New Valkyria (Media Vision, RPG [not SRPG], new world) and VC1 Remaster for PS4 (JP)

The desire to do a full reboot would make more sense if they threw all the marketing behind this new game instead of also doing a remaster of the first game and bundling a demo with it. That's just weird.

They're not calling it a reboot. They want it to be a alternative sub-brand, probably like the Megami Tensei IP.

I wonder when they made the decision to develop this. When the trademark dropped, I believed that the steller PC sales made Sega reconsider a VC sequel, but that doesn't seem very likely anymore considering how much they seem to change things up.

I thought Chaos Rings was actually not bad? Haven't tried it, but Naora is involved so I can't immediately hate.

I personally didn't like Chaos Rings, but the series seems to be quite dead anyway after CR3 bombed and CR Sigma got cancelled.

The VC Steam release was less than a year ago. I highly doubt they got this ready in less than a year.

Yeah, like how Phantasy Star Online totally wan't a reboot. It's just an alternative sub-brand. The classic Phantasy Star is still alive and well! Oh wait... :(

I kinda miss the watercolor goodness, but im loving everything else.

THE AUTUMN OF MIRACLES ROLLS ON!!!

I feel like someone offered Konami in a Fullmetal Alchemist like trade to summon the rest of the Japanese games industry out of limbo.

That said, I wish Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 should be fused into one title for a Remaster called: Valkyria Chronicles 3 Remaster.

That allusion is almost TOO accurate.

If the intent is to kill off the Senjou brand for good & reboot as Kakumei, why even remaster VC1?

Probably the cheapest way they could think of to sell a demo for the new game. That's what everyone does on the PS4 in Japan these days right? Sell demos with remasters!

Well this must be why a new Wild ARMs haven't been announced yet. I'm actually ok with it taking one time then ^^

Director left a while back anyway. I dunno if they'll ever make another Wild Arms. They've been doing a lot of Chaos Rings shit.

They've had a variety of dedicated device output lately as well.

Shining Resonance (PS3, 2014)
Digimon Cyber Sleuth (Vita/PS4, 2015)
Summon Night 6 (PS4/Vita, 2016)
Valkyria of the Azure Revolution (PS4, 2016)

Was excited when I first saw the news. After seeing the details, eh. I'm really happy for more JRPGs and it seems like Media Vision does good work, but I'm basically just going to treat this as a whole new thing. If it's good, cool. If not, well I'm not going to buy it just because of the Valkyria name.

An RPG taking ideas from VC could be cool. I'm a bit nervous about it integrating magic, but I'm hoping it takes the bit more grounded war story approach like VC had.

We're safe as long as it isn't Sawano.

I NEED A BIGGER GUN, HELP IF YOU CAN

PLEASE WAKE ME UP
NOT TO SOUND CLICHE
BUT THIS WORLD SUCKS

I'm staying cautiously optimistic. I want to trust them to still make a good game with this, but I'm not sure why they're bothering with keeping it a Valkyria title when they're changing so many fundamental aspects.

Lol im seeing a trend here this gen
Fans cry for sequel, reboot, favorite franchise etc

Developer makes said game but switches it up alil

Fans whine, some welcome change, others get interested/uninterested either way

Game comes out is either hit or miss lol.

A message for fans…

Shimosato: “We can’t announce it yet, but we’re commissioning music from a famous name.”

Interesting, if it was Sakimoto again I don't think he would highlight this...

Perhaps.....Masashi Hamauzu, Nobou Uematsu or Mitsuda?

If its Yuki Kajura I'll cry.

Not turn-based, not SRPG? I'm actually not even bothered that we'll never get this.

Why? A normal RPG has better chances to be localized than a SRPG which is a really niche genre.
It's clear this is a reboot intended to give the series an other chance while opening to a wider public.

Sounds like they're wanting to make a Shining Blade PS4 exclusive but want to sell it in the West so they slapped the Valkyria name on it. Oh well, if it gets me a VC remaster and a localized Shining Blade game I can deal.

Assuming it gets localized of course. It'll be even weirder than normal if it doesn't.

Gears of War style Valkyria game plz

That sounds absolutely terrible. If we're ditching the SRPG, I would definitely prefer the approach they currently taking. You can't do any sort of grounded war story and have a game were you're shooting through hundreds of dudes as a single solider or even a squad.

Ugh. I read up more about the game, and aside from not being a SRPG, it's not even set in the Valkyria world? They created a brand new setting? It's not even just another country far away in the same world. Nope. Why Sega?!

I don't mind that's not an SRPG, but changing the setting and completely altering the aesthetic/tone makes me less interested in the game. And also how there's no word on a western release.

Just seeing this now and so happy to see Valkyria lives. I'm excited to see what they do with the new game too. Great stuff SEGA.

Because the niche genre is what I like. I don't really play action based rpgs. The turn-based third person strategy style is what made VC so amazing. Now it's just another mediocre tropey anime game.

“Battles are conducted by setting commands to buttons. They’re action-ish battles. It takes on the familiar form of recent RPGs. The maximum amount of party members is five. You control one of them, and the rest move based on a set thought process.”

Aight, honestly that sounds both interesting and yet also concerning.

Entirely depends on what recent RPGs they are talking about.

Yeah, they are releasing a remaster of the first game, but the new game will be in a new world, doesn't make much sense.

I don't care about it being a spin off or different gameplay-wise, I'm going to buy it regardless, but the new universe talk killed my hype.

SRPGs were doing really well recently, you'd think they'd jump on it instead after Fire Emblem's success but nope. whatever, could be good still.

Boy do I have news for you. In one of the screenshots in the Famitsu preview, you can see a party of 3 in a battle encounter with 12 grunt soldiers clustered together standing in a row in front of a big spider mech. They're probably just waiting to be destroyed en masse by area effect spells and attacks from the party characters. :p

Well , with more details , i'm in the "waiting for screen/footage" phase , rather than disapointment .

i'm still intrested , but i'll stay cautious.

More valkyria is damn fine. At least getting the Vc remaster will be a good way to try the demo , so i'll put the panic button back in the closet.
