Resident Evil 0 HD |OT| I'm Rebecca! Let's do our best!

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
This game is hard to plat, yeah?

Also, this game just reminded me how terrible no chests are in classic RE games. If they added in chests, it will make the game much better.

I get the feeling of CV after this. I just replayed 3 not too long ago. I've been somewhat pacing myself with this. I got to the
Church
. It's a great game if you just simply want more classic RE. It doesn't go outright chaotic like RE6 did at times.

It's just not the standard for which it's built to be like.

Ok guys. Played this game back when it came out on the Cube and did Normal and Leach mode never touched it again. I said ok I'll start Hard mode this time around because I'm a expert in the RE games many years later...Now I find myself struggling the whole game and this is what I look like now at the end.

B7QvG3X.jpg

It's over for me isn't it GAF? I tried fighting the boss twice but he just eats all my ammo and with one healing Item left I feel so hopeless. Should I give up and start over and save hard mode for last?

Beat REmake with Jill. Started a little in with Chris, but said meh fuck it, and hopped into RE0.

REALLY liking RE0 so far. Just got done with the train.

Am I losing a lot of story if I save Chris after I beat RE0?

I did but it just ends up killing him/her :(

I was in a similar situation. Put Rebecca up on the staired area and make her stay there.

Then just attack it before it gets to her. It can only hurt her with its acid and if you need to move her you can use use your second stick anyway.

That's pretty close to my situation going into the final boss and managed to beat it. However, I did have 4 bullets left on the magnum
(you pick up 8 before the boss too)
and a mixed herb (I tossed the normal handgun).

Thanks for the info I'll try this and see how it works. If not I'll suck it up and play normal and save the hard trophy for last.

Seriously though the important thing to remember is the final phase with the valve turning you can easily get by with 50 Handgun bullets. That's how I did it. Don't over shoot, just shoot until she backs up and comes after you instead of Rebecca

I did something similar but I had much more ammo, but didn't get a chance to use all of it.

Something to also mention is after the first phase of the boss, there's a save point and an ammo supply, including two first aid sprays, a green and red herb, ammo for the grenade launcher, shotgun, magnum, and pistol as well.

Ugh the bat boss is the worst. My grenade shots seem to bounce off the smaller bats in front of it, and I end up avoiding damaging the boss even when it's seemingly right in front of me.

I've done everything I want to do with this game for now and have had a great time replaying it. I don't like Leech hunter but I've done everything else and just wish I had something else worth playing until SFV.

Well I took all your advice and watched a youtube video on cheating the final boss sorta with shooting him on the stairs. It took a few tries but I got it! Hard mode is done now it's all fun and games from here! Thanks GAF!

After the 1st form is down you pretty much beat it. There is a save point and enough stuff to beat phase 2 and 3. 3 can be done with small bursts of handgun only. Waste all heavy on 2.

Well, redid Hard mode and Leech Hunter after my Wesker Mode save file killed my original save. Having played the game so much meant that I was able to S rank Hard with no problem, and Leech Hunter is now a breeze.

Could I have a link to that video? Wouldn't mind taking that advantage myself!

So I haven't touched this game since it froze on me. VERY worried about playing with long stretches of no saving.

Basically early on in the train first seperation from Billy. Rebbecca all by her lonesome fights the scorpion, Scorpion kicks Rebbeca and the game freezes.

Reaaaally hesitant to play again, especially since this is no remake and there is a lot of busywork dumping her inventory in a convenient place.

Plotwise I've always had a problem with how it connects to RE1. So the helicopter crash lands, they get...on a train that goes far away, then they end up in a training facility, escape, and...then escape into a mansion? Isn't the scale totally off here?

The scale isn't off because the game uses quick cuts and time skips to maneuver around its geography.

That's after they take a detour through an umbrella facility in downtown Raccoon....somehow...

The laboratory is basically an easter egg. Canonically, the chapel connects directly to the treatment plant. The laboratory is an extra area placed solely as a prick tease for fans.

And also Bravo team "disappears" in RE, yet in Zero
there's a huge explosion when the facility self-destructs, which somehow goes unnoticed by the Alpha team or anyone in Raccoon city.
You really have to strain to suspend disbelief, but I'm not really looking for a cohesive story out of RE at this point so it doesn't bother me.

The training school is eight miles north of the city. Also, it was an abandoned building owned by Umbrella. The only story they need is that they decided to demolish it to build a new one. Problem solved if anyone noticed. They had a bigger problem when the mansion exploded because it led to a forest fire and they couldn't pass it off as mere demolition.

One thing to keep in mind is the original RE0 was slated for N64 and cancled. Doing this game was a quick cash in on the heels of REmakes success and the knowledge of a cancled game.

It was never cancelled, its development was simply moved to a new console. The remake actually came long after, 0 just happened to be finished afterward because they decided to use what they learned from the remake, essentially the same situation with the remasters.

It's a result of having different writers who don't care about continuity, they want to tell their own RE story (like Bendis with Marvel comics). If Mikami had done Zero it probably would have been a true prequel and had more focus on Bravo Team as a whole. And we would have gotten to explore the forest probably.

Think of Zero as a alternate side-story like Umbrella Chronicles. Capcom could always pull a Kojima and retcon it if they wanted to.

The "different writers" stuff is overblown. FLAGSHIP wrote and oversaw the series specifically to maintain continuity, and it's still one of the best universes in the industry for that. The problem with 0 stems from its console changeover, which led Noboru Sugimura to forget what he'd written in the years between, leading to some minor inconsistencies that don't affect anything. You can think of 0 as an alternate story if you prefer having a head-canon. CAPCOM are never going to retcon it, it's a firm and established part of the series universe. They could, but they won't, and there is absolutely no reason to do so.

Mikami had very little to do with the story in the series so insinuating his mere presence would affect the quality is laughable. There was never going to be a focus on Bravo Team as a whole because there was nothing to do with them. People already complain about Rebecca's perfectly logical character progression and claim that getting cornered by a Hunter with no ammo means she suddenly became weak, can you imagine playing as Forest Speyer being badass only to be killed by a flock of crows anyway? Or Kenneth with his first and last Zombie encounter. People want the genuine article of the very thing they complain about and ignore that 0 did the only possible and logical thing it could've done given the constraints of its sequel.

Umbrella Chronicles isn't an alternate side-story either. It's a series of abridged "historic retellings" for new players and then new scenarios that supplement the original stories for both old and new players.

I can't seem to get the computer room puzzle working. It says enter 0A, so I line both characters up according to the microfilm image and hit one button after the other. Nothing happens :/

I checked I'm looking at the orientation of the image the right way and I am.

Edit: lol ignore me I was orientated wrong.

Something that always bothered me about this game was the *Late game spoilers*
Birkin's lab cameo. Is it supposed to be under construction at this point? cause Zero is like 3 - 4 months before RE2 right? Seems awfully quick to get that facility finished, staffed, and destroyed by the G-Virus. And assuming it is staffed, why is Enrico just walking around like he owns the place and the Proto Tyrant just rampaging unchecked?

It's an easter egg and has no bearing on the story, basically. Rebecca and Enrico were never there.

Well then that makes alot more sense lol

But Wesker and Birkin's FMV's still take place there, and Birkin had to get from there to the Facility to blow it up. Guess he could have driven there I dunno.

Well it is Birkin's laboratory, naturally those scenes took place there.

In that sense I always assumed that's why the train car wasn't on the turntable.

Pretty much. Outbreak shows that it's used for transport to other areas. We just never see where it leads.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THIS

img-14.jpg

It's not there before he leaves :p

Doesn't really make a difference. Wesker and Birkin are the only ones in the narrative to actually set foot in that laboratory. UC's "Beginnings" scenario complicates it as Wesker takes a hilariously extended route from the laboratory -> treatment plant -> chapel -> training school -> Raccoon City but the truth is that this was padding to justify a gameplay segment when really he just would've had go through the sewers and wind up directly in the R.P.D.. Instead he probably took the train line from the turntable to wind up at where he encounters Sergei, but even that's pretty stupid.

An alternative theory is that the lab seen in 0 and UC is simply not the same one seen in 2 and OB and may not even be of the same scale but is connected to the other facilities via the train line. Technically speaking, every location in the game sans the train is part of the training center. When Birkin says he's going to activate the self destruct in the basement, he's actually referring to the basement in the area he's standing. The design of the BIO2 laboratory is already based on the design of the company's secret France branch, so it's possible that it's a design Umbrella reuse for a lot of their facilities.

Ah ok, what a surprise! I just knew it wouldn't be.

I don't know why they didn't create 4k renders for the sake of future-proofing the game (not even future-proofing since people have 4k monitors now) and allowing better scaling for 1080p. I guess they prioritized the consoles and targeted full 1080p for the cropped widescreen visuals (with the extra 300 pixels off-screen for camera pans). If you play in 4:3 and 1080p, it should be downscaling from 1300p.

Maybe they did, and are just waiting for the next anniversary to sell it to us again. I'm hoping that at some point in the future they'll be able to have the pre-redendered backgrounds rendered in real time with some fancy lighting added. Surely the PS1 games could be done that way on current hardware.

Ha yah. I guess its best to pretend the factory portion didn't happen (but it looks so cool!) Makes sense the dam would be by the facility since its on a lake too.

And now you just reminded me what a dumb addition Sergei was to the series lol

Wait, what about Umbrella Chronicles's "Beginnings"? Doesn't that imply that the location Wesker (and Birkin) are at is the training facility?

EDIT: Nevermind, addressed.

This is the only classic Resi I've never played and have decided to start on hard mode. I've never played another Resi on hard but have managed to beat them all will minimal issues on normal. I even managed to beat CVX which a lot of people say is one of the hardest. Damn that plane tyrant!

Is there anything I should know going in? I've heard zero is harder than CVX but will I be okay if I keep two seperate saves to prevent me being permenantly screwed? I've just beat the scorpion on the train and I'm totally paranoid about using ammo/herbs because there's apparantly so little of them in the game. I've already used two green ones so far?

Save the shotgun for hunters and eliminators, save the grenades and magnum for bosses and you should be okay for ammo. I find there's quite a high red to green herb ratio, so you might want to save the greens until you find a red, but there are plenty of first aid sprays spread out roughly as you need them. There are plenty of ink ribbons too, so you should keep a couple of saves if that makes you more comfortable.

Yeah it was a completely last minute addition and was suggested by a writer who admitted he'd forgotten a lot about the scenario he wrote four years before. I think there was an element of wanting to extend the game too, as well as wanting fan service. It breaks the story's logic because it wasn't actually written with the story.

So I'm nearing the end of my hard run. Just hit the final boss and my god I'm struggling. I've nearly done it a few times but I just don't have enough health. Ammo isn't so bad as I've got 8 magnum, 7 grenades, 13 shotgun and 13 pistol.

I'm having no troubling keeps its interest once I've ran out of ammo but random acids hits end up catching me out and killing me. This time I had 3 valves turned before I died D:

I've done the final boss with both characters going into it on danger, so it's definitely doable where any hit can kill you. Just remember the order that Rebecca runs in, and make use of the stairs. Sometimes running around is your best option.

I've been getting Rebecca to drop all her items the second the fight starts so I can pick them up as I need them. And using the stairs to lure it around the area. It's just her stupid A.I getting in the way of danger and getting hurt. I only have 1 first aid spray between us both.

I always try to finish the first section of the fight as quickly as possible, then when the second part start I run straight ahead towards the stairs, and unload into it to get its attention. Then when Rebecca starts to head to that direction I lure the queen back to where the second fight starts. If you get lucky Rebecca won't take any damage, and you can keep the FAS on Billy for when he reaches danger.

DONE IT! Burned all my ammo on the first run apart from 7 shotgun shells, 3 pistol, 1 grenade. Luckily that was enough to lure it around. I ran out of ammo on the last valve but I kept getting in its way and it turned green just as it was about to lunge at us both. Thanks for the tips.

5 hours 30 minutes at a B-rank. I just need to S-rank on normal, collect all weapons and files and do a Wesker run and I'm done.

Well its already a harder than regular classic resi, so playing on hard will be that much more of a challenge. Mainly having no item chest is the biggest change, takes a bit of getting used to.

I think it's a little bit like Dark Souls 2 in that regard, sacrificing cohesion and fudging it here and there, being mostly concerned with evoking/hitting similar notes to the original game.

I was going for the no save achievement (also no healing items used), and I was about 20 minutes from the end when one of those damn frogs jump out and ate me. Here Rebecca is, being slowly dragged into its mouth, and Billy standing there not doing a damn thing and holding the magnum revolver. Thanks Billy.

I've since gotten the achievement, but damn. Billy is not a bro anymore.
