If they're learned their lesson Next Xbox definitely will be at least equal of PS5 in specs, announced totally focused on games and will be launched at a compelling price.

The problem is having the right product at the right time and that also depends on the competition.

The Wii sold millions of consoles to people that have never bought a console and will likely never buy one again.

Wii buyers are buying tablets, Google cardboard, and the hot toy Johnny and Jane wants. They're not going to buy another console untill said console strikes gold with a gimmick that tickles their fancy.

The Wii wasn't bought because it was a gaming console. The Wii sold because it was a Christmas toy fad that snowballed. Think pogs, power Rangers, tickle me Elmo, or beanie babies.

How much more have games budget gone up comapre to last gen ?
We know that companies make over 2 times the profit on DD and that not counting DLC .
The reason for that is simple making 5 or 6 different AAA games ( since they cost so much )and 4 of them failing make no sense.
That is why companies are now investing into 1 or 2 new IP and putting everything behind to get better returns .
We were seeing that since last gen which why companies like EA cut down on the number of games they were making .

I'd say game budgets this gen haven't went up all that much. They have went up an order of magnitude since the PS2 ear with little or no growth in the home console market.

The reason you see the money being poured into the top games is because it has become so expensive to make a AAA game. That plus most of the sales have become more and more concentrated at the top and everyone is trying to be there.

After that, we missed all numbers, but...

WEEK 48 (Black Friday):

10 (11) XBO HALO 5: GUARDIANS (MICROSOFT)
14 (08) XBO RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER (SQUARE ENIX EUROPE)

Halo is < 39,000
Tomb Raider, all considering, is not much under Halo... could be >30k as well.


WEEK 49:
18 (14) XBO RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER (SQUARE ENIX EUROPE)
34 (NE) WIU XENOBLADE CHRONICLES X (NINTENDO)

XenoBlade is around 10k, and Tomb Raider is like 16 place above that.
Could be easy >20k.

Then, the others weeks:

WEEK 50: #23
WEEK 51: #19
WEEK 52: #23

Now, if we say that in those weeks Tomb Raider sold like 20-30k, should be what? almost 200k?
If is almost 200k in UK, could be 120k in France, since France first week was over 60% UK first week ( 26k FW in France VS 42k UK), and we have +300k France+UK alone.
And those are only retail, with two market of Europe.

I don't see why is so hard 1 million WW retail + digital.

They are omitting some of the actual top 10 in NPD this year because they weren't 2015 titles.

Halo 5 is in either the number 11, 12 or 13 spot, then once you remove the three games that didn't come out last year it gets bumped up to the "top ten".

But it does mean that potentially Halo 5, tomb raider and #idarb were 11,12,13th in the NPD chart

Companies dance around with words as much as they can when it comes to law-binding documents and terms of service and what not.
