The Hateful Eight screener leaked ahead of official release

Quentin Tarantino has created a lot of cult classics and I expect the same for his next movie. However, the movie has already leaked online before even the official release.

First the script was leaked and now the whole movie has leaked before release. This is bad luck for Tarantino =/

People should be wary of any potential spoilers for the movie online.

didn't the same thing happen to Django? I remember people having seen that before it was even out in the UK.

Well it is award season. Happens every year. I'd rather wait to watch this in 70mm over watching a less than SD screener.

Can someone explain why screeners are such poor quality? is this the same quality the critics watch?

well we knew the end when the scrip leaked lol, so I'm not afraid of spoiler the film should shine else where as every tarantino

Tarantino needs to get his movies out before Xmas if he wants this to stop happening. Those screeners always hit around this time. Although I don't think it hurt Django too badly?

DVDs encoded with watermarks. Cheaper, I suppose. I wouldn't be surprised if they were single-layer DVDs, which would definitely explain the low(ish) quality of the source. There are exceptions - I remember a couple of BD screeners floating around a year or two ago, but those happen very rarely.

why would you send a big ass high quality file to a critic if it's going to get leaked anyway?

Its screener season.

That they haven't worked out an alternative to distributing Dvds to members is stupid

So not worth it
so that's the reason? because those older academy members don't have a blu-ray player?

is this real life.

Blu-ray never made it big time.

Hell, most people here would never have had a blu-ray player if not for PlayStation.

It happens every year, Oscar screener leaks in mid-December is an internet tradition.

You're likely to see Star Wars up in the next 2 weeks too.

Screener? Doubtful, Disney has that shit on lockdown. Crappy quality cam? I'll be shocked if that's not out there already.

Why the Academy doesn't re-think their system astounds me. Every single year, almost every theatrical release that's submitted leaks.

...lacks reading comprehension.

No, the reason is that to judge the film DVD quality is enough and having BD screeners all over the web would be much worse. But the real question is why they still send out physical media instead of just handing out one time use streams of the movies.

so these old people are the reason why they never leak blu-ray screener rips? because they don't have a fucking blu-ray player?

not that i would ever download anything like that because it is forbidden by law, but still, the whole thought shakes me to my inner core, and makes me contemplate my very existence; it is very unsettling.

imagine watching the revenant or the tree of life on dvd.

imagine.
