Realistic Link design by Kyle Hefley (343 Developer)

Zelda wouldn't have such a big female audience if Link wasn't a qt.

That is certainly an interpretation of Link.

If it weren't for the manface it wouldn't be so bad, but that part of the model is really screwing with me.

Any speculation as to why Link is a character the fans always imagine different interpretations of, while comparatively few sit around drawing reimagined Marios?

I've never seen anyone seriously call for a "realistic Mario". The Zelda universe isn't any more plausible than the Mushroom Kingdom. I don't get it.

There are A LOT of realistic Marios out there.

Looks awful, why did they make Link look like he's in his 40s? Though I do appreciate someone (never heard of "343", honestly) trying something different with the character.

Eh, don't want. Best realistic links I've seen have all been female cosplay. Nothing scandalous, but girls seem to pull the look off well. Not even a reason I'd like to see a female Link. For that, there's just no reason in the world not to do it and there are reasons to do it.

There are, but they always seem ironic. I've never seen anyone say "I would love a Mario game in this style!"

Link, though, you get every shade. People want realistic-looking Zelda games, Miyazaki-looking games, cell-shaded ones, give us a older Link, give us an OLD Link, give us a female Link, etc. etc. etc.

No one wants to fuck Mario.

I quite like it, besides his head. I don't like his face, his ears or his hair. And the coloured version is even worse.

Yeah, it looks really silly there. Don't like it at all.

These, on the other hand, are damn gorgeous. I never knew I wanted this film until just now.

Just imagine. A Legend of Zelda film in the style of Princess Mononoke. I could die.

The model is fine, but art is awful.

Link's face looks tired and uninspired. There no sense of excitement when you see the character. The artist just doesn't get Link. The funny thing is, that's basically how a lot of Western games feel. They look realistic, but also very tired and uninspired.

Considering the stuff he's doing, he should look more tired. The part about western games is a bit of an insult since most developers model their characters look exactly like their actors.

It is because Nintendo themselves don't have a clue what Link is supposed to look like. They change his design and model near every game which leads to interpretation.

The OP image is well modelled but the issue is more that the costume looks like it is out of a stage play due to the age of design it is coming from.

The details are nice and I like everything but the head. It looks a little too big and the face just doesn't match the body at all imo.

Looks good, except the face. That is the glaring problem with that render.

It's impressive, but I think the disconnect may be that the outfit doesn't lend itself well to a more realistic render or a "masculine" face. Instead of it looking like a believable Westernized depiction of Link, I get the impression of an older man doing an admittedly good Link cosplay. I'd be interested to see what it would look like with androgynous or more "feminine" facial features.

This is an adult Link design that I could support in earnest.

This is what Nintendo should stay far away from. No need for that type of pandering in their games.

I'm looking at Linkle too.

Actually, some male objectification of Link would be great. It'd pander to and piss off all the right people respectively for once

The face just doesn't fit the character. Link has such feminine facial features typically that it just looks weird seeing such a masculine face on his body. The rest of the sculpt is amazing though.

I like this one way more than the one in the OP.

Not quite as old I guess but I thought these were pretty on-point as well:

This one cracked me up:

Although I do love the idea of just going full on masculinization with Link and giving him a beard. Daddy Ryu has shown us the way.
