Yes. Pretty much.

That logo is Kojima in a nutshell.

Very bad at synthesis.
Trying to be badass and deep at the same time.
Overdone, convoluted.
Will have people overanalyzing it.

It's HIDEO

It's HIDEOUS

and where have i seen that font before...

Konami is that you?

Early Christmas present right. Especially glad the new studio will be independent and the new game isn't fully exclusive. Hopefully this new studio goes the way of Platinum and produces many awesome titles and cultivates new talent. Congratulations Kojima-san.

Wow!!!! This is the best news I possibly could have woken up to, and I did. This is so exciting. So happy for Kojima, Ken, Yoji, and the rest of Kojima Productions! Great work, Sony!!

Nah, Kojima is one of a kind.
The industry needs *game designers*, and I often feel Kojima is the only game designer left, in the AAA segment at least and i'll support anything he puts out.

But that logo is horrible :p

Will they need to build a new engine? Depending on the answer to that, I'd guess anywhere from late 2017 to 2020.

I guess they'll just go with UE4.
Not sure even the foxengine provided any real advantage over UE4.

Year of fucking dreams indeed!

And Kojima was finally able to leave the MGS franchise after talking about it for 15 years. All it took was Konami more or less completely stepping out of the game's business and firing him in the process.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how he does now. I mean, he literally made MGS4 as bad as he could trying to get out of the series... but then he found new love with the game design of Peace Walker and MGSV, and even on that he mismanaged money like crazy which is probably one of the straws that broke Konami's back.

I hope to see him turn over a new leaf and manage things better now that he's the head of an independant studio. Hopefully it brings new-found focus for him and his team.

A lot of bitter Xbox One owners waking up this morning. Why can't we all be happy? Kojima is going to get the right support from Sony rather than if he went to EA or Activision.

It's a natural fit and partnership. Him going to MS would be like Xbox getting Tomb Raider as a timed exclusive. It just wouldn't work.

Great news to wake up to, totally deserved a break after the way Konami treated him. Will keep my eye out on his new project when it's unveiled, still really pissed off at the Silent Hills game being canned, fuck you Konami.

Can someone explain the logo? Can't quite work out what it is unless it's a skull inside a telescope or microscope?

A skull inside a futuristic medieval Knight inspired space suit.

More.

Kojima commented on the logo

"This is the logo of the new studio. It looks like the medieval knight, but you can also see the spacesuit. Our vision is"Aiming a new world with the pioneering spirit and the latest technology"

I also get the impression that no one in Microsoft really even cares about Kojima much aside from Mattrick.

Mattrick seemed like he wined and dined Kojima hard and even then, he seemed to be for name value more than anything else.

Whereas Kojima probably has a lot of friends at Sony. It just seems like a no brainer choice.

I don't blame him. These are wins execs live for.

It could be still true thou, since Konami own the IP not Kojima.

That joker who said that claimed the silent hills IP was being bought by MS for $1bn
lol.
And Konami will not sell their IP when they are perfect for pachinko milking right now.

Will they need to build a new engine? Depending on the answer to that, I'd guess anywhere from late 2017 to 2020.

Could be that they use UE4 engine. They can still make beautiful games with a relatively quick development time that way.

It's all a waiting game for more info I guess.

I was under the impression that UE4 has the best documentation for Japanese devs. You would think Sony would be up to speed on that as a Japanese company, but nothing about SCEJ's rate of output would bolster that claim. I am just glad that the texture blur in of UE3 is a thing of the past. That shit was absolutely wretched in a lot of games.

SCEJ use their own PhyreEngine, it's a great engine too afaik, why would they pay for UE4 when they have a great in-house alternative?
