Rumor: Final Fantasy XV slated for June - by Amazon Japan.

Mainline Final Fantasy typically launches worldwide correct? I think as long Persona 5 doesn't launch too close to FFXV everything should be okay. Persona 5 isn't launching worldwide and I can see it launching in Japan around that same timeframe. August at the earliest for the states.

No. That being said, this one should have a worldwide release or close to it.

They have? Last they stated (before the delay), Atlus USA outright said that Persona 5 wouldn't be released simultaneously in NA and Japan. I wouldn't be too optimistic about the possibility.

They've said conflicting things. Atlus USA has said both yes and no regarding a simultaneous release, so it's always been unclear. I'm by no means sure of simultaneous release, but it's also not certain that it won't be. If there's one thing we know about Atlus USA it's that nothing they say can really be taken at face value, positive or negative.

Games in Japan don't really have a set price. It's however much the publisher is willing to charge.

You don't find it weird that it's priced at $150? I mean we're talking about three times the normal price of games in the US. Even an upcoming game like Uncharted 4 is priced at ¥6,971

If FFXV is really priced at $150, I'm not surprised the Japanese market for console games is on the decline.

EDIT: Star Ocean's at ¥7,039. Definitely think it's a placeholder

It's probably a placeholder... Like the release date.
If not Persona 5 will sell more. ;)

I'm expecting it more so around September than June so it can hit the full Fall sales season while still staying out of the way of the biggest games of the year.

Will be surprised if it comes out in Summer, but will not complain at all if it does!

I live in Europe, so I don't have the XV-P5 dilemma because P5 will probably slide into 2017
2052
for these forsaken lands (I'll import the NA version, hopefully Winter next year)

But being totally honest, I'd still get XV over P5, we've been waiting.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Going head-to-head with Persona 5!

Persona 5 might get moved.

I won't be surprised if it suddenly gets moved to a vague "Spring 2017" release date or something.

I suppose the problem is the uncertainty of when these big games will release.

Plus the unannounced mammoth games such as Ass Creed, Battlefield, Destiny 2, Watchdogs 2?? etc...

Haha, that would be mad, too mad infact!

Winter 2014
Winter 2015
Summer 2016

They have to stick to that. Massive delay.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD 18,000 yen is 150 US DOLLARS.

Please tell me a ps4 game doesn't run that much in Japan...

EDIT: Should've read the thread. Thanks, GAF.

Same here. I've got two weeks off for the Euros in June, if FFXV launched then it would be a dream two weeks.

Battlefield and Assassin's Creed are always late October or November.

Destiny is probably September.

Unsure for Watch Dogs.

Well...they did say that the first half is more or less "retail" polished and so polishing the second half in 6 months is probably reasonable. Maybe I am starting to believe....

Then again there's also localization, which Tabata said is the main reason the game is taking a bit longer than expected to release....soooo.....yeahhh...

1. The seller is a third party who's posted a listing on Amazon Japan, not Amazon themselves.
2. The edition being sold is European. Check the details section: PEGI: Unknown
3. As Kagari mentioned, June 1 is a Wednesday. Games are usually released in Japan on Thursdays, and mainline FFs have always been released on Thursdays.

free FFXIV theme to go with this news. great Amano artwork too

FF15 isn't considered one of the biggest games of the year?

But I can understand avoiding competition.

From a sales expectations standpoint, no.

The usual FF ballpark of 5-7 million, whilst very, very respectable, doesn't get the series a seat at the big boys table.

However, we may see the biggest marketing investment for XV in an attempt to get a seat on the table.
