gb is crazy for an outfit (outfit in question is the free evie steampunk outfit on the store). i am downloading it now but see no reason why it would be a gig. maybe there are some of the season pass outfits/equipment all in one bundle but you can only access hers with this free download. i don't know, it's the craziest outfit download i have ever seen. i'm down to 20 gb free (after installing fallout 4 today) and really wish i didn't have to dedicate a whole gig to an outfit for crying out loud. oh well, if it sucks, i'll just delete but i would love to know why.

edit: holy shit. i just noticed the season pass is only 1.1 mb on the store. maybe they have these mixed up. i actually downloaded a gig and not 1.1 mb for the outfit. did i just get the season pass for free and people have been buying a $30 outfit? i sure hope not for their sakes.

They certainly are but it's a slow buildup. Despite Connor being incredibly well written imo he unfortunately wasn't very well received. They could go super meta and have people play an abridged version of the major series with the helix.

Seeing that image had me pumped for Unity until it was revealed it was just cosmetic. But that's what I want, even if they're just tutorial missions (with free running through trees and climbing up cliffs and hunting being in Connor's section). Damnit I just want a new gen American frontier with closure for Connor.

Edit: I don't mind Unity with the exception of the sub par modern day stuff, but I'm just slow going. Just climbed the Eiffel tower.

It feels like the PC version is getting further away with each passing day.

He did wrap it in the spoiler tag.
Must be my browser cuz that image is just post there for all to see.

Edit, image spoiler tags don't work in mobile mode, Fuck!
Not Demacabre's fault.

Yeah, these days the spoiler tag also works with images, but not all browsers play along nicely with the code. The post displays as intended in Firefox.

Ah. I thought that was fixed some time ago. :(

Just finished the story, great game.

Jacob is a bit annoying at times but Evie is great so that balances out nicely. The story was more interesting and a lot less disjointed than Unity's. Much like IV, I feel this deserves a direct sequel.

I'm a bit disappointed they didn't keep some of the better stuff Unity was trying to do (like more interiors and some pretty open missions) but the game manages to not entirely regurgitate the old formula while remaining faithful to the spirit of older games (particularly the Ezio ones).

Random thoughts:
- I'm genuinely surprised by how well the changes to traversal worked. Between the hookshot and vehicles, it's pretty different but it remains interesting.
- I hope they develop a bit more the assassination missions. I feel this design is a step in the right direction but I'd love for them to go all Hitman.
- Missions in the last few sequences had genuinely challenging stealth.
- Train stations fucking suck.
- Evie is great. I hope the Jack the Ripper expansion features her more. If it's good obviously.
- I liked the multiplayer and coop aspects of previous entries but it's nice to see them focusing on what matters the most.

Am I the only one who thought at the end
someone was going to use the shroud to resurrect Desmond?

Edit: visually, it was okay, with some beautiful parts, and the performance was well above Unity's at launch or any other console AC minus IV on current gen.
I'll probably double dip on the PC version during a Steam sale.

thank god someone else feels this way. easily the best writing of the series next to the original. I would love a remastered version of III as I don't have a PC and it was kind of a mess on consoles, but with so many entries if they were ever to do over one of them it will never be that one.

Revealed how? Through the modern day portion of Syndicate? That would certainly be interesting. Any elaboration would be great (in spoiler tags, of course).
Nah someone who leaked the plot of Syndicate is now giving hints about new stuff. Some copy paste.
-It still gonna be the West though. And the map wide open. I mean, expect more than just a closed city like Unity or Syndicate.
-I meant western country, that's all.
Quite unexpected, if they're going where I think they're going then they've been hinting about it for a while.

Fingers crossed for Soviet Russia. They can reuse some of those European building assets.
My most requested setting after London. ;_;

Connor appreciation here is, well, appreciated.

Evie bring a break from the Ezio template is great, too. Hopefully Ubi's writers notice the response she's getting.

I think you're the only person in here I recognize as a fellow Connor fan.

Are you folks part of the Wolfkin Initiative?

Edit: those are two separate comments. I don't recognize anyone from here on there as it's just a nameless Facebook/tumblr account that tried petitioning for a Connor sequel but has turned into more of a fanart/fan rant type of thing.

That's really interesting. Do you have a link? I'd love to read whatever is being hinted at.

You can add me to the Connor appreciation too. I enjoyed the game (didn't like the ending) and thought Connor worked well most of the time.

The ending of that game though... Excellent idea, wrong execution.

The only modern day plotpoint that they introduced that I'm not exactly thrilled with is
Desmond's son that Abstergo is tracking
, it's super cheap and dumb.
"Oh, this character who is dead has an unknown son that was never spoken of!"
Is dumb.

Been playing this over the last week.

On Sequence 6, all but two buroughs conquered.

Really fun game. The only Assassin's Creed games I've played are 1 (which I quit about half-way through), IV and Unity.

So while I don't have the AC burnout a lot of people have, this has been very enjoyable and has been my favorite one.

Connor fans unite, I think he's the best protagonist in an ac game (apologies to ezio) and really wish they would have more heroes like him who's conflicted makes bad decision but at his heart is a good person.
I can't help but think the fact that he wasn't European (yes I know he was mixed but he looked like a straight native) played a role into him being disliked.
Anyway I'm glad this game was well received I'll be getting it blackfriday

Ack, that sucks! Sorry mobile mode doesn't hide spoilers. Yeah, got my platnium as I beat the game or I would have gone with another image.

This game is really good. Just finished sequence 5. The Karl Marx missions suck ass, I like Bell and Conan Doyle though. I feel like it's almost there now.

Generally it's really good, but some things still irk me mainly regarding the parkour.

1. Sometimes pressing
PS3_R2_16px.png
and
PS3_Circle_16px.png
is ambiguous. Like I'll be free running down to the ground then get stuck on a ledge where the character breaks the free run and stands. I press the same combination and the character now hangs and moves sideways instead of carrying on moving down.
2. Indoors has still largely been a pain in the tighter environments. Grabbing onto random ledges or bars, dropping down then getting back up repeatedly.
3. I think they need to seperate run and free run. I'm sure free run used to be
PS3_R2_16px.png
and
PS3_Cross_16px.png
. Running used to be just
PS3_R2_16px.png

4. The camera angles after the parkour are sometimes terrible. You end up looking at the sky or the floor. Camera just needs to be on a 'freer' hinge.
5. The jerkiness between transitions - needs tightening up.

For me, this is what stops this becoming the best AC so far. I've only just started sequence 6. I think it's quite easy playing through on defaults, but am going to give it a bash afterwards with minimal/no HUD. It's sometimes hard to pull away from your current assailant to leave multiple people in near death mode for finishers but the concept works well when it's pulled off. Loads of gadgets - can't help people only really use 2 or 3 though.

Map size is spot on I think. Not too big or small. The population and scale all feels right as well. The recurring activities aren't too terrible, except maybe the hijack missions. The fighting rings are there for quick money spinners so they vindicate their inclusion I think.

Crafting and upgrades is a bit random. I've been using the same revolver and cane/kukri (with one upgrade each) for about 4 levels now. Haven't seen something worth upgrading to in the menus yet, that's a significant upgrade.

The collectibles and synch points have been scaled back and is well appreciated. I like the approach of showing most on your map then you have to find the rest yourself. This works well for the music boxes as you have an audio cue, but in terms of the flowers or beer bottles etc. they could have applied more logic. Like flowers only found in parks and beer bottles only found in taverns. So far I've stumbled across a random flower on the Thames and a beer bottle in some random alley (there was no tavern nearby). If they applied some logic like this then I could get more on board with the extra collectibles.

Overall, really solid and I'm glad I took the chance on this after skipping Unity. I did actually borrow a copy of Unity and started playing it before this arrived. Only on sequence 3 I think and it immediately got shelved for this.

So I got this game after all.

I never played Unity due to all the issues associated with it.

Was really hesitant about buying Syndicate, but after 5 hours or so, I am kinda hooked...

is it bad? :D

I found myself being very immersed in this world they created and even though I am very early in the game, I really just caught myself walking around and just watching NPCs go about their everyday lives.

I am really impressed also by the graphics, especially the lighting.

Gameplay looks refined to me compared to my last AC game I played, Black Flag. Love the new stealth crouch movement/mechanics.

Only thing I dont like -although it is in line with history itself- are the weapons in this game. Looks like there are daggers, canes and iron fists.

Hope that the game continues to keep me interested as it has now.

I'm a Connor fan as well. Though he's not my favorite Assassin, I still enjoyed him and his story. I think part of the reason people don't like Connor is because they made him too monotone. I don't blame the voice actor since that was probably the direction given him. I do really think though if they had been a bit more emotional and much less flat tonned with his voice acting he might have gone over better.

What's the Wolfkin Initiative?

Conner was OK, my main beef with AC3 as far as characters are concerned was with Achilles. How can you have a mentor with such a bad ass name that is so utterly bland and underdeveloped?
Evie and Jacob were so much fun that it's a pity they most likely only get to star in just one game. Staying in the same locations or with the same characters might contribute to franchise fatigue, but I don't think Ubisoft burning through settings and characters on a yearly basis like they do now is healthy either.

I really really like Evie, one of my favourite protagonists of the series.

They made her so smart, strong, badass.

Plus I felt like Jacob being a huge idiot that doesn't think and Henry being kinda bad at fighting, made Evie seem like the best assassin there.

I echo a comment someone made here earlier where they wished the massive prompts would be hidden when you're on top of a synch point, even after turning all hud elements off. I just want to take in the view and listen to the nice music but instead have this HOLD RT + O TO DO A LEAP OF FAITH over my head and a huge wall of icons on my progress in that district. Not even necessary, people surely know how to a leap of faith by this point and I can press a button, open the map and see my progress in that district if I want to. You still keep that display if you want, just give me the option to hide it.

It's a minor complain as I'm enjoying the game so far a lot. I wish I captured some footage of the moment I hit another carriage with my own and the driver went flying head first into a tree.

I happen to love his monotone cadence and lack of contractions.

I just think people didn't like playing as an errand boy (which he was on the surface) but didn't give the game enough attention or thought and ignored the deeper meanings and homestead missions which really drove the contrasts and themes home.

The wolfkin initiative started as a sort of petition to collect AC3 fan confessions, thoughts and accounts to share with Ubisoft to show that there's want of a Connor sequel. It has since turned into a fan art and fan rant type of deal.

Have you guys noticed that framerate seems to get somewhat worse if you play for long periods of time? I am referring to the PS4 version. After a long session framerate looked to suffer a bit, I restarted the game and it was back to smooth performance.

I didn't notice anything but I remember there's a post in this thread that describes the same problem you've described.
